http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/blog/rob-rang/18852101/second-and-third-round-mock-draft 42. Miami - Andre Branch, DE, Clemson 72. Miami - Brian Quick, WR, Appalachian State 73. Miami (from CAR) - Mitchell Schwartz, OT, California It fills the 3 positions I think we need over these next 3 picks. Not sure if I like those picks though. Especially with Bobbie Massie going to the Jets in that mock. I'd rather go OT Massie at 42, DE Crawford at 72, WR Ryan Broyles at 73 based on that mock.
I know what I'd rather go with, all of these guys are still on the board at each of those picks in that mock: V V V V V V
With the way that mock goes....I'd trade way down in the 2nd. 42nd pick is 480 points. Drop to around 60 and that's worth a mid to mid-late 3rd rounder. That would give us 3 3rd's and we could still grab someone like Chris Givens, WR, Brandon Brooks, OG, Mike Adams, OT etc etc. Then come back and literally do WR/Safety and DE all in the 3rd would be sweet.
Just give me Massie in the 2nd and let the BPA fall to us with our third round picks. I want a tackle that can start immediately and make an impact. I don't want to reach for one in the 4th and spend time developing him.
Yah I'm man crushing on Massie also. Just seeing Mike Adams drop that far just has me dreaming of trade down options to get more picks. I really don't see Adams dropping like that though.
Playmakers > lineman. We survived with the worst RT in football. Can't go anywhere but up. A. Janoris Jenkins is my first choice if available. Shutdown corners are hard to find. Take the gamble on character issues. B. Rueben Randle would be my second choice if JJ isn't there. Might not have a shot at either. In which case, I could be happy with almost anyone. Hopefully Tommy Streeter is still around in the 3rd. Length, speed, athleticism, and a ton upside coming out of his ***.
How do you figure? We nearly set a Dolphins record for sacks allowed and gave up 52 overall. Gotta protect the QB.
Columbo retired... Anyone will play better. If we take a lineman, I won't be mad... but really, enough is enough. We need people to create turnovers and score points.
If we go DE in the second I would have to agree with you. Curry is a sack machine. However I think we need to give Tanny some targets so I lean toward Fleener if there
And we will get them. Next 3 picks will most likely be OT, WR and DE. 2 of 3 will be guys who can create turnovers and score points.
because his football knowledge is limited to espn highlights? as much as this is a pass happy league you still win and lose based on your line play and how well you can protect your quarterback/create running room for your RB and other skill players. I'd be happy with a OT or WR or fleener if he falls but WR might be a pressing need since we have so little at the postion as is. This whole "linemen don't score points so just plug a fat guy in there" mentality is pretty ignorant. Look how much better the steelers are than us talent wise at almost every position but their Oline literally sacked their playoff chances.
I fully expect us to double dip at OL and WR. We just drafted a 1st round QB who they might accelerate and start him this year. So we better make sure we protect him because if he gets knocked around too early....it'll be a setback.
Massie is good, but not the only option. Schwartz in the 3rd could well be a plug and play starter from day 1 at RT.
I'd take McNutt in the third and wouldn't think twice about it. Who cares where Mel Kiper says he should go? If you like a player enough, take him.
No Iowa bias coming out is there? Hey, since you are Mr Iowa around here, what would you think of Broderick Binns in the 7th?
In ALL honesty, McNutt is the only Iowa player I would select in this draft. If that tells you anything... Binn is a guy who is an overachiever, IMO. Undersized and I don't think he will amount to much in the NFL... he was a good player for us at Iowa though, no question.
If I was going by draftniks I would have said 5th rounder I just don't see him as a 3rd. Match up Broyles and come back with Nutt in the 4th.....sooooo much better.
If that would happen (obviously I would love it), that'd be great. However I wouldn't be afraid to pull the trigger on McNutt in the 3rd round at all.
How about streeter in the 4th? he runs in the low 4.3s and is 6'4". He needs route running polishing tho
Philbin wants guys who are intelligent, can play all WR spots. This tends to suggest you look for guys who already have polished route running abilities.
Offensive lineman are valuable. Just not as valuable as skill position players, especially day 2 of the draft, when our team is deficient in playmakers.. We have none beyond Cam Wake. We can't find a RT later in the draft? We can't sign a serviceable FA to play RT while we improve our skill positions? We traded away 40% of passing offense to Chicago for peanuts... Our WR corps are trash beyond our slot guy Bess. Vontae lead the team in INT with four. Randy Starks finished 2nd with two... Red zone threats? None... Draft more lineman? Expert maneuver. Smart. brb going to watch more ESPN highlights.
I've been talking about him a little bit. Kid is raw. Doesn't have a ton of experience, didn't run a variety of routes. The upside is ridiculous though. I have to believe with his measurables and athleticism, he's going before 4. Someone will develop him. Wouldn't mind taking a flyer in round 3. I also want Travis Benjamin at some point...
I wouldn't trade up at all. Miami could use bodies in a lot of areas. For instance that 4th could be another WR for us like McNutt.
Thats exactly what I said/asked about doing in the second. Would the 4th be enough to move up to grab the STL pick?
Yes, according to the sacred value chart our second and fourth rounders would be enough to get pick #33. Now, Fleener or Upshaw or Martin?
Booya. RT it was. Sure I thought it was Massie, but then I never thought Martin would make it to us. Martin also fits exactly what this new coaching staff wants in an OL. Athletic and under 320lbs. He's 312lbs at 6'5".
