First of all, if it's not obvious, I'm a Lions fan. However, I watch every game of every week. Typically I watch 3 Sunday games normal speed with commentary, plus the SNF, plus the MNF, and the rest of the games I do DirecTV Shortcuts. I watched Matt Moore last year and I really don't know why everyone thinks he's a complete non-option at QB. I understand that Manning would have been an upgrade. I understand that another option was to tear everything down and start over. And if that's the case, I can see why you want a new QB. But what I don't understand is why Alex Smith or David Gerrard (sp?) is a better option than Moore. Moore is a solid QB in my opinion. Despite being undrafted, he was the best QB in his draft. I put him above Kolb. I think that if Moore had been drafted where Kolb was, then the perception of Moore would be a lot different, and your organization would be willing to build around him. Also, for what it's worth, I used him in my fantasy league last year in my championship game, since he was playing the poor NE defense, and won my first ever fantasy title. Of course having Megatron didn't hurt So could you all tell me your thoughts on Moore? I'm curious what you all think.
I don't think Ireland needs to be taught how, he's probably very capable of that. If it happens, maybe you guys can draft a Matt Stafford like we did. However, please try to stick to the topic. Thanks.
I'm a Moore supporter, I think we're looking for some big name to put buts in the seats. Good to hear another perspective, thanks for posting
Moore was 5-5 and is what he is, a stop gap between getting a franchise QB. Along come Lireland who says QB is the #1 priority and he does......nothing. He'll probaly say they'll get their future QB in the draft which is a roll of the dice at #8 and I'm sure he'll stock up on 2nd, 4th & 6th round QB's. Some will argue he was smart and did not overpay or that Philbin felt Flynn wasn't the right fit. I guess if the house is burning there is no reason to waste the water to put it out when it will go out itself.
No you were understood perfectly and are already on my **** list. Thanks to the non-trolls responding, good to hear some insight.
I think that Matt Moore falls right along Joey Harrington in the annals of Dolphin QB history. Average, with flashes of above average. If Philbin wants to work with Matt Moore, great! Now we get to see if Philbin, Sherman and Taylor can coach him up.
Harrington was average for you guys? He ****ing shredded us in the Thanksgiving Day game. I guess that must be the above average you mentioned.
All due respect you must not be a big fan of your Lions as Joey "Heisman" Harrington was the 2002 Lions 1st rounder, #3 overall pick. Lasted from 2002-2005. I would think that you would know more about him than just 1 game "shredding" in 2006
Oh, how I loved that game! There was nothing better for me running through Ford Field laughing at Lions fans that Harrington just beat them! When looking at Matt Moores performance down the stretch, sure we had a winning record, and his stats look decent, but... we didnt really play the greatest of competition down the stretch either. My issue, is we can improve on him. There were upgrades available, either its FA, or in the draft. The guys track record isnt that great, just because of a few good games against some teams that were just as bad as us, if not worse... doesn't mean we should be putting all our faith in him. He made some nice throws, but some bigtime boneheaded mistakes too... Nowhere near sold on him at this point... But thats just my opinion...
It is nice to hear an outsiders perspective. Moore had his best games against poor competition, which is probably the way most average QB's perform. Something that doesn't show up in some metrics are his fumbles and how he panicked/froze in the face of a good pass rush. Our OLine was terrible, (from LT to RT...no exceptions), and our weapons are average to poor. M Moore is OK. He won't embarrass your franchise, but he also won't lead you to the Superbowl. How about Matt Moore and one of the thirds from the B Marshall trade for Stafford And Megtron ? I will throw in the rights to Marco Columbo and an almost new Steve Ross bobblehead.
Hold on let me get this straight. I express surprise that he was average for you guys, and I mention the one time he played my Lions, and you make that comment? Like I somehow don't know he played for my team and was a bust? With all due respect your post is moronic.
