With the 40th pick the Carolina Panthers are proud to select...

    Jerel Worthy, DT, Michigan St!!

Worthy was a guy we had our eye on way back in rd 1. We opted to pass on a DT at the time because of the number of players we liked at the position, and because of how highly we thought of Michael Floyd. However, we are stoked that Worthy fell down to our pick. He should provide some much needed talent to our DT group and will hopefully put some fire to the rear of our other youngsters McClain and Fua. We really feel like Worthy has the talent to be dominant in all areas, we just have to be sure he puts it all together consistently.

With the 46th pick, the Pittsburgh Steelers select: Alfonzo Dennard - CB - Nebraska

NFL scouts thought they were going to Nebraska to see one top corner prospect, Prince Amukamara, but wound up seeing two. Dennard's tough play across from the All-American made it difficult for opposing quarterbacks to find options outside, and helped the Cornhuskers rank fifth in the country in pass defense in 2010.

He got on the field as a true freshman, making 12 tackles, then started out his sophomore season the team's top reserve corner before earning starts the final nine games and accumulating 31 tackles, four for loss, and eight pass break-ups. Dennard stood out enough as a junior (four interceptions, seven pass breakups) that Big 12 coaches voted him second-team all-conference.

Dennard was already a very talented player, but new Nebraska defensive backs coach Corey Raymond (a former NFL defensive back himself) helped Dennard improve his technique in 2011. Adding better footwork and hands to prevent receivers from coming off the line to his ball skills and tenacity outside could push Dennard into Amukamara's territory again -- he was selected 19th overall last April by the New York Giants.

Man Coverage: Physical player, tough to get off the line against and willing to mix it up downfield. Fluid hips and good short-area to stay with receivers after initial move. Solid if playing off the line, as well, quick feet allow him to catch up to receivers if failing to get a hand on them initially. Deep speed and recovery speed are average, adding that to below-average height could spell trouble against playmaking NFL receivers downfield. Gets too physical at times, gets flagged for grabbing and holding.

Zone Coverage: Could flourish in zone systems due to closing speed and secure tackling ability. Jumps underneath and slants routes quite well, baiting quarterbacks to throw in his direction. Regularly stands straight up in his backpedal, which causes trouble transitioning when receivers stop their routes short.

Ball Skills: Breaks up passes with hits and by getting his hand on the ball before it arrives at his man. Make acrobatic interceptions by high-pointing or extending for throws, has excellent vertical jump to compensate for lack of height. Runs well with the ball in his hands, capable of winding his way through traffic to the end zone. Inconsistent adjusting to low throws.

Run Support: Often out on an island and not forced to support the run in 2010, but there's no issue with his physicality or willingness to stick his nose into the play. Showed capacity to attack screens and runs to his side as a sophomore, both cutting down and wrapping up ballcarriers reliably. Larger receivers can keep him from getting to the ball, though the effort to beat the block is there.

Tackling: Compact, strong build, tenacity and good closing speed make him a solid tackler on the edge. Rarely misses the tackle to stop receivers they catches passes in front of him in zone or when playing off. Wraps low and holds on to prevent yards after the catch. Good speed and angle gets him credited with tackles while ensuring ballcarriers get to the sideline.

Intangibles: Feisty player who asks to take on bigger number one receivers and likes to talk on the field. Earned more playing time as a junior due to better preparation. Missed most of two games in 2010 with a concussion. Played through a shoulder injury in 2009. Missed the first three games of the 2011 season with a right hamstring pull.

with the 47th pick the GB Packers select:

    Ronnell Lewis, OLB Oklahoma

Pass rush: A very good athlete who plays fast and accelerates quickly upfield. Plays with fluid quickness and sharp footwork. Struggles to shed once engaged and plays with very predictable hand use. Doesn't flash many secondary pass rush moves and has unrefined mechanics as a pass rusher -- can't simply rely on his natural ability at the next level.

Run defense: Keeps his eyes up and quickly locates the ball with good patience and overall awareness. Needs to develop better pre-snap recognition skills and anticipation. Plays hard on every snap, doing a nice job not giving up on the play and making tackles downfield in pursuit. Limited against the run at the line of scrimmage with a suspect base and overall anchor.

Explosion: Not a quick-twitch or sudden player and lacks an explosive first step with an inconsistent get-off. Possesses smooth change of direction skills and can make plays in any direction. Doesn't always play with the competitive fire teams seek in a pass rusher.

Strength: Naturally strong and always looking to finish. Plays physical and violent with aggressive hand use. Doesn't have great growth potential and might be maxed out physically.

Tackling: Reliable tackler in small areas. Strong hands to secure tackles and knock the ball out of the ballcarrier's grasp. Tight-hipped and will miss tackles in space.

