Mike Mayock released his top 100 today, and he has also updated his position standings. He moved up Chandler Jones to the #1 DE above Quentin Coples, and moved Shea McClellin to #1 OLB above Melvin Ingram. What do you guys think of these shifts? I have seen many mock drafts saying that we get Coples instead of Tannenhill, but with this list it now brings attention to McClellin and Jones. Chances we get Jones @8? http://www.nfl.com/draft/story/0900...rd-shifts-before-event?module=HP11_hot_topics His top 20 are: 1. Andrew Luck 2. RG3 3. Trent Richardson 4. Morris Claiborne 5. Matt Kalil 6. Luke Kuechly 7. Mark Barron 8. Stephon Gilmore 9. Chandler Jones 10. Justin Blackmon 11. Fletcher Cox 12. Michael Floyd 13. Dontari Poe 14. Shea McClellin 15. Dont'a Hightower 16. Kendall Wright 17. Doug Martin 18. Melvin Ingram 19. Ryan Tannehill 20. Riley Reiff I cannot find the link on the NFL.com website for his top 100, so not sure about this source who supposedly says it was copied and pasted from nfl.com http://corner.bigblueinteractive.com/index.php?mode=2&thread=441087
i really dont get into the whole draft guru stuff since none of them know what is or isnt going to happen.
Shea McClellin is the most versatile OLB in this draft, IMO. He can cover very well, is a great rusher, can stop the run. I wouldn't be surprised if he goes round 1.
Agreed, but would be surprised if its top 10. 19 is still, at a minimum 20 spots too high for Tannehill.......IJS
Yep, DAMN good catch Alex. DeCastro might be the very most complete player coming into this draft. He really belongs in top 5, top 10 at the VERY least.
Even though I know many fans would go crazy, he is a guard I wouldn't mind taking at #8 if we aren't feeling good about the QB prospects. It makes it easier that the draft is so deep at WR as well. Normally, I'd be irate if we selected a guard in the top ten but DeCastro could be THAT GOOD.
Sorry, but I dont see the problem with taking a guard at 8. You cant get a great one in FA because they get tagged and resigned or WAY overpaid in the event they are let go. If he is the best or highest rated player when its our turn, you take him. He fills a big need for us.
Honestly I'd never take a guard in the early-mid first round, but DeCastro has the talent to be a HOF player in my opinion. He more than fills a need. Put him next to Jake Long and you have the most dominant left side in football. Put him on the right side and any RT becomes instantly better. Also in my opinion Pouncey needs a guy who can help push NT's off the ball in short yardage situations.
I don't think so? He has DeCastro rated at #24 when in reality he is probably the best prospect behind Luck and maybe Richardson.
Mike mayocks mock draft comes out wednesday. Plus do you reallly see us getting gillmore at 8? Or jags getting barron? Or even Rams drafting Kuechly?
Mayock is merely listing the players according to where he ranks them, regardless of position. He obviously isn't trying to smokescreen anyone with these rankings. In fact Mayock has the Dolphins taking Tannehill with the eight pick in the draft, even though he only has Tannehill as the 19th rated player on his board. He obviously feels, as many others do, that the need for the Dolphins to select a QB in the first round will out weigh the fact that there will be better prospects at other positions, when the Dolphins select with the 8th pick in the first round.
Yes, but all eleven of these can probably come in and start immediately for the Dolphins. Unlike Tannehill, who is said to need at least a year or two on the bench before he MIGHT become a starter in the NFL. If QB were the only need the Dolphins had at this time, I could see taking the chance on Tannehill. Since they have many needs though, I would prefer they take a player in the first round who can come in from day one and contribute as a starter immediately. That is why I want them to draft Kuechly, Ingram, Blackmon, Floyd or Barron with their first round selection.
What team has only one need? That is a situation that will never happen. Especially to a team that is picking in the top 15.
I agree, I just am not that high on Tannehill and I would rather the Dolphins select a player who can start immediately. Not take a top ten pick who has a lot of questions concerning how effective he might be in the NFL. I realize that QB is a top need for this team but I am not sold that Tannehill is a QB who can be the long term starter for this team. Obviously this is my opinion and the coaches and Ireland have the final say and they could care less what my opinion on Tannehill is.
There are only a few players at 8 that look like they do not have a lot of questions concerning how effective they might be in the NFL. The ones that do not are offensive linemen.
Obviously EVERY single player in the draft is a question mark until they actually step on the field and show they can play at the NFL level. Some have more questions than others. My view is that Tannehill is more of a risk than a number of the players who will most likely still be on the board at #8. Of course that is my opinion and I realize you and many others on here are willing to take the risk on Tannehill at 8. Now all we have to do is wait and see if Ireland agrees with you or with me. Thursday can't get here fast enough for me, so we can all see what the Dolphins are going to do.
That is something we agree with. The draft can't come fast enough for me once the Dolphins season is over. Edit: I am willing to take a risk on Tannehill because QB is important. I am not one who believe that the Dolphins must draft Tannehill. I also think reasoning that he is the 19th ranked player in a draft is more of a reason to take him at 8 then it is against. Especially in this draft when after the top 6 players, the rest look to be about the same level up to 25.
Mayock gets me, the way he is constantly changing his value board or top 5 at each positions, multiple times every week. It makes me think he isn't going by his personal evaluation of the players, but instead by what he hears on various players in the rumor mill. He always likes to put some off the wall choices in there, for whatever reason. The last top 5 safeties he put out was: Barron, Smith, Brandon Taylor, Menzie and Phillip Thomas. If you've followed the safety rankings since the end of the season, that is just bizarre, other than Barron and Smith. Granted, Taylor, Menzie and Thomas could be the next 3 best when all is said and done, but what have they done to deserve to be moved up since their last games were played? None of them have produced any dynamic Pro Day workouts that would indicate a need to move them up a value board either. Taylor for example had 2nd worst short shuttle and 2nd worst 3 cone for safeties at the combine. Since then he slightly improved his 3 cone to what would be a middle of the pack time. So that's enough to vault him past Iloka and Martin I guess. Menzie played corner at Alabama, and I've never seen him graded a top ten corner, and yet now Mayock makes him his 4th safety. National Football Post ranks Menzie as the 43rd corner, but he is Mayock's 4th safety, for a few days anyway. He changes his top 5 rankings like most people change their underwear. Phillip Thomas is a FS I like, but he runs in the 4.7s and I've never seen him ranked higher than a 6th rounder, but he is top 5 at the position for Mayock. This nonsense makes me more likely to watch ESPN's draft coverage this year.
Mayock is on drugs. Just been seeing some of his vaunted top 100, and he has DeCastro at 24 and Janoris Jenkins at 56. All the more reason I'll choose ESPN for my draft viewing.
