So it appears as though my cat has gone missing. My Central Air unit was being repaired today, and the door was open. I was in the house the whole time, but didn't see her wandering around. A few hours later I noticed I had not seen her and searched the house, but to no avail. Has anyone lost a pet before, and if so, any pointers that my wife and I can follow to assist? We've placed some dirty laundry outside, along with some food and some litter. We've walked (and driven) the immediate neighborhood, but haven't had any results. We're going to post some flyers, but I'm concerned, because it's getting dark and my cat hasn't been outside before.
I've never had a cat that didnt come back. Unlike dogs, cats come back to the house 99% of the time unless something bad happens to them, which doesnt happen often either. Just keep an ear to your door for the meowing that will be coming. It will turn out okay.
Try to post stuff as soon as possible with a decent picture in a radius of at least a few hundred yards. Sooner the better. The dirty laundry and food is a really good idea. Sure she's didn't get into a vent or something during the install? They do often come back, usually in 2-3 days when they start getting really hungry.
Yeah, I checked the vents to the AC already, thinking she may have slipped into one of the ducts or something. We'll get flyers up tonight/tomorrow. Probably going to put more laundry outside. The problem is I actually live in a mobile home park, so I'm concerned that all the houses look the same ... she may end up outside the wrong house.
Sorry to hear that man. My cat has gotten out I'd say a total of 10 times and we have been lucky enough to find her. She is a Savannah so we are very fortunate. Longest she was missing was 4 days.
I have a great cat story. So when I was 6 we took in this stray cat. My mom insisted we give it away because she was allergic. We gave it to a family friend who had it in his truck with the window cracked while he made a stop somewhere (the store or something?) He came back and the cat was gone... he called my parents to let them know what had happened, my sister cried, it was horrible. Would you believe 3 or 4 weeks later this ****in cat showed up at our house! Missing fur and pretty weathered but ok for the most part. The craziest part is according to the friend he was approx. 8 or 10 miles away from our home when the cat escaped. I'll never forget that. My sis and I were joking about it a few months ago. Those little bastards really do have 9 lives...
I hear ya VO, she was an indoor cat I take it? If she was fixed, you'll see her soon enough, if you have fixed feeding times for her, like in the morning or in the evening, that would be the time to take a walk around the neighborhood my friend. She put you on a schedule for a reason....
She was an indoor cat ... yeah ... and thank god she's fixed. We'll probably walk around again before bed tonight, and then again in the morning. Mrs. Odin has the day off tomorrow, I'm fairly certain this will be her #1 priority.
Don't get too hopeful about tomorrow VO, they like to stay gone for a couple of days. I think they do it because they know it pisses us off..... At night and in the morning..an indoor cat...she is cruising around just wandering, when the tummy starts to shrink she will return...hopefully...
So ... my cat just appeared out of thin air. She was apparently hanging out in the twilight zone or something, because she just sauntered into the living room and was like "hey guys, what's going on?" Cats are jerks.
I'll keep an eye out up here for her if she manages to make her way to Canada i'll let you know!!! I think your best bet is to put up some pics on flyers around town, maybe put something in your local paper's classified's and see if that helps! Best of luck!
See...cats know that stuff pisses us off and they do it anyway, and then they don't even feel bad about it..... Good to hear that VO...
Good to hear that she returned. If she does happen to get out, make sure to put up the posters asap and call the humane society and animal control to see if they have seen, heard or have your cat.
good to hear she came back bro. and an fyi dogs more often return home as well. Dogs are just picked up more by animal control IMO.
Anytime man. Thanks, he was pretty awesome to play with. I was young at the time so it had a bigger affect than now. But hey everything happens for a reason, maybe he's in a better place now .
That's tough bro. I grew up on a farm, so I've had my share of pets go missing. It's never easy, no matter how old or young you are.
Oh God, I can't imagine what you went through considering how many animals there are. I wouldn't be able to handle that especially if one that I loved or was a "man's best friend" went missing. I didn't grow up on a farm but I did a fair share of rabbits and dogs. They got along well (really not sure if they are suppose to or not). They were all lost in the Balkan War. As some of you may know, I was born in Bosna. Lets just say that those loses were the least of my worries at that time.
Glad to hear that your cat is okay. Being a former cat owner myself, the thing to remember here is that they're beyond curious. Whatever is any hole, nook, cranny, crevice, and precipice is their business and they're going to try and find out what's there. Sorry to hear about the dog. When my last dog died I was in serious mourning for months.
Yeah in my experience dogs know their way back home, I've never really lost any pets but my dogs have sscaped before when I was gone, usually the lawn guys would leave agate open and they woudl run out, but not very far, I'd find them just sleeeping infront of the garage.
when i was younger, we had a cat who jumped out of the pet carrier in the parking lot of the vet's office. we lost track of her. two weeks later, she shows up at home. i think the vets office was abut 5 miles away.