Intangibles: Has a lot of raw ability and overall upside for the next level. Had only 14 starts at the collegiate level with underwhelming production. Never led the Sooners in tackles, tackles for loss or sacks. Undersized to play with his hand on the ground and might be limited to specific schemes -- lacks a natural position and was used in various spots over his collegiate career

Had some issues but is very talented and we blieve teh Packers have the leadership to steward this young athlete to reach his full potential

    Talent.

This kid is everything you want in the "modern day" TE, in the mold of an Aaron Hernandez and a Jermichael Finley...Green will be a matchup problem for the opposition. The Rams are high on 2nd year TE Lance Kendricks, but football is changing before our eyes and having players who present mismatches for the opposition is the emphasis.

The 6'6 237lb's with 10 1/8 hands will be asked to add about 10lbs of muscle to help him block at the next level, other than that we are having a hard time finding many flaws with Green.

Its a good day in Ram Land.

imo, the best pure cover corner in this draft. IDGAF about his size or speed. Dude has insane athleticism, coverage skills, and plays the run well. He'll groom nicely behind Grimes and Carr.

With the 60th pick in the GML draft the Denver Broncos select:

    Orson Charles - TE, Georgia

    Analysis

Release: Smaller than most tight ends and possesses short arms but has good upper-body strength to fight through an initial jam at the line of scrimmage and has the speed and athleticism to burn defenders for challenging him. Good burst off the snap to quickly slip past. Dips his shoulder to slip past the defensive end and shows a good rip to knock the linebacker's hands off him.

Hands: Reaches out to catch the ball away from his frame. Strong hands to pull down the contested reception. Has good hand-eye coordination and body control to turn and adjust to poorly thrown balls. Does struggle a bit tracking the ball over his shoulder and will turn back towards it and leap to catch rather than allowing it to float down to him, on occasion.

Route running: Good quickness off the snap. Very good speed for the position which he uses to attack down the seam well. Generates good burst out of his breaks to gain separation. His experience as a receiver in high school is obvious in how e uses shoulder fakes and varying his speed to get open. Used on a variety of routes as Georgia designed plays to get him the ball in space. Lined up next to both tackle as a traditional tight end, as well as in motion, as an H-back and split out in the slot. Has the burst off the snap to be split out wide in the NFL, as well.

After the catch: Good strength and effort to run through arm tackles. Good vision to set up his blocks and while he isn't quick enough to elude in tight quarters he can take advantage of a defender leaning to spring for additional yardage. Very good speed for the position. Has a second gear to accelerate that will make him a legitimate big play threat in the NFL. Has to do a better of keeping the ball tight to his body as he'll allow the ball to get poked out while fighting for extra yardage (Georgia Tech).

Blocking: Has obvious size limitations but might be the toughest pound for pound blocker among the 2012 crop of tight ends. Seems to enjoy the physical confrontation of blocking. Is willing to attack much bigger defenders with an explosive pop and good strength and competes to the whistle. Good effort at both stages on combo blocks. Looks to help out his teammates downfield. Was used as an H-back and even served as a lead fullback, on occasion.

Intangibles: Was among those listed by Miami booster Nevin Shapiro as players he had illegal contact with in an recruiting attempt for the Hurricanes … There were accusations of Charles accepting anything from Shapiro and he was not reprimanded by Georgia nor the NCAA … Named to the All-SEC Academic Honor Roll in 2009-10 … Voted a team captain as a junior in 2011 …

With the 61st pick, The Buffalo Bills select........... Josh Robinson, CB, Central Florida.

Buffalo is excited to compliment its imposing pass rush by adding the star of the combine to its secondary.
We didn't expect a borderline 1st round prospect to fall this far so the selection was easy, and Robinson's addition gives our secondary the ability to be more versatile and flexible scheme-wise considering we have some corners and safeties capable of playing multiple positions.

There's already some young, developing, up and coming talent at cornerback with Justin Rogers, Buster Skrine, and Jimmy Wilson, but that wasn't enough of a deterrent to pass on the talented Robinson.

With the 67th overall pick, the Minnesota Vikings select Mitchell Schwartz, OL, California. Mitchell is the brother of Geoff and is smart as well as versatile. He's played both tackle spots at Cal and came out of high school as a guard. At the Senior Bowl, he stepped in at center due to injury and did well. I feel that he has better foot quickness than he's given credit for.

With the 69th Selection in the 2012 GM Leage Draft, the Cleveland Browns select …

    Demario Davis, LB, Arkansas State

The early third round is a tough spot to pick in. You're either left reaching for guys who have fallen due to various concerns, like injury or character, or reaching for guys that other folks have never heard of. Demario Davis may be one of those guys, but quite frankly, we really don't care.

