technically wouldnt elite teams have a lot less to lose ......and complete garbage teams would have ALOT MORE TO LOSE when drafting a 100% developmental player to sit on the bench at #8 overall?

I'm drunk and even that just sobered me up for a second.

No its okay. We havent had good draft picks in a long time, so its okay to waste them, as long as we waste them over and over until one turns out to be okay.

Sorry guys. Next year we'll draft another interior lineman that will have literally no effect on the success of our team. I mean, look at all the success that Jake Long, Mike Pouncey, and Jared Odrick brought us!

If Tannehill sat for 1-3 straight seasons, literally ANYTHING would have more impact than that.

Drafting more coloful shoe laces for our players would have more IMPACT then that.

Don't draft semi-long term development at 8. especially since he would have slid for sure.

Excluding Long they are both still young players who will have a huge impact in seasons to come. Long is surely going to be a HOFer if he keeps playing at the level he played in prior to last year when he was injury plagued.

I've seen elite OTs on garbage teams. Very rarely have I seen elite QBs on garbage teams.

I have no problem with Long, Pouncey or Odrick, but ultimately their impact on the game is relatively miniscule.

You never would have gotten him there. K.C. talked to Miami about moving up to 8 for Tannehill. Tanny sits for a year at most.

    :no:doesn't need a handle
Ryan or Tannehill will do just fine
what he needs to do is initiate his quest for the Franchise QB mantle

would not surprise me if he won the start
although admittedly, it would be an improbable start
but it could happen. definitely think he'll get some playing time

not concerned with this @ this point, lot of coaching to catch up on in Miami
this is the year of the Coach:dolphin:

What the hell are you talking about? So we should stay away from potential franchise QB's because they MAY not make an impact for a few years? That makes zero sense. If you find a QB who can lead your team for the next 12 years, you take him. If he needs a year to sit, then fine, but you take him anyway. And I'm glad we did.

By the way, I'm going to go out on a limb and say Tannehill plays at some point this season, and maybe even wins the job in camp. I know he's only played QB for a few years, but he knows this offense inside and out.

I can't stand it. If you're not happy with the pick, fine. But don't call him bust or anything like that right away. That's just unfair.

I like "Tanny" or "Tan the Man". But I might just call him Ryan. ;)

Alot of you guys are ridiculous. He's no good if he doesn't start right away. That's basically what I'm hearing from a few of you guys. Wake up. Marino didn't even start right away. He got mop up duty for awhile and didn't get a start till later in the season. This perception that a highly drafted Qb has to start right then is patently absurd. I wouldn't have had a problem with it if they dropped back a little and still picked him up or if he wasn't there they grabbed who ever they thought was the best pass rusher, but I have no problem taking this guy at 8. If we miss with him oh well but they've at least gone after a guy who is a legitimate Qb prospect instead of the never ending stream of scrubs and has-beens they previously wasted 2nd round picks on.

If we listened to many of you we'll still be where we've been for the last 12 years, sitting in the dugout and not even making a swing let alone swinging for the fences. There are not many "sure things" in the NFL draft and even fewer at the Qb position. Even the sure things often don't pan out. the point is though you have to at least make a legit effort to try and draft one even if you miss. You can't have it both ways.

I would be ecstatic and think he has a very good shot at doing so. What I am bent about is Ireland shooting his wad too early when we could have made at least one trade down for even an extra 3rd or 4th and still got him.

Touchdown after touchdown, oh the points it'll yield

The Tandy Man can 'cause he slings it like a pro and makes the Dolphins cheer.

I must be Caspar Milk-toast, I didn't even know they "warned" people and I've been on FH then here for about 10 years. We all cheer and bleed Aqua & Orange in here, and every one of us has a differing opinion on a variety of subjects. There is nothing wrong with friendly and fun banter between friends, or telling someone you have "this" opinion instead of "that" opinion.

To personally attack ANYone for having an opinion, no matter how different your opinion may be, is IMVHO not only childish and uncalled for, but also takes away from the quality of this site. As I believe good old Will Rogers put it, "if you don't have anything good to say about a person, don't say anything".

Seems to me as tough as it's been being a Dolphins fan the last 10 years, we ought to be supportive of one another and closing ranks as a fanbase. Not to mention personal attacks violate the TOS. If I over-stepped my bounds here mods, please let me know.

Now in the immortal words of Rodney King: "Can't we all just get along?"

Personally I like Tanny just fine. Then again it might be interesting to somehow find out what nicknae the veteran players give Tanny, particularly if he earns their respect right away.

    Jk...... THill for me.

About the Qb, THill, this is a very talented athlete y'all, with seemingly the work ethic and toughness to match, that is fine combination for an athlete to have, especially one that's puttin on our uniform, I mean there are some fundamental QB issues there for me, but when you can play at that high of level, at two positions, in big time college football, and, one of the positions was QB, (which is even more incredible if you think about it), you got my respect.

Let's see if he can make plays while he learns the game.

I'm generally thanking posts that at least actually try and come up with nick names rather than cluttering the thread with off topic banter.

I like Tan the Man and Tannimal. Those are my votes so far. The only thing I could think of that plays on the name is "TDHill". It also sounds kind of like "Tittyhill" which is a nice bonus.

Unfortunately the name is way more susceptible to negative nicknames than positive ones. Immediately, "Hennehill" is the first I could think of. Then "Nannyhill" and "Fannyhill", both of which conjure the image of our quarterback being a weak old woman, which isn't cool.

We need to get FinsNation on this one. They think outside the box. Doesn't need to be a play on Tannehill's name. For instance, I thought their nickname for Reggie Bush (LaMontelle Pu$$yhammer) was sheer brilliance.
