Personally, I think it IS justified in regards to Ireland. Ross I'm willing to cut a little more slack, only because I think he may have gotten some bad advice. He's not a football guy (clearly), so he relies on the advice of others. Maybe he's kept him as long as he has as a favor to Parcells; I don't know. What I do know is that he's losing/lost A LOT of credibility with the fanbase and if he doesn't do something quick, Budweiser might feel differently about buying a lot of tickets next year.
Honestly I think there should be only one way Jeff Ireland could save his job and that's by finding a franchise QB in this draft. Think about how hard that's going to be given our draft position. The good news is the bean counters are going to be explaining to Stephen Ross just what a terrible job Jeff Ireland is doing. When the season tickets sales continue to decline, hopefully Ross will get the picture.
You could apply arbitrary lists such as this to almost any team in the league. Surely you don't see Broncos fans complaining they whiffed on Paul Soliai.
Too bad with most QBs it takes some time to know if its a franchise guy. So that gives more Ireland defenders ammo to claim he should stick around to see if he grows into a franchise QB.
And I'm still laughing that someone would take the time to visit a message board just to cry about how bad the team is lol That's hilarious. And I don't make playoff predictions in March, which is probably due to the fact that I'm not an idiot.
Yes. Have a hug. You get it. Winning is the name of the game. We from the 11-5 season, have gotten worse each of the last 3 years. People act like irleand built a perenial powerhouse and had a down year.
Da Fins, If you really think that Philbin did not lead the Matt flynn situation, and advise Ireland to not sign him, then of course you would be right about a lot, It would be the most irreparable GM decision I have ever heard of, absolutely a fireable offense, and if I was a reporter, this would be the story I'am trying to break..If we get word it was the case that Ireland overruled Philbin, with his offensive history, with that kind of intimate knowledge, we should all go to headquarters and beat the sh&^ out of him... Problem is, I'am 100 percent confident no'one who holds that position, is that stupid, in that situation, with those type of variables and inside information available.
I believe part of the criticism against Ireland is that because he's disliked, he has to overpay to lure quality free agents.
Clearing cap space for a player that will only touch the ball 3-4 times in the new offense; that is under investigation for hitting a woman; and coincidentally has serious psychological issues. I do agree, two 2nd rounders was too much to pay. Hopefully Ireland learned his lesson from that move.
BS. "Clearing Cap Space" should be the last reason you use to make that trade that makes your original trade even worse.
No, the salary cap is not just a myth. It actually exists. Marshall isn't worth his contract in the new offense.
Just a fact. Show me the guy that they got for good value. I can find ONE. Matt Moore. That's it. Even their best signing for the production (Reggie Bush) they paid premium for.
You'd have to ask the folks making that claim. Personally, while I think he's overpaid for plenty of free agents, I don't think that it's a result of his personality.
"The new offense". WHAT NEW OFFENSE? They haven't played a game yet. Wait till Greg Jennings contract is up. They already paid him a fat contract in 09' for his production. That is still not the point. They are paying more than half of Marshall's cap charge this year. SO they are paying him 5.8 million to play for Chicago, while getting screwed on the deal overall. That is just stupid.
Cameron Wake Randy Starks Jason Taylor Matt Moore Either way, I'm fairly opposed to spending much money in free agency in general. But if you look at the guys that he has spent premium money for, they've at least played up to their pay, if not exceeding it (Dansby, Bush). Certainly its been better than paying Santonio Holmes or Antonio Cromartie or David Harris premium money for **** play.
Oh, that money they are paying Marshall this year? Could have paid for Reggie Wayne, and given themselves a real chance at enticing Peyton Manning.
No, because his $10M next season isn't going to be an issue next offseason. And $5.8M in dead money is pretty good for this type of situation. There are teams that routinely get stuck with a lot more, and have no options but to stick with the player. And Greg Jennings got $16M guaranteed over 4 years. He's making $4M this year. I'm not sure how thats considered "fat". Either way, in that offense he wasn't any more valuable to Jordy Nelson last season.
Dansby is not overpaid. The rest were, and somehow the team managed not to get stuck in those contracts. I wonder how???
3-4 times, yes. Brandon Marshall had over 30% of the team's targets last season. That was second-most in the NFL. Nobody from GB was even in the top-30 in % of team targets.
Jennings will have earned 26 million over the 4 years he signed for. That was a FAT contract in 09' for his production.
I think Richard Marshall's contract was a good one as well. However, the above list of Grove, Smiley, Wilson and more certainly outweigh the good ones he's had. Also, we haven't heard about Wake yet - he's deservedly in need of a pay increase.
Wake they paid the most out of everybody that went after him. That he produced is great, but they outbid everybody. Randy Starks was a good deal, but now he is gonna take credit for that one? So all the good deals are his, and the bad ones to Parcells? Jason Taylor? LOL. I gave you Matt Moore.
Yes he is. The guy has not made a pro bowl, and for the money he has made, and is gonna get, he should be a perennial pro bowler.
