Yeah. Fire the guy who brought in the quarterback who finished out last season with six more victories than the beginning-of-the-season starter. Fire the guy who brought in the 1,000-yard back for a sixth rounder and traded the diva receiva just before his trade value plummeted to nothing because of his latest escapade. Fire the guy who re-signed our free agents who were worth something to the team, except for Langford. Fire the guy who didn't put us in cap hell by giving a backup with two starts and a couple of very average starters a disproportionate amount of money. All in the second week of free agency. I despise Ireland, but let's hold firmly to reality. It's six weeks before the draft and free agency isn't over yet. Judge him at the end of the season and if you still don't like him, call for his head then. Ross might even listen.
I don't take any of this personally or I never would have been made a staff member and if I did id have banned Jeff Ireland before he even registers here. The fact is that one player saying he doesn't want to play here is a problem, two is a trend, three is a serious problem even if it's three players I don't like or want necessarily. You completely misconstrued what I was saying to fit the argument you were attempting to make.
They might take it the same way many teams (including Denver) view Tebow. They might like Tebow the player, but the vast & obnoxious portion of his accompanying fan base acts as a serious deterrent b/c no team wants a part of that drama.
If I honestly thought that showing up at this protest would cause Ross to fire Ireland immediately, I would drive up there right now and and spend the night to be the first in line. Unfortunately Ross doesn't seem to have a clue when it comes to Ireland. As much as I would love to see Ireland gone, Ross seems to love the guy and it appears he would rather lose thousands of more season ticket holders than fire Ireland. Hopefully after the 2012 season is over, Ross will finally see the light, in regards to Ireland and next year we will finally have a GM who actually knows what he is doing. We can only hope.
You' ve mistaken the cut throat, Back handed business of pro football for biology class slick. Sent from my iPad
Actually you misconstrued what I said. When I said I was mostly referring to Crowder, Clark, and Bryant. It's not a popularity contest and I don't see why people act like those 3 not liking us has any sort of weight. I mean Dez Bryant and Crowder? Really? People really have a problem when they don't have a high opinion of someone? Yikes.
This protest, and the fans having had enough and taking action...this is one of the few things associated with this team that has made me proud as of late. Sent from my iPad
My info is that Philbin is our new HC, it's a week into FA, he hasn't had a draft, and yet some fans think a protest is a good idea. My logic wonders why this is happening. The result is that some fans may be fubar.
Every fan who supports my team is my brother no matter what their opinions are. We all bleed Aqua. We only want wins and bragging rights at our place of work. When i get personal with a Phin fan, annoy them and sell them out you can shoot me in the head and call me Jeff Ireland.
There is a distinct possibility that they close sections of the upper deck this year. Ticket sales are at an ALL-TIME LOW. think about that. This is the worst time in team history.
That cut throat, back handed business doesn't sound like something a lot of our soft as wet flowers fans can handle, Seth.
For fan attendance. But for almost every other stream of revenue its very high. Stephen Ross isn't losing sleep over ticket sales.
Of course he is. That's ridiculous. Every person that isn't a seat is a person not paying for parking, not buying beers and not buying jerseys. Ross may not be losing money, but his margins are going to be getting tight.
Can i pre-empt you? Sack Ireland now. Not for his decent calls but for making us look like complete schmucks to the rest of the NFL fraternity. message ends.
No chance. How much exactly do you think he lost last season on tickets and concessions? Do you know how much Paul Brown makes every year off the Bengals, who have horrible attendance?
I have no idea. If you know then enlighten me, otherwise you're statement is useless. And if it didn;t matter, why are they even bothering to try and sell tickets at all? Why not just play in an empty stadium and keep your overhead down? And Paul Brown makes alot of money because he inherited the team and owes no money on it and has one of the most sweetheart deals ever for a stadium. Ross paid over a billion dolalrs for this "distressed asset"
It's happening because the Dolphins do a PR job that's woefully horrendous. Never mind the football decisions and whether one agrees with them or not - Ireland et al either need a PR guy badly or they badly need to listen to the one they have. This isn't even a football mess; it's a public relations mess. I've honestly never seen a franchise doing that bad a PR job.
Since when did Ireland become the head coach, too. I think some are confusing responsibilities here. Ireland fielded a team that, during the 2nd half of 2011, was one of the better teams in the league and would've been a playoff contender with better coaching and no shortened offseason. Sparano is the coach who couldn't put it all together and win with it, hence his deserved firing.
I won't argue that isn't true. The celebrity thing seemed pretty stupid to me. That and Ross' public speaking is brutal. That being said, nobody would give a **** about any of that if we win games.
Seeing ya avatar Schmo i just realised we got dismissed by Cowher AND Chucky. I forgot that. I swear we are the poor mans Cleveland Browns...no disrespect to Cleveland cos they have decent owner and GM. You coundnt script it!
It's not that the sources are so great. It's that of this is how some players think of us, just think of the rest . Think about the time it's going to cost us good players we actually want. You know players talk to other players and even if many of them think little of upper management it's still going to bite us more then it has already if we don't fix the problem soon.
http://www.forbes.com/lists/2011/30/nfl-valuations-11_land.html Look at the operating income there. See how the TB Bucs had over $50M in operating income? How has their attendance been? Look at it from this perspective. Lets say the average ticket price is $80 per ticket. Stephen Ross has 20K unsold tickets for every home game. Thats 160k unsold tickets for the season. Thats ~$13M for the season in unsold tickets. How far below the salary cap were we last season? How far was Tampa Bay? Its pretty damn easy for these owners to make their money. There is a reason Ross fought tooth and nail to get a team, its because you can run it into the ground and still make bank.
I honestly do not care about the 3 in question. If it was some great player that had rational reasons for that belief, then I'd give it some more value. The source is everything. Some butthurt thought from the mind of Channing Crowder doesn't mean **** to me. You have no proof others feel the same way or a definitive case where it's hurt us. Sure doesn't look like Soliai felt the same way.
Yes, but thats just for 2011, and thats because of debt issues. Regardless, I would like to know how the TB Bucs have 40M+ in operating income with poor attendance.
No, but if you're not winning games, at least give people the impression that you're trying to. The whole Peyton/Flynn issue is totally homegrown. With a litte PR skill, you could've sold this as "either we get Manning or Flynn at an acceptable price or we'll rebuild via the draft". Instead, the Dolphins let the press run with "it's Manning/Flynn or die" for weeks, and now they're looking like donkeys. Sure, you can blame the fans for going bonkers over not getting the QB they were "promised", but heck, don't let the press promise something you can't deliver. That's precisely why you have a PR department.
You mistake sounding off and firing back for being soft. The reality is, and even Muck alluded to it, it is forcing change. Soft would be laying down, and continuing to let Irish keep plowing away. Sent from my iPad
I get that, but that's not the approach the FO takes. They make it well-known that they don't give a **** about anyone's opinion and they don't discuss anything that they're doing with the public. Both of which I have no problem with. However the problem comes along when you give douchebags like Omar, Armando, and the idiots from ESPN the clean slate to spin whatever they want and the fans believe it.
