What's worse: JT situation in 2008 or Ricky situation in 2003?

Honestly, I have a worse opinion of JT than I had of Ricky, at least initially..

When the news first broke about Ricky I was shocked.. Completely flumoxed. But I was never upset at him, because I knew of his disorder, and really, all of his issues then and throughout the whole ordeal was caused by that.. Yes, Ricky made some comments sometime thereafter that upset me, but I eventually forgave and just came to accept Ricky for what he is.. In my opinion, he is still a decent guy, who had to "find" himself.. I don't view Marijuana is a vile drug that some do, and I do believe that it is probably a better substance to treat anxiety than most prescribed medications..

However, with this JT situation, he is just coming off completely arrogant and egocentric. The comment about "In 10 years I hope I am remembered for my acting" was the the thing that finally shifted my opinion.. It really demonstrates that he was always in this just for himself. There is no overriding medical/psychological issue here.. He is shirking his responsibilities to the team simply to feed his own ego.

There is a better chance of Hillary Clinton giving up her campaign tommorow than JT becoming a prolific actor.. If he gets more than 2 supporting roles in some cheesy summer action flicks I would be utterly amazed.

JT is not an actor. I see nothing in him that would translate to A-List actor.. He actually has quite a bland personality, a bad and emotionless tone of voice, and a bodytype that will typecast him from the get-go. He is not Dwyane Johnson. He does not have a 10th of the charisma as the Rock nor does he have any of the self-mocking attitude that makes the Rock a success.. Dwayne doesnt take himself too seriously.. JT obviously does..

Now, I just hope they cut him because I am sick of hearing about this soap opera.. Let JT go make a mockery of himself on General Hospital and wish that he had left in good graces as he returns one day to a chorus of boos during his induction into the Dolphins ring of honor..

You have to be kidding. A guy can't stop smoking weed and quits on the team right before camp isn't as bad as a 12 year vet requesting a trade? Garbage.

If you put it in such simplistic terms it wouldnt appear to be, but if you actually analyze both situations more deeply, you will come to see that the JT situation is worse..

JT is like Chad Johnson/Terrel Owens.. Ricky was like Barry Sanders..

Ricky was like Barry? Barry quit on his team because he failed drug tests? Seriously you're rewriting history to vent on JT. The JT situation is happening right now so its more emotional for you right now, its not even in the same realm as what Ricky did. Honestly this it just nonsense.

Why do you completely discount his mental condition? He wasnt just some stoner as much as you want to make it sound that way..

Basically, he was like Barry in the sense that he was being used as a battering ram for absolutely nothing.. There really wasnt a situation that compared directly to Ricky's, however, JT is absolutely like CJ and TO.. Only a little less loud, but just as obnoxious..

I see where you are coming from. And lets remember, Ricky was going to be suspended for a failed drug test which is why he retired. Technically he quit, retired, whatever... but he wasnt suiting up in '04 regardless. Ive always felt his criticism has been harsh.

As for JT, the guy perplexes me. I wish he would have made his intentions clear last season when he took this gig. If acting was in his plans all along thats fine. Dont say you're wife and agent talked you into it and then take such a hard stance on show-biz after the fact.

If infact he's pulling this because of the way Parcells has treated him it makes me even more upset. Yes I'll be the first to admit Tuna and Co. have acted a little childish in giving him the silent treatment, but JT needs to act like the veteran he is and understand where they are coming from.

This whole situation has spun out of control. Both parties are in the wrong IMO. Its become a soap-opera and the sooner its behind this team the better!

Hope I don't get blasted on this one since I'm a Jets fan but here's my take:

2003 Ricky was a bigger blow.

Why? Well in 2002 your running game was dominant with him and with Ricky you actually could beat the Jets! :wink2: Seriously though, Miami was a contending team back then ready to build on the shoulders of Williams and a defense that was led by Taylor, Zach Thomas, Patrick SUR-TAN or whatever, Sam Madison, etc. The Quarterback situation wasn't ideal, but any shmuck knows you can win in the NFL with a game manager at helm if you have a solid rushing attack and defense.

Losing Taylor now, when you're in a 2-3 year rebuilding mode and the fact that he's 34 years old, I just don't really see how it hurts except in the short term 2008 season future.

If you're looking at it strictly from the x's and o's aspect and the team standing then no question Ricky was a bigger loss. I think the poster was looking at in different terms. As in, who is more to blame. Which looks worse? If you will.

I do agree that LOSING Ricky was a bigger blow because he was a much bigger part of that team's success, however, I am speaking more about the reasons each had for doing what they did.. not their impact on the team.

IMO, JT is just being an arrogant, pigheaded fool.. I also do agree that Parcells mishandled this situation, but to hear some of the crap I hear coming out of JT's mouth, it does make me understand Tuna's stance a bit more..

A team in this situation needs veteran leadership.. And when your most visible and "respected" leader is out there traipsing about on some third-rate reality show instead of sweating in the lockerroom with the rest of the team laying the groundwork for the season, it just shows where his priorities are and it is a very bad precedent to set if you are Tuna in regards to the rest of the team if you were to coddle twinkletoes Taylor now.,..

