When he does something right I will let you know. He's been awful with his in game managing since the first game of the season. Between his random line up switches, his bullpen management, his in game management and his clubhouse management he's been bad. I'm just happy he's only signed for 1 more year.
While I agree it is a non-story, I will say............come on mannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn..... Like you cant sit there in the mirror Josh Beckett and say "Yeah this a smart move that shouldnt be a problem".... It is more along the lines of........should have known better....
Apparently you can't do anything in Boston without it being reported. What's next Clay Buchholz spotted at the dry cleaners? Cody Ross picking his nose at a Best Buy?
You gotta love the timing of it as well....he missed his start "rehabbed" what 5, 6 days ago? The media sat on this story al the wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy until today, when he pitches.... Now all we need is for Beckett to spin a 2.2IP/6ER gem tonight, and Fenway will implode.... Must watch TV tonight, but knowing Beckett he will throw 8 scoreless and swear at the crowd as he leaves the mound in the 9th with 1 out.... He is freaky like that...
I heard WEEI interviewed the kid that spotted Beckett on the golf course yesterday. You can't make that crap up. Why would any player want to come to Boston to play in a town like that (besides money of course) with the media, with an ownership group that rips players, coaches and managers when they leave town? This franchise really turned into a disaster in a span of less than 60 games, it's scary how quickly things went downhill.
Calm yourself, all is not THAT bad........ And Fink some of those players deserved to get ripped on the way out...
Like who? And even so what's the point? Just let them leave, it's not like the Red Sox wanted to keep any of them anyway. The franchise should always stay classy, even if the player attacks them. Just ignore it or give the simply vanilla "it's too bad things didn't work out the way we hoped with Player X, we wish him the best".
Why do you hold such animosity toward players? You honestly think the Beantown Brass have conducted themselves (or the media pundits drumming up stories) honorably? Now, as a non-Boston fan, I love the slop (Chicken & Beer festivus) the media wants to continue to push and beat them over the head with it...but come on, its a crappy way to make a living.
I dont mean by the team, but the media....the team should be bigger than that, but the media has every right too and should.... Manny I am sorry deserved it.... Nomar as well, in the end he gave up..... a guy like Carl Pavano deserved it as well....some players do deserve it.... so from a fans styandpoint, and the media as well, you guys are saying there shouldn't be any accountability?
Who do you think leaks the stories to the media though? Its coming from inside the organization. How else would the media know Manny was faking an injury or couldn't remember which leg was bothering him or all the crap with Francona? Or the beer and chicken stuff? Of course there should be accountability, there always should be accountability but it's one thing if the stuff happens on the field, it's another if it's stuff off the field and has nothing to do with baseball. If anything there's zero accountability from the media, these guys throw stones in glasshouses daily yet never take responsibility for anything they say is wrong or dumb. They have free reign to rip players (most of the time unfairly) and act like they're holier than everyone else. These are the same guys that reported and ripped Arod for being in Central Park during and off day with his shirt off tanning himself. How or why is that a story? But again it's disheartening that almost every high profiled player that leaves the team gets ripped on the way out of town and it appears that this stuff is coming from very inside sources from inside the organization.
Yes I agree to a point, some of that stuff comes from the organization, but it isnt 100% either from the organization....I bet some stuff comes from other players, especially the 1 year guys who aren't loyal to the team, or case in point with Beckett, some random kid who saw him on the golf course....etc.......and if you give up on the field, you can tell...it isn't like that is coming from so and so....
The crowd booed him before the game... Some in the Nation dont think it is a "non story" as Fink portrays it to be....
It IS a "non story" but has been made into a story by the media. Who cares what players do on their off days? Why is it a big deal? If Beckett pitched a gem last night then all would have been forgotten and none of it would have mattered but because he sucked he's being made out to be a monster. If in his next start he pitches well it will be forgotten. If he doesn't, the media will continue on with it. It's shocking how dumb this thing is. Much like the beer and chicken stuff in the clubhouse are we suppose to think that no player golfs on off days? I mean did he suck because he played golf? I can't believe I'm even wasting my time writing this.
