I think you guys are misunderstanding what he means. Basically he is saying "Based on what I know about Cameron Wake, this is what type of person I believe him to be" Some people are great at reading others and some suck, but it is far from mind reading. Basically you don't have to believe him, but what he's saying isn't really outlandish.
I, honestly think we should trade Cam Wake. There are just too many things that point in that direction: 1.) He is 30 years old- By the time we become relevant, he will be past his prime and most likely be retired. 2.) He is in a contact year- He lead all NFL LBs in combined QB pressures, hits, and sacks last season. He is going to command a HUGE contact. Basically, next year he is going to be 31 and will most likely want a HUGE contract to counteract how little money he has made up to this point and the fact that he probably only will play another 3 to 4 years. I think it would be foolish for us to spend the type of money he will command, especially given our likely team situation next year. 3.) We haven't worked out a long term deal- Another reason we might trade him is because he has such a little base salary this year it would be super easy to trade him. Whoever would want him could be in a cap situation and still work around it because his salary is so low. If we get a deal with him worked out before the draft, there is probably little chance we trade him. 4.) His value- Wake could probably easily fetch us a 2nd in this years draft, and we would probably even get an additional pick in the following draft. Personally, while I love Wake I think now is the time to trade him. Our options are simple in my opinion: 1.) Trade him for at least a 2nd (and probably something else...) 2.) Resign him to the HUGE contract he will want and rightfully deserves 3.) Franchise him next year (only a short-term fix that is very expensive, this will probably piss him off too) 4.) Let him leave in FA next year (I guess we could probably get a 3rd round compensatory pick?) For me option 1 is the easy decision.
Then we can tie bricks to his feet and throw him into a river. If he floats and lives, well, he is a witch and needs to be burned. Hahaha Oh the crap they made up read in HS summer reading.
serious question, are you a psychologist/have some type of background in this field or is this God given. I too feel like I can read someone's personality but not from the limited access that we have as fans. Do you have different access to Wake, just curious?
You're right. I have no clue as to what I'm good at and what I'm not. I guess that means you're not good at anything either, right, and that nobody has any specific talents, that we're all exactly the same? I guess by your standards, the reason I'm not an accountant, composer, physicist, geneticist, mechanic, professional athlete, etc is for the simple fact that I just don't want to be or am too lazy to try, right? I mean, it couldn't possibly be b/c I'd fail at something I don't really have an underlying talent for or wouldn't enjoy, right? I mean, it's not like accountants are any better at math than the rest of us, or that musicians are any more musically inclined than the rest of us, or that professional athletes are all just as athletic as the rest of us.
Alright time out. You're both great posters here and obviously you don't and won't agree on this subject. No need to beat a dead horse. It's obvious what Todd thinks and it's obvious what others think as well. When everything is clear and minds still don't change that is when it's time to say "I don't agree but I respect your opinion" and walk away or change topics. Funny thing is even though Wake wasn't at the workouts, I bet he was working out 10x as hard on his own Side note: Dupree is there a reason when I see you I think of the Ravens? Or it is some weird association I made up somehow?
both. It's no different for me than it is someone who's great with numbers. It doesn't make me better than anyone, just as being great at math doesn't make that person any better or smarter overall for it. It just happens to be what I have a natural gift for. Other people are similarly talented; however I've been around environments conducive for developing it for a long time. It doesn't hurt that I'm in the autistic spectrum and have Aspergers. Besides the obvious mental abilities of the disorder, it caused me to spend my entire life watching and reading others b/c people with Aspergers have difficulties in the basic elements of social interactions b/c we lack the ability to fully understand and express emotional reciprocity, and we lack the innate ability to fully pick up on nonverbal cues in communication. Basically, face to face communication can be hard for us b/c we lack the natural ability to make it work without it seeming like a chore to do so. So without even realizing it, I've been studying the crap out of human behavior since I was probably in my teens. Just b/c I lack the innate ability to do small talk and function well in social situations, it doesn't mean I can't learn to read people like a book to compensate for it by simply watching & observing people and learning as much about human behavior as possible. Spanish might not be my native language, but it doesn't mean I can't study and learn it, right. So I studied psychology in school, did as much side reading as I could, and forced myself to take a job waiting tables early in college (despite the idea of it frightening me b/c Asperger people frequently have social anxiety disorder and are often scared to death to speak in public), and in doing so I learned that I was actually good at reading people and had a gift for it. Now I can often piece together stuff about a person the same way a mechanic can look at a pile full of parts, quickly see the finished product, and really understand what it is. It came in quite handy in sales. It's just from everything I read about him, his interviews, watching him play, and from putting into perspective what he went through to get where he was at, how that shaped him, and also the type of person he had to be in order to endure that process and push himself through it. Some people are harder to read than others, but in Cam's case, he seemed quite easy to me. If you're 24 and already think you have a gift for it, then you likely do, but it takes a while of working at it to really develop it. At your age, I knew that I understood things about people in ways that many didn't, but I didn't really know what the hell it was or how I did it, nor did I understand why everyone was constantly coming to me for advice. It took me years to really understand it and hone it, but I was in jobs where I was constantly able to interact with people and where my success was dependent upon how well I read them. Sorry for diverting the thread.
