It's a good story mainly because he's pretty much going for the gusto. Either way he can say he's tried out for an nfl team. Not a lot of people can say that.
Good story , smart , mature guy with really positive measurables. A long shot but players like that have a way being stashed .
He's got a very uphill battle to make the roster. I think it'll be difficult for him to beat out Jeron Mastrud, much less any of the three ahead of him.
TE has been a weakness on our team for several years now. We need anyone to step up. Could be a surprise.
Yeah I'll wait until I see something of him in preseason before I even consider talking about him. The history isn't good for guys going from accountant to professional football player. Just saying his odds are long and there are guys more worthy of discussion, even among long shots.
that is a good point. Like that Sutton guy, I believe his name was Donald. I might be wrong. Huge guy who played vollyball with awesome measurables. I was wrong, David Sutton.
Yup, he's another one. There was also a corner that was blazing fast that Jeff Ireland kicked the tires on for a few years I believe, forget his name...but definitely right there along those same lines, kind of pulled him off the street. Some guys that come from nowhere like Cam Wake are worth discussion. He actually did things on the football field up in Canada. Anthony Armstrong too. Jerome Messam, for that matter. But I mean, an accountant/basketball player whose biggest football accomplishment to date is having an over dramatic video created of his pro day...I dunno, just me but I'd rather talk about like a Derek Moye or Jonas Gray or Jeff Fuller.
while they are not as good football stories to talk about, they are great personal stories. I think that is why they are popular. People who shouldn't make it and then they do. Plus Antonio Gates helps the story more as well.
If the 3rd and 4th TE's ahead of him on the depth chart are really that good, then Fasano or Clay could also be trade bait. We've traded away the deep threat at WR and the OL could use some more shoring up.
I don't think Clay would be trade bait. Fasano is one of two players would I would not be surprised if they were cut in June.
I would be very surprised if they cut Fasano. Philbin has a very role oriented mindset for that position and Anthony Fasano is the only accomplished blocker to fill a necessary role. He'll get some chances in pass catching as well, especially in the red zone, but I think he's pretty necessary at the moment. I doubt Les Brown makes the roster and guys like Jeron Mastrud are just a waste of space.
I read your response on Brown a few times and you really look at him as a very long shot to make the team. I am guessing the speed of the game and his lack of college experience is the issue? He was an all-state wr, but I realize there is a huge difference in the high school game to pro. I am pulling for him against the longest of shots. He looks like he could be a well-rounded tight end.
Remember Oronde Gadsden of the Arena Football and World Football Leagues. Not suggesting it will be the same result, but strange things happen at tryouts.
The thing that makes Orande Gadsden different is that Oronde was on a NFL roster for two years before going to Arena and World Football Leagues. His trek is more unusual than the average football player, but not exactly strange.

FWIW: Michael Egnew was on Sirius NFL radio yesterday and during his interview he was asked how the tight ends would be used. He specifically mentioned Les Brown and said and I'm paraphrasing a bit but something to the affect of, "He's a really physical guy that looked great out there. They're going to be using him a lot." Not sure if they were just kind words for a guy he's competing with, but sounded genuine enough.
I just think that TE is one of those positions where a great athlete can still come out of nowhere and produce. Incredible athletes at WR are facing other great athletes so most of the time the person with more experience has an advantage. But great athletes at TE are often going against mismatches. And TE is not a position the colleges are developing, so even the experienced guys aren't really all that experienced. So I think there's a better chance for the inexperienced great athlete at that position to come in and produce primarily on the basis of his athleticism. He still has to get "it", but many basketball players have a natural enough feel for positioning that they do.
got a good feeling about this guy & he does make you think of an Oronde Gadsden with speed. don't think he'll have any problem with the playbook, he's certainly not stupid. another acorn? Ireland is doing his job.
the way people are fixating on some of these players you would think that miami just signed the 72 dolphins . I think its good to be optimistic but to anoint some of these draft picks hall of famers is premature. on the flip side i think we could have a winning season if these guys play well I cant see why we cant win 8 or 9 games so we shall see if we have the talent or not.
If you are not going to sign a guy like chaz walker, or several other of the tryout guys, I can't imagine you wouldn't have the same criteria when looking at a guy like Brown. They saw enough to sign him before the draft before they even knew what would be available in the draft.
WTF Did he do P90x or something because his gains to me look incredibly unrealistic for that time frame.
That might be one of the silliest posts I have ever seen. Fasano is a top 10 TE. 1 drop in 2 years. Are you kidding me?
Hopefully. Two and a half months for that type of transformation is kind of....intense to say the least. He didn't just "bulk up" his body looks fake.
these are your keepers @ TE: 80 Fasano, Anthony TE 42 Clay, Charles TE 87 Brown, Les TE 84 Egnew, Michael TE they'll probably carry three on the roster & one on the developmental squad
I don't know if it does , I know how much and fast the transition can be. A good friend was Mr. Natural Canada several times , he was clean as could be and his body was multiple times what Brown's is , and saw how he went from ok to wo in 2 months when it was competition time. I also know what 2 months can do and I never became obsessed , Brown looks like he bought in for it all. Eating , working out and preparing.
