Okay I will also make this perfectly clear, if it isnt a suicide I take back saying what I said about Seau.....absolutely....I eat more crow about the man himself.....if it wasnt a suicide...
Ignorance must be bliss. If you think money can make a suicidal person normal, you are SADLY mistaken. It's also relative. Do you think someone living in Sub Saharan Africa cares about someone on welfare who commits suicide? A person on welfare in the US lives 1000x greater than the poverty that most of the world feels on a daily basis. So to make this about fame or money is pretty stupid, because everyone in the States has the opportunity to do better than most.
Not saying you are wrong. Everyone has their opinion. But I wouldn't be surprised to find out a guy like Seau had 1000 concussions.
Insensitive and ignorant. Mentally ill people don't choose to be crazy or suicidal. And no amount of cash, fame, sex, or wealth can change that fact.
I agree to an extent, but the part you are excluding is that if he had the mental make up to actually arrive at rational conclusions like...not killing yourself. Some mental problems are literally physical ailments and sometimes blaiming someone for a horrible decisions like killing yourself with these ailments is like blaming someone for bleeding if they've been cut.
First of all, you are entitled to your opinion and I won't try and lecture you on how sensitive you should or shouldn't be. But I will say mental illness is a very tough thing to understand. It's very easy for someone who is mentally healthy to think it's crazy that anyone would want to kill themselves, but it's so hard to understand what goes through someone's head who has mental illness that often lead to this. To write it off simply as weakness is a mistake, in my humble opinion.
STill doesn't make what you say correct. My mother committed suicide when I was 10. STill fills me with anger, but I'm still not going to make some blanket, ignorant generalization about people committing suicide. People who actually commit suicide usually have some form of chemical imbalance that combines with some kind of extreme negative incident in their lives that pushes them over the edge. people who are doing it for attention and completely selfish reasons, tend to fit into the "attempted suicide" category.
Ali couldn't HOLD a gun, much less pull the trigger... you gotta admit the thought has probably crossed his mind a few times too...
Not necessarily. I think anyone is capable of being mentally ill if they let their mind go in that direction and embrace it, don't you? If his mind was just destroyed solely from concussions in the NFL, then it's a damn shame. Personally, I think it was more than just that but we'll see.
I'm sure it does. My point was more that Ali just couldn't let it go when he had nothing to win by being in the ring.
Did Junior have a history of concussions? I'm not remembering that to be the case. Of course, there may have been some unreported. Great loss. Very sad.
another ignorant statement. people who are seriously ill didn't get that way because they "allowed" it or "embraced" it. acting crazy and being crazy are 2 different things. One has a foundation of biochemical imbalance, of which no one understands to any significant extent.
If someone doesn't want to live life who are you (or anyone for that matter) to say it is wrong though? I don't mean it as an insult to you at all, but it was his life not yours. Only he can decide the route to take with it.
Or endured sexual/ emotional / physical abuse beyond anything imaginable as kids as they were developing.
Makes me worried about anyone who has played the sport. I fear that these issues are going to become worse and more common. Possibly to the point where the future of the sport is in jeopardy.
Let this thing play out before anyone comes to conclusions. Sure is a wierd way to take yourself out.
I think that's a blanket statement. Case in point, do you think Brandon Marshall's personality disorder is solely responsible for going to clubs and hitting women? I don't.
I get that D but if that's the case than Seau doesn't know right from wrong? And went completely insane and was a person incapable of deciphering between the 2? I don't think Seau fell that far that quick....it was like Muck(I think) said, he probably only felt at home in the locker room...
Yeah unless you have proof things like depression aren't physiologically related, you might want to show a little empathy.
If understanding why something happened is the sensitivity bandwagon, I'll gladly hop on the bandwagon. And as a general societal rule, it is in poor taste to speak ill of the dead(especially within hours) Agreed. There were issues there obviously. Everyone has resources though. All it takes to make someone pause is a concerned friend recognizing the signs and sitting down and talking to that person. That can be a HUGE help in itself. And that is your right to feel that way. I think it is a little too hooah for me. We will just agree to disagree. There are thousands that take the same path as Seau. There are thousands who are forced to get help due to diligent friends. It cuts both ways. And he probably was....
The please kindly STFU and exit the thread. You don't know why he took his own life, hell none of us even now if he actually did take his life at this point in time. Point being, there's no reason for you to come into this thread and start judging the man. All this post and the rest of your posts I've seen in this thread are going to serve to do is stir up a bunch of ****. Does it make you feel better about yourself that you get to look down your nose at someone because they killed themselves?
Again, I think you're coming at this with a rational mind (no I never thought I'd say that about either, cause we all know you're bat ****). Think of it like this, if someone was in so much physical pain and there was nothing medicine could do, I have no problem with someone wanting to die and I doubt you do as well. Maybe his mental pain was so much and couldn't helped. For all you know he has gotten help.
How can I look down my nose at somebody who did more than I ever will in 43 years of life? Still doesn't take away that IMO the man is a quitter....thats the great thing about these fan boards, they are a place to give your opinions...
Sure I can see that... the mental I just dont think anybody will ever know expect maybe ole donut guy a few posts up.... And as an aside Mor, and HK need to work quickly....on that other issue...
eh you're just a cynic, which I understand why having been raised in a family of civil servants. But either way, never hurts to question your cynicism some times..... On another note, who knew you could go a whole post without putting some crazy guido language?
My parents work in the private sector...... Surprised nobody has blamed Republicans on gun control laws or lack thereof....
Guys, I think fighting about this is pointless. The important question to ask now is: Why couldn't it have been Teddy Bruschi?
