Oh man, not the Dell guy. We already crash all the time (at the end of games and seasons), have too many viruses (injuries) and have a **** load of uninformed users (fans) but if the printer the Dolphins use for programs runs out of ink will they have to order from Dell and wait for it in the mail?
I don't understand the hate for Mark Cuban. Do you realize how bad the Dallas Mavericks were before he took over? He also has actually grown less meddlesome and it started paying off. He no longer has the players to his home, etc. Yeah, he tweaks the media and the refs but it is entertaining and he puts a good product on the court. If Wade wasn't one of the 2-3 best players in the world he'd have a championship (and I'm glad he doesn't, b/c I'm a Heat fan)
Bring on any and all suitors....the more the merrier. New blood on the team, Staff, in the front office, or the box suite is fine by me.
I just can't stand the guy period. I don't know how much of a hand he had in the Mav's success, or if it would do any good here, but it would be almost impossible for him to grow on me. Especially after his latest movie project.
No. Dell is not just another message board user or tech rag writer. He's the CEO of a multimillion dollar international corporation considered the leader in its market. He is paid far, far more than you or I specifically to identify future trends and adopt them before everyone else does. Foresight is his primary responsibility. If Dell couldn't do his job as CEO in 1997 in spotting the resurgence of Apple, what makes you think he would do his job in 2008 and beyond managing the resurgence of the Miami Dolphins?
One has nothing to do with the other...you are overthinking this in a big way. The reverse is also true, I dont think Steve Jobs has any more or less talent to own a football team (not run it, own it). I will take anyone with $$$$ that loves football, invests in the Miami Dolphins, and listens to folks with Football brains to run the show.
I think Dell would only be a minority partner in the scenario discussed. Ross would be the head guy and presumably the one with the power to make the decisions.
I'm not overthinking this. Big-money people are paid to think big. Dell didn't. End of story. And, no, I don't want Steve Jobs as the Dolphins' owner either. He'd be the kind of meddlesome owner I despise in Jerry Jones, Al Davis, and Daniel Snyder.
I know people love to bash Jerry Jones but the man has won 3 Super Bowls and might win another in the next few years. Same with Al Davis, the Raiders played in 2 AFC championship games and a Superbowl in the last 10 years. How'd the Fins do in that same time period? Snyder I agree, but he appears to have stayed out of Gibbs' way and he is certainly willing to spend to improve the team.
Duuude, relax, you're getting a Dell..... Tech Billionaire vs Real Estate Billionaires? I like the Real Estate Billionaires, but that is just me, maybe a Tech one would be more willing to spend on the Team?
No. I'm tired of people giving this accomplishment to Jerry Jones. He did nothing to get that team to the Super Bowl. The Herschel Walker trade did. The only reason the Cowboys are doing anything right now is because Bill Parcells got lucky that an undrafted free agent turned out to be a franchise QB. We don't need a Jerry Jones style owner. We just need some luck.
Wow. Didn't Jones hire the guy who engineered the Walker trade? The owner hires the people who unearth undrafted free agents, doesn't he? You're right, we need some luck, but sometimes you make your own luck. When you hire great talent scouts/general managers you are more likely to find thos diamonds in the rough. I'm not saying we need a Jerry Jones style owner but the fact is he has 3 Super Bowl rings and Wayne has none and won't have any prior to his selling the team.
The one positive thing I can say about Jones is that he found his guys and had patience with them. That's the one thing Jones can teach the Miami Dolphins fanbase: sit down, shut up, and give it four years before you open your mouths again.
Constant change is never going to help anything. Maybe if we would keep Cam for more than 1 year we can have effective drafts and not have coaches inherit teams that aren't theirs.
Quite the wit and quite the memory. I believe he fired Chan Gailey after 2 seasons, with 2 playoff appearances. (and I'm the guy standing up for Jones!)
Indeed, but Jones probably had a sense that a decline was coming and a coaching change would avert it. Boy, was he wrong. (But he's infallible!) Jones isn't perfect, but he showed patience after a 1-15 season. That's what I credit him with.
S. Jobs was the owner of Pixar and for the most part stayed out of the way. He would probably be the same way or even more hands off than Wayne H., not meddlesome at all. I would prefer Wayne keep it though. If he chooses to sell it, it should be to a local billionaire.....<hint> Mickey Arison </hint>
Fair enough. As I've stated to Finascious, I'm willing to get on board with Cam staying. Maybe I am completely wrong in my assesment of him (wouldn't be the first time or last time I'm wrong about something). What I'm not willing to do is keep moving the goalposts for him. We need to start seeing results, next year. I'm not asking for the playoffs, but improvement. And if Beck develops, the playoffs in year 3 should be a realistic possibility. When you (or whoever, I'm not trying to single you out) syas, wait 4 years, 5 years, etc., that is where I draw the line. If we are still a 5-6 win team in year 3 i think it's time to make a change.
Did the trade occur through magic? JJ made it happen. He deserves all the credit in the world for it.
Hmm, Michael Dell's job as CEO in 1997 was forecasting the resurgence of Apple? News to me. Too bad after making that statement, he overtook Compaq, overtook HP and Compaq when they merged, and oh became one of the most successful companies out there. Yea too bad all that is worthless because he didn't see Apple which just rehired Jobs as a turnaround. On that token maybe apple should have been disbanded, as they couldn't see that firing jobs was a mistake. What I find amusing is you call them the market leader, yet say he isn't fit because of one statement he made about a Job'less Apple. That said, I don't see Dell buying us anyway. Wayne has all the right ingredients for a great owner, just has bad luck in his hires and some bad decisions. But a loose pocket owner who loves his team and is mostly hands off?
Link from VIP has an update, and it says that Michael Dell could be a partner with Ross. http://www.miamiherald.com/breaking_sports/story/349429.html
he's not selling it to Micheal Dell. Micheal Dell in buying 20000 apt from Ross. That with the Abu Dabbi gov compensation he will have 1.4 billion.
Apple has historically taken around 5% or less of the PC market, they're at 8.1% right now. That's over 10 years. Apple is just now starting to make their gains in the market, and at that time Dell was not the CEO, he just re-took the position. http://www.appleinsider.com/article..._market_share_rises_to_8_1_percent_in_q3.html Looks like he's outdone the competition big time, what's the beef?
