Nope, but he sure could of pulled one out of the 2008 draft. He deserves everything he gets from the fans, and should continue to be made into a laughing stock until he does something, anything, positive for this franchise that results in wins.

Parcells had final say in the 2008 draft. I've read that Ireland wanted Ryan, but Parcells overruled him.

You're so lost in this conversation it's a bother to keep setting you straight. YOU put words in my mouth by claiming that I said Parcell's philosophy was to take linemen in the first round. I responded by saying I never said anything about rounds, as in which round Parcells takes his lineman. Which I didn't. You put those words in my mouth. The only thing I said about Parcell's philosophy was that he likes to build up the lines. Not anything about rounds. I didn't say anything about rounds until I was forced to defend myself from you and FinD attempting to put words in my mouth.

Carl Peterson was only actually, hands-on involved in the 2012 coaching search, and even then he was limited to Jeff Fisher.

I never said it happens in public, I said it happens all the time. And it absolutely does. It's so ridiculously routine in the NFL that it's like complaining about refs not calling traveling in the NBA.

That wasn't the point of Gator Day. Again, you grossly exaggerate.

I agree that there was time to find a competent GM, but we'll have to save that for next season.

He was still involved in football operations, no matter what capacity it was in. When Ireland gets fired, if Peterson wants back in the NFL, there should be cause for concern. Hopefully Peterson doesn't want back in, for our sake.

Of course it happens. Only a bozo allows it to go public and become a complete embarrassment for the team however.

Whether or not that was the point doesn't matter. The point was to sell the tickets. It still ended up as a celebration for the opposing QB, with lots of Tebow/Bronco fans buying tickets. Remember those loud Tebow chants? I do.

    Guess so.

I don't expect or care if you believe it. I read it. Maybe somewhere on this forum. Even if you find it doubtful, Ireland didn't have final say on the 2008 draft picks.

I remember reading that as well. It was generally known that Parcells had final say but that he only used it on a few picks each year. The only ones we know were Parcells' picks were Long and White.

That still doesn't mean Ireland didn't agree with it. Still waiting on this link. Wouldn't mind seeing what some of his biggest apologists have to say since many still believe Long was the right pick (lol). But I'm quite sure that link won't happen.

Geez, you are stubborn when it comes to listening to others. Every person on the planet agreed that Long was a top 2-3 pick that year, so if Parcells overruled him, Ireland would have a hard time not going along with it since he was still getting HOF talent with Long. plus, the fact that their plan was to target someone like Chad Henne in the 2nd round, their plan made perfect sense. The fact that Henne never lived up to expectations is the unfortunate part. However, we draft Tannehill, and he becomes a top 10 QB, then Long was still the right decision.

Where's the link to any of your points?

    You've claimed:

    - Ireland was fine with taking Long over Ryan. I guess you think this because Ireland didn't demand his boss do what he thought? I dunno, either way...
    Link?

    - Pouncey was a pick reminiscent of a Parcells pick. Even though Parcells never took a center that high when he had control, sooooooo....
    Link?

Let's start with those two. Where's your links?

IMO Long was the right pick. I don't cite the reports at the time to defend Ireland as I believe that Ryan (Ireland's choice) would have been the wrong pick . I do feel those reports counter the unsupported perception that Ireland doesn't value the QB position.

Peterson has a full plate and also doesn't want back into the NFL in the same type of capacity he had before.

I also love how everybody says Peterson sucks. Most people don't realize that the Chief's of the 1990's (Peterson was GM for them from 1988-2008) was the winningest team in the NFL. No, they didn't win a championship, but do GM's coach or do they bring in talent that wins? Peterson was one of the most succesful GM's in NFL history.

That still doesn't mean he DID either.

You're the one crucifying him, not us; therefore it's YOUR responsibility to show why he deserves the criticism. The burden of proof is on you. We don't have to do crap.
So far you haven't proven anything. All you've done is throw out lots of conjecture and accusations of basically guilt by association.

Your case wouldn't even make it to court. A judge would throw it back at you and tell you to stop wasting his time.

    We're going in circles.

It's not like Ross sent a press release saying he was going to interview Jim Harbaugh. Darlington and Volin were tracking his plane.

