Everybody is saying Tannehill is gonna have to wait a year and learn the NFL before he can start. They said the same thing about Cam Newton. Boy, were "they" wrong! I say throw him in there and let him figure it out. Start him against Houston. Let er rip!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Big Ben is another guy with relatively little experience who did ok early on. But then you see a guy like Gabbert and well ... I would offer him the chance to compete, I would not tell him hes automatically riding the bench, but I would be cautious. Damaged goods aren't worth much.
I'd like to see him start from day 1 just like everyone else would. But I'd also like to see Sherman and Philbin slowly bring him along as well. I want Philbin to bring the GB approach with qb's. I know Rodgers sat behind a great in Favre, so it is a different scenerio, but it is a given that Philbin knows how to bring along qb's. Id much rather him sit a yr and then set the house on fire in yr two than start early and then slowly grow and progress ala eli manning. Every qb is different though, and one thing that Tanne will have on the other qbs is he will know the offense from the first day. Patience is the key fellas.
I'd like for him to sit and wait and learn, but I say you go in to camp and give him every chance to succeed. He if blows away the competition give him the job, otherwise let him sit.
you just never know about these things. what we do know is Ryan wants to win the start straight up & that's a very good thing. personally, I'm satisfied with the QB Stable as it stands. let them compete
hes more talented than any other quarterback on our roster and he's also a more talented WR that any WR on our roster. If we cut moore tomorrow what team could he start for?
Nah, Moore deserves a shot at a full season IMO. He earned it. And hey, with a weaker schedule, who knows? Our biggest improvement from last season is simply going to be not starting out 0-7
God dude, he only compared their situations (limited starts in college) heading into the NFL, not their ability or likelihood of NFL success.
Cam Newton is more talented than Tannehill could dream to be. And that's not even a knock on Tannehill. Cam Newton might of had some questions about being a passer so early because of the system he played in, but it was quite obvious that he was going to be an unstoppable force as a runner from day one. Cam Newton has more quarterback talent that Tannehill on top of that. I don't disagree however that Tannehill should start from day one. If he has the talent that you should expect from a top 10 pick, he will be fine. This is 2012, not 1991. QB's are just fine starting from day one. Only exception if if you have a David Carr Texans type offensive line in front of you. Our line isn't THAT bad, nobody's is. He'll suck if Hartline is still our #1 WR, but it won't ruin him. Matt Moore will prove to be useless by week 6, we'll have nothing to lose.
It's simple. If Matt Moore and Ryan are virtually tied or close in camp...go with the kid. If it's not close enough you go with Moore.
Deserves? I'm not convinced he could beat out Garrard, and no way does he stand in the way of Tannehill if its to our advantage to start him later this year. If I believed Moore could win us 10 games this season and get us into the playoffs I'd be fine with giving him the season, but he is here as a "temp" and we all know it.
