this pick will be bantered about until you see Miller on the field

Miller reminds of a combination of Chris Johnson & young Ricky Williams
the guy has been clocked @ 4.32 & never under 4.4
was not a need but certainly presents an opportunity
to upgrade the running stable: Bush, Thomas, Slaton & Miller, outrageous!

Martin has been considered by some as the best RB in this draft
behind Richardson & was predicted early-on to go in the late 1st to early 2nd round
he disappointed early in the draft process
electing to have a surgical procedure
performed on a his shoulder @ the end of the season
this guy was an obsolete steal & he has very few miles on the tread

should be a very interesting year

Lamar Miller is absolutely NOTHING like either of those guys 23rd. At all.

Watching him in every game as a Cane...I'm not sure what he is exactly. First of all he doesn't have power so much as he has great BALANCE. He doesn't power through tackles he tends to bounce off of them. I'm not sure if he can do that in the NFL the way he did this last season for us in Miami.

As far as the Chris Johnson comparison...couldn't be more off. Johnson has extremely agility and quick feet which allow him to have ridiculous side to side movement in tight spaces. He's also faster than Miller. Miller DOES possess great speed and very good agility but it's nowhere near Johnson.

I think Miller can be a great 3rd down back but I'm not sure if he's an every down guy.

I see your point but unless the OL play improves then "Miller in the backfield with Bush flanked out as a WR" = our QB getting a steady diet of dirt & grass sandwiches.

To me, Miller is more like Jamaal Charles then he is CJ2k, great hips great acceleration

I agree, he's not CJ2K by any stretch and he's not an every down back in the NFL.

But he won't need to be either of those to be a productive player. I actually don't see him as a 3rd down back either b/c he sucks in pass pro.

What I do see is a guy who has the vision and explosiveness to break off chunks of yardage if the OL can open even a small hole. I think he can be effective as a change of pace back a la Ahmad Bradshaw when Brandon Jacobs was their main back. Bush is in his contract year and I doubt we'll want to spend the necessary $$$ to bring him back so having Miller as a fall back option is a good idea IMO. Perhaps a WR wouldve been a better idea but our FO is well aware of the WR situation so my guess is they didnt see anyone available that would give them the value that Miller does. We shall see.

    Alex44:
well, we have very different opinions on the potential of Martin @ RB
I compared him in an appropriate if not strange way Chris & Ricky.
    1) Martin is a very young back with lots of rubber left on his wheels
    2) he has been considered as the second best back by a number of pundits in this draft
    3) he was originally slated as a late first or early second draft pick

    the comparison:
    A) he has the flat out speed & allusiveness of Chis Johnson (without the big mouth) & a much stronger runner
    B) he reminds me of Ricky (my all-time favorite) in his break away speed, allusiveness, determination, size & the way he finishes off a run.

just my comparison, just another opinion. I think it was an excellent pick & this a very good upgrade:yes:

IMO The days of needing to be a great pass blocker at RB on third down are over. He's not a good blocker but in space he can take a swing pass for 15 yards or break a long gain on a draw play.

That's probably the best NFL comparison and there isn't a thing wrong with getting that type of talent. He does not need to be workhorse. Teams mostly use a RBBC nowadays and Miller can be part of the rotation with Bush and Thomas.

He has some pass rush potential and is a very athletic backer with decent size. About 6'3 and 240.

Doug Martin went to the Bucs in the late 1st, so it sounds like you're happy they got a good player, right at the point in the draft he was predicted to go.

Blocking is all about desire, Miller's problem is the typical U/Shannon problem, poorly coached.

Could he be coming in to play WR? We are loaded at RB with Bush, Thomas, Slaton, and the CFL kid.

This guy looks like a WR upfield

I think Miller was a real steal & excellent pick for Miami
for all the reasons I have already cited

    Speedy:
yes, he was supposed to go in the late 1st or early 2nd round
& was proclaimed by some pundits as the second best RB in the draft

    I like the pick also..

Actually, Thomas fits the zone blocking as a runner...a one cut and go guy. That's his forte and there's a place for him on this team. Miller is a different type of back. He'll get his shots, but in different places and situations... There's room for both...

As to the WR question, Jennings is not a #1 WR. He's a damn good receiver, but not a #1 in a vertical offense... Nelson is what Bess would be with more speed...and still not a #1 WR... You forgot about Gates. He's our speed guy, possibly our main target this coming year. I think the big thing is that we fans naturally will look at what we had last year and how these guys compare to that. This is going to be a different offense, one developed around the talent we do have... We'll see the ball spread around a lot more this coming year so the fact that we don't have a WR the caliber of Marshall isn't the big loss as it would be running the offense from last year... Don't get me wrong, I would much rather have seen either a better prospect via this draft or a more established WR than what we currently have on the roster via FA, but I also don't think we'll miss Marshall's production quite as much as many seem to think.

Lamar Miller is a good pick he has a lot of potential. I see a Thomas/Miller backfield in the near future. Tells me they don't want to lean on Reggie Bush and I don't blame em. He also has good value for the 4th round.

That said... we still have no real receiving threat.

I guess the Dolphins are saying "No WRs no problem"

yeah he was projected at one time to be a first round pick and in most places had him going in the 40s he was a steal and i love this pick, more speed, he is a playmaker and a homerun hitter

How can you not like this pick? He was easily the BPA, slipped because of his shoulder injury, and you get him with a 4th round price tag. What's not to like? I'm stoked Ireland had the balls to pick him.

I had him rated as the 3rd best RB in the draft. I never like trading up, but in this case, this is good value and a good move.

what i love about this draft is the value picks we got IMO. tannehill(by most experts) egnew, martin, miller on a lot of boards were first round contenders at some point in the last couple years. egnew if he would have come out after 2010 would have been a top 15 pick or so IMO

We DID NOT get value with Tannehill. We reached by at least half a round.
But I do believe we got great value with Martin, Miller, Matthews and Kaddu.

We didn't have a pick at the end of round 1 though. So we took Tannehill at 8. Honestly though, who gives a ****? If he's good, he's good.

Ireland is talking about Miller being the "returner".

Not sure I'm wild about that idea but maybe Gates just cannot handle the pounding