So Ross is to blame for the actions of the fans?

I don't think I ever said he did, but he probably did, which can be concluded using common sense. Jeff Ireland loves drafting lineman high in the draft. He doesn't know the first thing about franchise QB's, as that's not a part of his outdated philosophy. So logically, he probably was all for Jake Long.

I never said taking a Center that high was reminiscent of a Parcells pick. You put those words in my mouth. I said building up the lines was a Parcells philosophy, which Ireland quite clearly agrees with, by taking a lineman in the top half of the draft for the first time in 14 years. Unfortunately for us, unlike Parcells who could find said linemen outside of the first round, we have a bad GM who needs to take the absolute best prospect to have any chance at succeeding to find one.

3 straight losing seasons. All the proof I need. Whether he was making decisions, or bringing Parcell's his coffee in the mornings. He's been useless, and collecting paychecks he doesn't deserve.

I don't agree with this thinking. I don't care about what paychecks he got. I care about whether he can do his job and help this team going forward. Ross and the people in the organization know what he did and didn't contribute. They would not be so simplistic. They wouldn't fire the guy who brought the coffee b/c of three straight losing seasons. They would probably look at his evaluations and the picks and decisions he pushed for during that time and make a judgment based on that.

Never in that post did I say that was a Parcells move because Parcells drafts lineman in the first round. You came to that conclusion yourself. I suppose I could of added something about building up the lines being a Parcells philosophy. But then again I also explained that in several other posts and figured you had the common sense to keep up. I was mistaken.

Not only did Pouncey represent an elite prospect at his position (an important one to boot), but there is also the fact that there's something like an 88% success rate for centers/guards taken in the first round. That's remarkably high, almost 20% higher than the next 2 closest positions, CB & LB (excluding offensive tackle). Considering we were short a second rounder and likely entered the draft with the mentality of trading up if necessary, we HAD to make sure that 1st rounder was a hit.

To complain about selecting Pouncey, especially after watching his twin brother tear it up for the Steelers, is completely asinine to the 10th degree. Perhaps you watch too much arena football and simply don't understand how important winning the battle of the trenches is.

Just stop. You said it was Parcells move because it was top 15 pick. How is that not the first round?

You flat out say Ireland made a Parcells move by selecting Pouncey. That's fact and I proved it. I also proved that isn't a Parcells move.

We get it. You're cool because you hate Ireland. Kudos. However, don't come here and stink up the forum with this crap. You said what you said and it was wrong, get over it, but don't lie because thats cheap and weak.

I know how easy it is for other teams to find those guys in the trenches out of the first round. I also know how interior OL aren't 1/100 the importance of Franchise QB's, offensive playmakers, pass rushers, CB's and playmaking safeties. And yes, I'm well aware of the success rate. Safe and mediocre. That's how Jeff rolls. And I never once complained about selecting Pouncey. I clearly said numerous times it wasn't a bad pick. He was near BPA for that pick because of how weak the draft was.

I've stated over and over in this thread that building up the trenches first and foremost is a Parcells philosohpy. It's nobody's fault but yours you allow your Ireland Apologist/Dolphins homer agenda to get in the way of reading comprehension. If you don't like my opinion, I'd recommend hitting that red X in the right upper-hand corner of your computer screen. I'm going to keep providing my opinion on this matter until the day that I'm unfortunately right in the end like I've been regarding most matters with this team the last few years like Henne, Henning, and Sparano.

The second half of your post greatly contradicts the first half.

This part would be wrong by the way since we're talking specifically about the Pouncey pick and center. :wink2:

Some of top Centers in the NFL:
    Nick Mangold. 1st rounder
    Maurkice Pouncey. 1st rounder.
    Alex Mack. 1st rounder.
    Eric Wood. 1st runder.

Then you have 2nd rounders like Ryan Kalil, Andre Gurode, and Max Unger.

Recently though, the trend is--- if you want a great center, you basically gotta take him in the first round or early 2nd.

Wow, I'm sure in your own little world, you felt like you were going out on a limb in your Henning and Sparano debates, but you weren't. Guess I will pull an R&R and hope than Ireland does a decent job so we can rub it in.