Ah, my bad. I misunderstood. That'll teach me to read the entire post.

Well if you put it that way, I think Ricky's situation still looks worse. The Dolphins were contenders, not so much now, and Ricky had no excuse to just simply walk away from the game to go "find himself" by going to smoke pot all over the world and hang out with the Dolly Lama or whomever he was hanging out with.

Taylor, who I never have liked (big surprise coming from a Jets fan, huh?), is being his normal crybaby self about a situation and is going to sit out and whine until he's traded. He's going to threaten to retire? Okay? Isn't that what you want to do anyway Jason? Retire and become some big movie star?

I won't see one movie he's ever in, thats for sure.

Also guys, I know how its to have Parcells take over. Sure he was the HC here, but he also played the role of a GM type for a year after he left and led the "Big Four" draft of Pennington, Ellis, J.Abraham and ... yeah Anthony Becht .. haha. Trust him. He will turn the Dolphins around with his guys.

I would compare JT to Strahan, not to TO/Ocho. Strahan has been up this road and back.

Ricky situation was MUCH worse IMO, no question about it.

We were, at that point, still a contending team. Then all of a sudden arguably our best player, the entire focus of the offense, just up and leaves days before training camp with the team having no other options (Travis Minor?) to replace even a quarter of his production. And the team subsequently collapsed.

Sure this JT thing isnt pretty, but hes already nearing the end of his career one way or the other. Bringing in guys like Starks in FA and Merling/Langford in the draft gives us a chance to replace him, we have plenty of time to plan on this, we might get some kind of trade value, and we arent in a position where losing him will be the difference between making a run and having a failed season.

Strahan just wanted more money because of his divorce, & he always tries to skip training camp because of his age.

JT wants to play for another team, for a 'contender'...

In all liklihood he is probably willing to play for LESS MONEY IN ANOTHER UNIFORM, that's basically the complete opposite of Michael's situation...

    Well, not really.

Strahan's thing was more money after his divorce from his wife. She got half of whatever he made over his NFL career and I'm sure money was well spent, as it is by most athletes. He wasn't in debt or anything, but I'm sure he just wants to make up those millions so he can live comfortably after football. Michael, supposedly, has been pretty decent with his money. He never did ask for a trade and still isn't.

JT is a _______. I hate it when these premadonna players ignore their contracts. We wouldn't take it from rookie why should we take it from a vet. Jt is supposed to be a leader on this team. Don't kid yourselves Joey Porter and other vets even though they say they support JT, they are just covering their buts incase they want to pull the same grabage. Privatly by the end of camp they will all be fumming when they are busting their butts on two a days and going through the grind of training camp. So much for all the Jake long needs to learn the ropes from JT talk, and such cause whoops, JT not comming to training camp. I say don't do squat for JT. As for being worse this has been comming the Ricky was more of a blow but the JT thing is more selfish. I can forgive a guy for screwing up. It's harder to forgive a guy acting like a selfish blowhard.

Ricky was way worse for MY feelings and mental anguish, though in retrospect I understand it better. JT is being an ***, but we're rebuilding and I can understand where he's coming from. And he didn't wait until days before the season started. He is likely just asking for a trade, OK demanding a trade, nothing that hasn't been done before, and for understandable reasons. I really don't care about JT anymore, trade his "pretty" butt ASAP and get anything we can for him, no matter what it is, take it and run. Lets move on now, with the guys who WANT to be Dolphins. And JT just lost his place on the ring of honor in Dolphins stadium IMHO, no way he goes up there now.

Ricky will always be cool in my book. (Just look at my sign-on name).

After JT tried to rip that recovered fumble from his teammates hands a couple of years ago, I never quite felt the same about that guy. He's actually done that more than once too..

I love RIcky Williams, I love him to death. And think he is one of the most compelling guys in pro sports, my dolphins fandom was pushed to the next level when Ricky Williams became a dolphin. He is and will be for a while, one of those guys I will defend to death.

BUT... his retirement and the situations around that retirement where faaaaaaaaaaaar worse than JT's holdout. JT's holdout does not hurt a 1-15 team that is rebuilding. Ricky's retirement destroyed a 10-6 team that maybe was not very good, but that ultimately was made worse by a series of panic trades done by Spielman.

If you add to that that Ricky retired a day before TC, while JT is announcing this with a lot of time, and this is preceded by an offseason in which JT has been dangled in trade talks by the FO. In other words, the team has had time to prepare for this, the writing was pretty much on the wall. Ricky came out of nowhere.

Both are very selfish moves, but while one was a totally panic move (ricky's) in which the guy acted without really thinking about all the ramifications of what he is doing. The JT one is calculated, he knows he doesn't hurt the team, he was dangled in trade talks, team does not count on him, there is no communication between him and the HC or team president. In other words the guy has been out of the team for a while now.

The reason that you feel JT is worse, is because JT's just happened, if at this very moment both had happened. Then we would all forget about JT and would focus on the Ricky betrayal.

Ricky by far. Anybody who says the Jason situation is worse is kidding themselves. Ricky was our team back then. And he quit on us at the worst possible time with no warning. JT telegraphed this maneuver with his statements and actions.
