What would have to happen for Jeff Ireland to be fired?

WE FINALLY SIGN A STARTING CALIBER FREE SAFETY after 3 years of that being a huge need.

But we then need to cut our starting Strong Safety.

 

I have been calling for the firing of Ireland since the end of the 2010 season. So this isn't something I thought of just because of all the recent turmoil going around the Dolphins organization at this time.
As far as Philbin is concerned. There is absolutely no way anyone can know at this time what type of head coach he will be since he has NEVER been a HC at any level of football before.

You can be as patience as you want to. I on the other hand have seen all I need to see from Ireland and the sooner the Dolphins get rid of him, the better.

Perhaps you need to check the record on Garrard. He was never anything but a mediocre starter for the Jaqs and they drafted a QB in the first round of last years draft because they wanted to replace him. If Garrard and Moore are the best this FO can do to upgrade the QB play on this team, next year is going to be a very long year for Dolphin fans. Of course with only 30,000 season tickets sold for the games next year, all those fans at the game should have plenty of room to sit back and relax.

 

I don't think Marshall informed the FO that he woud be punching a woman in the face. The Bell cut was a surprise being as late as it was, but something unexpected must have come up. Are you privy to all the goings on in Dolphin land right now? If you are please share.

 

Yep, they signed Garrard to a 1 year, low price "perform or don't get paid" contract and you think that's their solution? What FA QB's did you want to over pay? Flynn? Obviously Philbin didn't think he was worth the $26 + mil. Smith? Please!

And again, I must have missed the draft becasue from some of the posts around here the Dolphins will be doing nothing else in free agency or the draft.

Yes, the imperative word here is "cutting people". I don't think you realize how often teams are stuck with guys they don't want because they can't even cut them.

Could you imagine being forced to start Marc Colombo in 2012 because his contract dictated it? Welcome to the world of the NYJ.

Also, I'm not sure how we were capped out in 2011. We were ~$10M under the cap.

 

No, but I can imagine signing Marc Colombo to be your starting RT, when everybody with a brain knew he was among the worst Tackles in the NFL. or was that Sparano's fault too?

 

Who knows whos fault it is. And this would be a great argument if someone were proclaiming Ireland to have a perfect record. You would be hard pressed to find a team that doesn't have at least one **** lineman on it.

 

It affects the TALENT on the team adversely.

Cutting good players because you don't have the money to pay them is a problem.

No. David Harris is not good anymore. He should be a backup somewhere.

I don't agree that losing those guys was necessarily a big hit. Langford's production won't be hard to replace because we have a lot of talent on that unit. I don't think Bell fits the scheme necessarily, as they like to flip the safeties a lot. Marshall is a different story, and you could argue the team will be better off without his issues with teammates.

Either way these aren't issues with the salary cap. Had the Dolphins wanted to fit all these guys, they could easily just restructure contracts. But that would be detrimental to the future, and very Jets-eque.

Sure they do. You just don't pay attention to them. Also, and as another poster brought up (sorry I can't remember their screenname) with twitter, facebook and things like that it's happening even more.

 

So, how many wins will this talent laden, on the rise, competitive, incompent-coaching-free roster get us this year?

I have no idea. However, I'll wait until I do find out before I place blame on someone for doing something that hasn't even been done.

I give him both credit and blame equally.

I don't know about this whole protest thing but I do understand peoples frustrations with him. He is having a poor looking FA period. He has given up more then he has gotten.

FTR I think the Garad signing is an indication that we are going with Matt Moore as our starter. I think Philbin is going to take a year of grooming him and see how he looks and if he does not excel then he will either draft or sign someone else. Its probably a pretty safe move on his part considering the enormous pressure the fan base is putting on this guy to develope a QB. Despite all the arguments against more he did go on a winning streak at the end. Philbin may want to build off of that and see what he can accomplish with more coaching. Heres the rub for Philbin if Moore fails to meet the fans expectations next season. Philbin can simply say he did the best with what he was given to work with and then make some grand speech about aggresivly searching for a QB that will fit his offense. If they would of signed Flynn and he struggled like Cassle for instance. then fans would crucify the guy. Philbin is smart to stay away from Flynn if he has doubts about the guy. JMO of course but that how I kind of see things with our QB situtation. I really do not think they are going to draft a QB this year unless maybe its real late like 7 or 8 round to compete with devlin.

 

I have NO inkling to expect that based on his track record.

Well this year's draft would have to pass first of all - it would be pretty stupid to let your GM go a month before it.

Secondly, you'd have to wait and see exactly how the season plays out after the offseason. It doesn't matter how stupid what he has done this offseason looks to people now, what matters is the eventual outcome. What if the team ends up surprising everyone again like in '08? What if Garrard has an amazing comeback season or Matt Moore breaks out? What if some of the younger talented players on this roster finally come into their own? What if Manning goes down injured in week one and Matt Flynn is the second coming of Kevin Kolb? And if Fisher does nothing to improve St. Louis and they end up in the top 5 of the draft again? We don't know what'll happen yet.

Basically, I don't think you can or should fire him until you at least get a taste for the outcome of his work. We all have our opinions but nothing has been proved just yet.

I suppose the removal of Parcell's influence halfway through took accountability off Ireland's shoulders for the first two years.

As for these last two seasons, you've pretty much got to give a GM time to actually build a roster; a three year plan. And this is the last year.

 

Wrong Weeden is real good but you could be right that he may not be enough to rekindle fan hope. I think if you want to increase attendance would be if you could take Weeden and add two wr's that can turn into studs.

I WOULD BET THAT IF MIAMI were to manover and get two big time wide receivers then that may be enough to draw more people to the stadium.

if miami is counting on Matt Moore David Girrard , brian Hartline andDevone Bess to put butts in the seats and win then they are dumber then I could ever imagined.
