Bit mixed. Very excited to see the Dolphins. But, certainly don't want too much of a soap opera; nor to hear someone like Dansby declare the Dolphins SB champs; nor to give away info about the team. But, overall, it should be a lot of fun for Dolphin fans.

And, ultimately, it's just entertainment so we might as well be entertained.

Great News......... Love the new mindset ! Everyone who's skeptical, I totally understand.... but just know that as time goes on you will see more and more of this.... with teams getting their own networks and such.

Seriously. I'm sure some might make strong arguments about this being a distraction. But how could anyone not watch or enjoy a TV show dedicated entirely to following our favorite football team this season? A lot of rookies and new faces on this team that we know little about. This is going to be great, IMHO.

Plus for those saying this will be a distraction, my argument to that would be if coach Philbin and the rookies can't handle this "distraction" then they were never going to make it in this league anyway, so we might as well just relax and enjoy the show.

The weird thing is that Joe Philbin said before that he's not interested in Hard Knocks, back in March. Now he's changed his mind but he claims Steve Ross wasn't involved in the decision making and actually tried to talk him out of it.

That just means they don't think the Dolphins seem all that interesting from the outside. Hardly a diss.

Not every team can have a guy with 50 kids, all 3 years old, with 20 wives in 10 different states.

I think it would be very naive to believe that this wasn't Ross' decision. Have there been any coaches that have wanted to do this?

im torn on this i mean i love how the dolphins will be watched by people and will get our team exposure but at the same time this could be a distraction the team doesnt need

    This is a great thing.

For years, I have felt that this franchise acted in an arrogant manner towards it's fans and it's brand.

With this, they are not only saying that they exist, but are willing to market their product and show that they are proud of it.

    This is afterall, entertainment.

This is the way BACK. If Tannehill pans out, this might be the most important offseason in Team History.

I don't think that is really the big risk, or turn-off here. What I see as the two biggest problems:

    1. Players try to act up for the cameras, and in the process lose a little of their focus. Does Vontae Davis turn to a camera and say something in between reps? Its not a major distraction, but we all know how the game can come down to the smallest things.

    2. HBO manufacturing something that isn't really there, and it eventually gains legs and becomes a distraction. HBO literally has thousands of hours of footage that they pare down to 60 minutes. Its common practice for reality TV producers to essentially make something out of nothing.

I think those are the negatives. There are positives as well. This probably helps them sell more tickets, which does help the team. I wouldn't want them to do it, but I'm not upset about it either.

This is solid PR. Its good for the team's image that took a hit by reactionary fans this offseason. Its funny that some of these reactionary fans that complained about Ross & Ireland and what they've done to the public image of the team are now either against or "cautiously happy" about trying to right the perceived wrongs by going on HK.

Right. He stated he wanted to do this, after they decided they are going to do this. Did he say this because he is a team player, or did he say it because he genuinely meant it?

Distractions? The Dolphins haven't won a playoff game in 12 years. Perhaps a 'distraction' is exactly what this team needs. Something definitely needs to shake them up.

I am behind this, 100%. Brilliant decision, IMO. I can't wait.

Again, he said this after the decision was made.

You realize that is not very difficult for Philbin to make up anything he wants and tell it to reporters?

What lead to his change of heart from March until now?

Didn't they fire the entire coaching staff essentially? I would hope that would be the shakeup the needed. I don't see how being on reality TV is much of a shakeup. JMO.

Idk would you believe him if he told you or was your mind already made up?

    Guessing the latter.

I'd guess he's a little more confident in how his team looks now as opposed to before the draft.

hopefully there were some stipulations before the agreement, like telling the truth about certain players (Flynn), coaches and rumors, and we don't just let them run with BS storylines..

I don't mind this at this time, I think it will give us an advantage on determining whether or not Philbin will be our long term solution.

I believe Joe Philbin as much as I would believe a political spokesman. That pretty much goes for anyone in the NFL.

If you are Harvey Greene, you're advising the team to say that Ross didn't want it, but the "football people" did. It plays best with the fans, and avoids people believing that Ross is sacrificing anything on the field in order for publicity.

    Back in Miami
    Good move for the Dolphins.

The perception.... and truth of the Dolphins franchise being in dissaray over the past decade is real and it has hurt the franchise.
This will get them back in the spotlight and hopefully show a behind the scenes look at the positive direction they are moving in now. Hopefully someone dosen't do something stupid to screw it up.

For those that think a camera crew will really cause a huge distraction......
Camera crews are a part of the game in every aspect. From NFL film crews, to ESPN to local news camera crews that are at camp daily anyway it's just part of the experience. This show won't cause a bit of distraction IMO.

So we'll just assume that any good decision a coach makes is really the GM's and vice versa. Sounds good.

Absolutely that is a possibility. But the (mostly circumstantial) evidence suggests thats not the case. We can all see the obvious benefits from this. But how exactly are those benefits something that would motivate Philbin? When Joe Philbin wakes up in the morning, he's hopefully worried about how to get his team prepared, and how to win games during the season. I seriously doubt that he wakes up and says "how can I get fans more connected to the team?". There are other guys in the organization that should be focusing on that, and those are the people IMO that made this decision.

No, we should assume the decisions re: coaching are made by the coach. The decisions regarding whatever falls under Ireland's purview are Ireland's, etc.

If Harvey Greene came out and said it was his choice to trade Brandon Marshall, would anyone believe that???

I find it hard to believe that anyone really thinks that Ross would just go and make a decision that either his 1st year coach or GM was absolutely against.

.....or he understands this can improve the team's rep, which according to a lot of people has cost us revenue and free agents.

All I've seen this offseason is a united front from the Owner, GM, FO and Coaching staff. They've all been very public and open. You talk about circumstantial evidence well:

There's been a whole lot of firsts this off season:
    - WCO
    - The media tour
    - committment to openness with the media
    - GM hiring a coach
    - drafting a QB at 8 (first in awhile to draft a QB in first rd)
    - owner answering a fan's questions directly

Now, with all of that, what fits better...everyone being on board for Hard Knocks or the coach being forced? Honestly?