What we like about Davis, aside from his violent tendancies, is the fact that we can play him at any of the LB spots. We're always looking for guys who can offer us versatility and allow us to disguise defenses, and we feel like we got another in Davis. For now the plan is to plug him straight into the WOLB spot, where we feel like he can really excel.

Teams are going to learn very quickly not to run at this dude, because he will absolutely destroy anyone and anything that crosses his path. It's been a while since I've seen such an aggressive tackler, though with Davis I never get the impression that he's playing out of control - it's violent, rough, but always calculated.

Oh, and by the way, he runs a 4.5 40. Yeah. So good luck running away from him.

While we're gushing about him, go ahead and check out the highlight film. Count the decleaters. Go on. I'll wait.

The scary thing is that film is from July 2011, so it doesn't even include any of the damage he did as a senior.

And of course, the requisite scouting report, this one courtesy of National Football Post:

We're very excited to add Davis to an already outstanding group of linebackers, where we feel he can immediately step in and make a difference for us.

Titans, with the 71st pick in the GML draft, select:

    DE Cam Johnson, Virginia

As you can see from the video below, he's got great balance and size for the position. I really like the way he gets off the snap. I think he's got ability there. He's got some stuff to work on, leverage wise, but you can't teach his natural ability. I really did some research on the defensive ends in this draft and I agree with NFP that Cam should be rated higher than where most draft experts have him. 4th DE sounds about right. And I'm excited to have him here at this pick! The Titans will rotate him in immediately.

The Colts are thrilled to bring Brandon Boykin to their defense as he was a prospect they projected to go in the first 50 selections. We feel that Boykin has potential to be a great NFL cornerback but will definitely be eased into the line-up to further develop his skills. Boykin will look to compete with Jason Allen and Cortez Allen for the nickel cornerback role on the Indianapolis Colts as well as be the team's primary returner. Boykin is simply an outstanding athlete and the Colts are very happy to have him on their squad.

with the 78th pick, the Packers select:

    Mychal Kendricks, ILB California

    Overview

A three-year starter, Marvin Mychal Kendricks was a three-star running back/linebacker recruit, choosing California over Oregon, Oregon State and Fresno State. He saw limited action in 2008 as a back-up linebacker as a true freshman, recording 15 tackles, 1.0 tackle for loss and 1.0 sack. Kendricks earned more playing time in 2009 as a sophomore with 8 starts (3 inside and 5 outside), finishing with 71 tackles, 6.0 tackle for loss, 1.0 sack, 1 forced fumble, 1 interception (returned for a score) and 2 fumble recoveries.

He became a full-time starter at outside linebacker in 2010 as a junior (13 starts), recording 66 tackles with a team-best 15.0 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks and 3 fumble recoveries, earning Second Team All-Pac 10 honors. Kendricks moved to inside linebacker in 2011 as a senior (11 starts), finishing with a team-best 106 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks, 2 interceptions and 2 fumble recoveries, earning Pac 12 Defensive Player of the Year, All-American and First Team All-Pac 12 honors.

Kendricks' father was a productive running back at UCLA in the '70s, twice leading the Bruins in rushing. He quickly earned playing time at the college level and proved to be the heart of Cal's defense, showing his versatility at both inside and outside linebacker, but projects inside at the next level. Kendricks isn't the biggest or most explosive and he needs to consistently finish and not let ballcarriers out of his grasp, but he is a heads up defender with a tenacious motor and good overall feel for the position -- one of, if not the best, senior inside linebackers in this draft class and looks like a borderline top-100 selection.

    ANAYLYSIS

Strengths: Has a filled-out frame with good thickness packed on his body. Plays at full speed at all times with an active motor and determined quickness in pursuit. Possesses functional strength with powerful hands, working hard to shed at the point of attack and is at his best against the run -- downhill defender and physical tackler. Uses his eyes well to decipher and break down the play, showing good awareness and discipline to not be fooled by fakes. Takes accurate angles with good closing burst, showing the footwork to work well in tight areas. Tough and strong and has earned the reputation as a high effort player. Has some versatility with starting experience at both inside and outside linebacker in Cal's 3-4 defensive scheme. Was productive in his three years as a starter and was the team's most decorated player in 2011, earning Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Weaknesses: Shorter than ideal with limited measureables and is too easily engulfed by blockers near the line of scrimmage. Needs to anchor better at the point of attack and was too often knocked backwards or off his feet. More of a straight-line athlete with some stiffness in his hips, lacking the smooth change of direction ability to quickly redirect. Slips off too many ballcarriers and needs to complete tackles -- will go for the big hit too often instead of consistently wrapping up. Has some durability concerns after a shoulder and thumb injury hampered him in 2011 -- wore a cast on his left hand for part of his senior season. Has some minor character concerns after he was suspended for parts of two different games for separate violations of team rules.
