Reggie Bush wants to lead league in rushing

“I want the rushing title,” said Bush, via Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. “This offseason I’ve been working towards that goal. Just being effective like I was this past season. Every time I rush the ball I want four yards. I’m keeping my focus simple and small, but at same time helping my team progress.”

If he's more valuable the way the team envisions him, then he shouldn't try to aspire for the rushing title.

And bess wants to lead the league in receiving and Tannehill want to lead the league in passing.

It should be interesting to see how these coaches adapt to their strengths, it's what good coaching is all about..spacing then targeting your most talented players..

Using Reggie Bush in the slot as a receiver won't be so much about maximizing Reggie's stats as about maximizing his impact and helping other players be productive, IMO.

Tell him it might be a better idea to try and be the leader in overall yardage because this team is going to throw to him a lot imo...

Of course it is possible but I don't know if year one, in a new offense, is going to help him.

Philbin seems to prioritize exploiting mismatches, whenever and wherever he finds them, individual milestones be damned.

Who cares if he actually does it? It should be the goal of every player to be the absolute best.

If that's his goal and he's training as such, we should have an excellent player in 2012.

Lamar Miller comes to us with the reputation of being explosive yet smallish and injury-prone. Much like Bush last year. Reggie can serve as a model from a training and preparation standpoint. Last season he visibly put the time in and was a team leader.

As for the rushing title, I'd honestly rather he not get it simply because I'd rather he not carry it 300+ times. My hope is there is enough viable talent behind him so he's likely to be worn down come the stretch run.

Someone should remind Reggie that rushing yardage doesn't correlate very highly with winning. But if he can lead the league in rushing and receiving yards by a back in the same year then do it to it Reggie.

By this logic should he intentionally not gain yards when he is handed the ball?

I never buy into this idea. There could be other flaws causing teams to lose, just because teams with high rushing totals don't always win doesn't mean the offensive model is wrong. Yards are yards, perhaps these teams have other contributing factors.

So let me get this straight. We have fans negatively analyzing a comment made by the one player on last years team that completely exceeded all expectations because he is striving for more.

    Good stuff.

I won't say it's impossible for a team that has the rushing leader to win the superbowl. But I think the team with the rushing leader usually has the rushing leader because they weren't very good at passing the ball. Who was the rushing leader last year? MJD. Jags had arguably the worst QB situation in the league.

Let me be perfectly clear: Reggie Bush is my current favorite Miami Dolphin player, lest any of the defenders of the all things Dolphin Universe try and paint me as some negative Nancy. I have no problem with what he said. I'll cheer for Reggie Bush to score a TD every ****ing time he touches the ball whether it's on the ground or through the air. I just hope if he hits his goal it's because he was just that damn good and not because we were so ****ing terrible passing the ball that we had the hand him the ball 60 times a game.

I'd much rather they focus on using Bush as a rusher than a receiver, because I don't think he's all that good.

He's got all of one good season- his rookie season, where the Saints threw him the ball more than any player on the roster. He wasn't particularly explosive(5 20+ yard gains in 88 receptions), and the whole endeavor strikes me more as them trying to justify their investment more than anything considering after that his role shrank. His yards per catch have been pretty mediocre his entire career, too.

I'd love for it to be a situation like his rushing where something "clicks", but he's certainly not performed like one of the truly gifted receiving backs in the NFL.

He will be explosive in either role. I can see him being our biggest focal point of the offense, and I hope to god we resign him.

I agree with this. I'll say I'd much rather him lead in yards per carry than rushing yards total.

I vote for both. Foster won the rushing title in 2010, and they had over 4,000 yards passing. If it wasn't for their horrible defense, they would be tough. In fact they were tough last season when they had a great defense.

I think its a case of leading by example, if he is going to be a team leader then he should lead by example. If everyone had his work ethic and attitude it would be a much better team in my opinion. You can still have a goal even if you don't attain it and I admire his ambition.

Backs are not utilized as pure rushers in Philbins system, Bush will be a great addition to the passing game, but as far as rushing goes, I dont know.

.......... if he said that last offseason we'd all be laughing. Now it's like........ " Ok Reggie, go get em "
It's still not going to happen, but you gotta love the attitude. He really exploded last year. I dont see how you can spread the carries around so much when reggie plays like that. The guy was a complete steal, and if he has another year like last year, he's going to command big bucks in Free Agency. It would be hard not to pay him too, especially considering NE & NYJ would be all over it.

I'm curious if Bush will have a sort of Marshall Faulk role this year?

Now that I think about it, they create that role for a running back, then add Miller as a double down to make sure they have someone who can fill it. Slaton could conceivably fill it, Dtrain has solid hands, but lacks that top end speed. Ck's guy Jonas Grey could fill it conceivably...anyone know if they signed him?

What I like about Reggie is that he's in top condition now and will continue to do that as his career transpires, this dude, with his natural talent, and his understanding of the body, the game is still ascending, it's still adapting, and from the look of his game last year, I saw a player adapt his talent, and he did it behind a piss poor line...Reggie Bush is getting better..I start looking at him as a leader and long term investment if he stays healthy this year..