Yes! I was the Lions. I had all the ****ty players that had ridiculous stats. I kept losing in the NFC Championship to Aboome and his defensive glitches!
That was fun. I really enjoyed the season where we had 23 real players. I am really surprised we got through it and then held a draft with 22 of them.
why we should sign Cam wake to a 4 year contract.. 1.. ''Wake led all NFL linebackers with 81 combined quarterback pressures, hits, and sacks last season. Due just $615,000, Wake is wildly underpaid for his performance level entering his age-30 season....PFF....They should start to add holding calls to that list, that would put him at +1 overall. 2}..He's 6'3.. 250 LBS.. has a 46 inch vert, has tracked down many legit 4.4 running backs in the flat and from behind, can play the run very well, and does it all all at 6 to 8 percent body fat because of his insane work ethic..
You cannot win in the NFL today with a pass-rush. pay the old man. add a rookie pass-rusher in the 2nd round
I can't see trading Wake. We're already short pass rushers on the team, and will likely draft one fairly high. Why would we trade away the one guy we know we can depend on for a question mark? Wake gives 100% every down, and 30 is not that old. A four year contract seems just about right.
J The thing is there had already been rumors how we would need to free up some more salary cap to resign him to the money he wants. A team in our situation shouldn't be freeing up salary cap to sign a 31 year old DE. I love wake I just think it would be more beneficial for us to pick up some extra draft picks that we could sign for a longer length of time and for cheaper.
Your logic hurts my heart a little. The only aurgument that could be had against that is his leadership and work ethic for the new guys.
While it looks bad this season, Miami is an amazing cap space next season, where righ tnow they only have 67 million dollars committed. Which will leave Miami to keep all the veterans they want to keep while enough room to make a splash in free agency if they want.
That's cool. Anybody else wondering where the cap space is coming from? Long deal imminent as well? Player set to be traded next Thursday?
don't agree at all, he's 30, and he's excellent, and he's the biggest freak in the Nfl, dude is a legit star, you don't get rid of great football players.
Cam Wake is Ireland's baby, some of you projecting to get rid of the best pressure player in the game, what the hell is the matter with ya.?, not gonna happen, shouldn't happen.
You know what kind of players you get rid of, Mario Williams, average production, overrated, and overpaid., cam wake, underrated, highly productive and underpaid.
I've been waiting for like 2 years to get his jersey Waiting for that long-term deal. And now I'm still waiting to see what else nike puts out and if we make any decent changes to them.
nobody is saying he isnt a legit dude but the state of franchise right now (horrible, laughing stock joke) dictates that we clean house and let philbin build a team. our cap situation has to change
I don't know why some posters want to exaggerate facts like a players age to validate their point, even if it is only a year.
There's no doubt that Wake is one of the better pass rushers now, but at 30 yrs old and only having 2 seasons behind him for a resume (the first was as a PT role player), extending his contract now isn't prudent. We have the ability to keep him for 3 more seasons...this coming year under contract, and two yrs on the franchise tag...that would pay him for his ability for those two years. By that time, he'll be 33 yrs old and we can then decide to re-sign him or let him walk. From a fiscal point, it's almost an ideal situation for the Fins... We don't have the luxury of extending him at this point. Not only from the fiscal view, but what that says to other players...he's was only 1 1/2 sacks better than a mediocre year for JT last season ?? I don't see an issue if they choose to go this way with him...
IMO Wake is one of the best pass rushers in the league and should remain that way for at least the next three years. I think you put him on a four or five year deal you can get out of after three or four years (if necessary) and it's a win.