The reality of the situation is that the Dolphins are in another 3-4 year rebuilding program now, after spending the last 4 years of what was suppose to be a rebuilding process. The FO just doesn't want the few fans who still support them to realize this by coming out and stating the obvious. Moore will likely be the starter next year, not because he is really a quality starter but because he is the best option at this time.Since all the better options wanted nothing to do with this organization and Ireland wasn't willing to do what was necessary to trade up to be able to select RG3. Ireland will probably waste a high draft choice to select a QB in the draft who will once again come in and be a complete failure. As a Lions fan, you should certainly understand how an inept GM can prevent an organization from moving forward for years. Ireland is our Matt Millen. As long as he is the person responsible for selecting players for this team, the Dolphins will continue to regress as an organization. Moore is a quality backup QB who played well against the bottom tier teams in the NFL last year. He certainly didn't perform well when he was required to play against the better teams on the Dolphins schedule. He is NOT the QB I want to see the Dolphins build their team around. With him as the teams QB, the best the fans can expect is a continuation of the same mediocre records this team has posted for most of the past decade. Hopefully the Dolphins and the new GM next year will do whatever is necessary to select Matt Barkley in the 2013 draft. He is a QB I would love to see the Dolphins build their team around. As far as the Dolphins 2012 season is concerned, Moore should be good enough to lead the Dolphins to possibly another 6 win season, but I don't see them winning more than that. As far as you winning your fantasy league title last year based on the play of Moore against the Patriots. The rest of the players in your league must have had QB's who sat out the last game of the regular season or they had some terrible QB's on their fantasy league team. Because Moore was absolutely terrible in the second half of that Patriots game.
Sorry Dolphins fans, I can see there are a few intelligent members here, but there are unfortunately equally many trolls/idiots. My short stay has just been cut even shorter. See you guys in 2 years when we play @ Ford Field.
Wow another Lions fan, the best thing that could happen to this team though is complete meltdown this year going 2-14. Ireland would be fired, they would get there franchise QB and although it would be a long way back they could finally build a team like we did. The worst part about this gong into FA the Dolphins really only needed one piece but Ireland has run this team completely into the ground.
Lol what are you doing here? Also are you on Deb's forums by any chance? edit- thnkx for the perspective jw, although i wouldn't compare your Ireland to Millenface. At least not yet. :S
I consider the Dolphins my AFC team, I like to see em do well I guess and we only play once every 4 years. Dan being my favourite Qb of all time has something to do with it. I'm on the official DetroitLions.com message boards same name.
Most of us like MMoore, but he really doesn't fit well in Philbin's WCO... He's not quite accurate enough... Reads are completely different than the systems he's been in (as compared to WCO)....Still, I think he's better than Garrard...
No it wasn't. Unless you wanted Luck or want Barkley. Alas our D won't allow us to go winless. Thank flip we've at least got players who do their best. Give the Lions guy a fair crack. I'm interested see how crap we look in other fans eyes.
I think he was insinuating he wants Matt Barkley next year. That's how I read it at first. I dont' think it was trash talk. EDIT: Oops, you guys got it covered.
Matt Moore is just he place holder while Tannehill the draft target. Don't cry for Moore hes gettin $2mil a year to play a kids game.
Moore is stop gap #12 and counting ... we've be stuffing that gap with every retread the NFL has to offer since Marino retired
I just find it weird that Henne got every chance in the world but Moore won't be getting any chance at all. I'm guess 30% of you are OK with him staying?
He is what he is ... he won't get us to the playoffs. If we draft Tannehill, I have no issues with him holding down the fort until he is ready. But with our front office, he'll either get picked by the Browns or we'll pass on him
It's nice to see some Lions fans on the board. Of any NFL fans, Lions fans can relate to our pain and heartache.
hey Iron Lion i hope you guys go out and get a super bowl soon and please donttrade my prideand joy of a tightend to the jets please , my boy is Brandon Pettigrew hewill makeplays if he stays healthy.
We call him Petting Zoo, not sure why, I think it's because he has lots of drops, you know, as in droppings, as in at a petting zoo. He would be an elite TE if he didn't have the dropsies. He's the type of guy who can make the hardest, most clutch catches, but just drops easy catches too often. He was still great last year and got all the tough yards in lieu of our absent running game.
only to pass up on matt ryan... we need 0-16 now so we can get barkley and move on with our lives at qb since we decided to win 6 games this season. haha wow am i hopeful of this season!
