I think we will miss Y.Bell but lets face it.We are in the rebuilding mode and expensive veterans are a luxury we cant afford. We are not going to the SB anytime soon

Who knows, maybe we resign Bell later on to a better cap number. Just because we cut Bell and signed this guy, doesn't mean he is automatically taking Bells spot.

Shhhhhhhhhhh. Our owner and coach say we're not in re-building mode. You think a team that signs primo FA's like Richard Marshall and Artis Hicks is in re-building mode?! C'MON THAT'S CRAZY HAHA

I don't agree that we're in rebuilding mode. I think there's a certain amount of turnover whenever you install a new coach who's bringing in a new system. The only big name we lost/got rid of is Marshall. I see that as primarily due to Philbin's philosophy about what he wants in his WRs. You'll see the same kind of turnover on the OL since Philbin prefers smaller, more mobile players there. Bell was a guy that we all presumed was at least a potential cap casualty before the season ended since his cap number was so huge. Then we re-signed Soliai and are looking to lock up Long and Wake. 30% roster turnover is basically the norm for most teams in the league. In rebuilds you dump all your big contract guys and start over. Indy is clearly doing that this year as there are reports that they're shopping Freeney along with all of their cuts.

So getting rid of your #1 WR, leading tackler and most of your O-Line isn't re-building? Getting a new coach usually means you're re-building by default, no?

No, getting a new coach means there's turnover. Rebuilding means that your dumping all your best players and starting over. Bell would probably have been cut even without a new coach. He was simply making too much money for his level of production. If we were rebuilding then we would have ben trying to trade Long, Wake and Dansby and cutting guys Incognito. I actually had expected Incognito to be gone as I don't see him as mobile, but him being kept despite his high salary makes it clear that Philbin is expecting to compete. I imagine that they must be holding on to him at least until they see if some other OL in camp looks good enough to replace him.

I still would like to see Bell resign at a more reasonable price he might be getting some age but he is one hell of a player.

I think you might be confusing rebuilding with FIRE SALE, which is what the Colts are doing. You can re-build without demolishing the entire foundation in this case. Either way, it's all moot until the Dolphins hit on a QB.

Most teams turnover their roster at about the same rate (or more) as Miami is doing on a regular basis. In fact, I saw a stat a few years back that pegged the average yearly roster turnover at about 30%. Your definition of "rebuild" is what most teams do on average every year.

I understand what you're saying about turnover rate, I'm saying most teams don't trade/cut the guys the Dolphins have this offseason. Not their #1 WR and leading tackler. Now, if they had depth to replace those guys, it'd be a different story. You have to look deeper than just the numbers.

They could when your #1 receiver isn't putting up #1 type numbers and your leading tackler was an old safety.

Most teams #1 WR aren't as ******ed as Brandon Marshall and being paid $10 mil a year while facing another suspension.

Oh boy, not the Marshall debate again. We'll see what type of numbers our #1 WR puts up this year.

Either way, if you saw ANY other team do what the Dolphins have done AND hire a new coach AND look for a QB you'd say they were ______ ?

So what are you saying then? We should just deal with all Marshall's bull**** while we overpay him for a subpar job?

And why? Oh because most WRs are difficult

I'm not talking about Marhsall. This is what happens when you jump into a thread just to argue with me. You missed my original point. WHY Marshall was traded has nothing to do with the fact that I believe the Dolphins are re-building.

I see Incognito as more mobile than people here give him credit for. When he went through the combine, he ran a 4.84 forty @ 305 lbs

At this point we are replacing 2 of 5 starters. That does not equal a majority or most of the OL.

I disagree. They would trade the #1 WR if the coach philosophically preferred not have a guy that got the bulk of the catches. And they would cut the leading tackler if he had a huge salary cap number and the new DC preferred a S who was more versatile in terms of coverage. Coyle runs more of a split S system than a SS/FS system. You need to look deeper than just the titles (#1 WR and leading tackler).