Fink to you maybe, but obviously there are Sox fans that are fet up with Josh Beckett.....regardless if he pitches well his next time out... Dude it is like how I am fet up with Tex, the guy could hit home run in 9 straight games breaking Mattingly's record, and I would still be fet up with the guy.... From the stuff last year, and now this....clearly or else they wouldnt be booing...
I'm sure there are fans out there that are sick of Dustin Pedroia. Hell it was a popular topic last week that people wanted to get rid of Adrian Gonzalez because he went 0-18 during a 3 game series. Fans are unreasonable most of the time. Yankee fans have booed Jeter and Rivera in the past, it's just the nature of being a fan. But it doesn't make it right or make them right. The same fans that boo'ed Beckett last night, will cheer him the next time he pitches well. My issue isn't with the fans, it's with the media turning this "story" into a big deal, when it's just as pointless as beer-n-chicken gate was last year.
I think the red sox are just setting everybody up, 2011 the great collapse and 2012 the great comeback. They are just waiting for the all star break and then they will start playing. LOL
If I thought Beckett cared like Petey or Jeter, this is a total non story, but the fact is things like this make me think Beckett and maybe this team doesn't have the fire for another 07' let alone an 04'. I can assure you the Braves big 3 golfed anytime it was possible, I am not sure about in between missing starts.
People assume Beckett doesn't care. I don't get it. How can you make that assumption? Because he drank beer and ate chicken and played golf during days he wasn't pitching? Again if he pitched well last night would people be saying he doesn't care?
I do think Beckett cares, but after that interview it's clear to see he will still do everything on his terms no matter what, which is fine many players are like this. All pitchers play golf when they aren't pitching, but I am not sure how many miss a start because of injury, that still golf. I am not sure if playing golf in between missing starts is common practice depending on the injury, maybe I am wrong.
According to Beckett and team officials he said he was fine to pitch on Saturday (the day his spot was skipped) but the Sox wanted to be extra careful with him and didn't want to lose Aaron Cook to FA, so they decided to play it safe and let Cook start in his place. I would hope that if he or any other player was truly hurt they would have enough brains not to do something that could further injury themself. I think Beckett probably could have handled the interview better and if he simply said that it wouldn't have been made into a bigger deal. Again all will be forgotten if he just pitches well today....
Soooooooooooooooo want to know why ole Schil couldn't make it to the 100 anny and what he has been up to lately..... Nothing really just deafaulting on a 75M dollar loan for his stupid video game company.... run fatso run....dont look so cocky now do ya?? got to love the reporter who says.... around 1:30 in.... "Mr. Schilling you have talked your whole life, why dont you turn around and be a man right now" I can only hope that one board member had the ole interlocking "N" and "Y" hat on when he walked in....
I think the Red Sox pitching coach should work with his pitching on the whole "balking" thing. It's getting a little extreme now. But hey Buchholz looked good last night for the first time really all year he had his change up working for him. I take that loss as a pretty postive step forward.
Yes sir, that whats happens when you have 6 total Republicans in the entire State's General Assembly.... Thats cool bro, didnt know you were from Burrillville, what bought you down to GA?? Wise move btw...
Didn't the Sox have 3 total last night? 1 from Buchholz and 2 from Morales? A couple of weeks ago Bard had 2 in one game vs. Toronto, the Jays even scored a run on one of those balks. It's just been a strange year already.
Hm. I might have missed one of Morales'. I have a hard time paying full attention with a new born and a gf that dislikes watching baseball on tv.
Oh if Schilling was pitching for your team you loved him. He was a warrior on the mound and if things didn't go right for him he was accountable. One of the best big game pitchers ever too. It will be extremely interesting to see if he makes the HOF. I'm looking forward to seeing how that voting goes.
