Vick was suspended by the NFL. He was given a short leash when he was reinstated.

The punishment fits. He outright lied to Roger's face about it. The league has been telling teams for years that bounties won't be tolerated. They don't want the government getting involved (although the IRS still may).

    Well away from here
I think once the guy went to prison it became a little redundant to then punish him severely afterwards. It would almost be a little silly to see the Commissioner coming down on him with another year's suspension after the guy just spent time in prison. He did miss what half a season or 6 games or something where he couldn't participate in anything.

I can see what you're saying, but the whole 'prison' thing does make the circumstances a little bit different. He didn't get caught breaking a league rule, he broke the law first, and after it was found hat he broke the law did he then break a league rule. These guys broke a league rule first (I'm assuming that the authorities may be looking into some of this as they do with NHL issues that involve physical injury outside of the rules) and should the authorities then get involved, you may Goodell come off some of the suspensions etc, because again they'd really no longer be relevant when concerning a criminal matter.

Again, I see your point, but this may not be the best example to use as evidence to the point you're trying to make just due to circumstances involved. Citing Spygate and yeah the punishments are vastly different. The Patriots should have been punished more severely.

wasn't he suspended while in prison?

  7. Fair enough maybe I should of thrown a better example out there. My only point was that Godell has not been consistent in how he decides punishments and fines arounf the NFL.

and the NFL is not done yet...

The 22-27 defensive players are next... if they are still with the team, will they get suspensions and or fines???

NO will probably be using 3rd stringers and players from the Canadian Footbal league to play this year...

Is Juan Jauron (I think that was his name) still around???

You can be glad the Dolphins didn't get Fisher if you want to, but I still wish he was the HC of the Dolphins. Perhaps you missed it but, Fisher was not involved in this investigation, nor was he suspended for anything.
I have no doubt that Fisher will find a capable replacement for Williams and that the Rams will be a much better team in the future with him as the HC and player personnel director, than the Dolphins will be with Ireland making the player personnel decisions for the Dolphins.

I have nothing against Philbin, but he was not the Dolphins first choice, Fisher was. I would trade Philbin for Fisher any day of the week, if trading HC was permitted.

Jeff Fischer is a completely over rated coach in my opinion and I never ever ever wanted him within 1000 feet of this team. What part of his career 142-120 coaching record screams success to anyone?

You are certainly entitled to your opinion of Fisher as a HC. I just happen to disagree with you. I feel the Rams will be a better team with Fisher as their HC over the next 3-4 years than the Dolphins will be with Philbin over this same time period.

Can the bounty thing be considered a criminal offense? or does the NFL have its own jurisdiction now.

I'm not sure about criminal cases but it certainly could be a factor in civil litigation. From what I've read there are many cases on the docket by ex-players trying to seek damages for injuries incurred during their careers. If they could prove another team was intentially trying to end their career a jury could easily deem that as malicious. IMO Goodell had no choice but to come down hard on the Saints after warning them the year before.

I just read that Warren Sapp has accused Shockey as the whistle blower.

I'm not saying I don't respect anyones opinion, if that is what you believe then that is fine and you could be right. I personally love the Philbin hiring and think he will have a pretty successful coaching career. He was my choice out of our final three guys.

Last year it was the CBA... No camp...no preseason...a long list of minor injuries like pulled ham strings

Now it's just full of drama....I don't know if Goodell is doing a good job.

WOW I hope there isn't going to be any back lash towards Shockey from Saints players. They better not be labeling him a snitch. Shockley did a good thing there.

Goodell is keeping the game we love at minimum 'respectable'. At the max hes sending a message and improving the game. Get off his back.
    Still wish he had banned
Billicheat but you can't touch the Marlon Brando of the NFL. It's all about 'family' in a dodgy Italian accent.

Does anyone else think that with all of this scandal in new orleans that brees and the saints can be sort of vulnerable for a big trade? just saying haha

Seems a bit harsh imo, im not really into making someone overly suffer to make a statement and put people on notice.

Im kinda wondering why the NFLPA is so quiet on this? was it not Brees that signed on to the lawsuit with Brady during the lockout. They were fighting for player safety, less practices, no pads etc.. Brees knew what was going on in NO (and while think its part of the game within reason) i find it kinda hypocritical imo. Hard to broach this subject without moving to POFO. Typical

Edit: I bring this up because, we are gonna have alot of talk when player penalties come out also. The coaches are to be blamed of course they lead the team, but the players executed the offenses, or turned a blind eye. Theres alot of blame to go around.

While I disagree with a lot of the opinions on this forum, I certainly respect the right of everyone to express their own views on every topic discussed on this forum. I am certainly open to giving Philbin the opportunity to show that he can be an effective HC in the NFL. While my first choice for the position was Fisher, I certainly hope Philbin is a success because that will mean the team I root for will finally be headed in the right direction for a chance.

My problem with the organization certainly isn't with Philbin, since he was just hired. It is now and has been for the last two years, Ireland. I just feel Ireland is not suited to be an NFL GM and nothing he has done since he has been with the Dolphins has convinced me that he has a clue. He has been responsible for far more bad draft selections and bad free agent signings over the last four years than he has good draft selections and good free agent signings. The Dolphins record since he became the teams GM proves this to be true.

The short answer to your question is, "NO", Brees isn't going anywhere.
