I don't want you to eat any crow, Blitz. I just wasn't fully understanding where you were coming from based on your feelings last year.

And how the hell have we ever managed without him?

Really didn't think he was relevant enough to list.

Maybe part of my frustration is that I'm fairly certain Ireland still won't draft a QB #1 overall. Maybe there won't be one worth drafting by our pick. Does that mean that just like last year Ireland will get a pass for once again failing to address the position if that happens? It's frustrating.

    Look...

To me...it looks like they intend to draft a QB...and that was their plan...outside of Manning. They werent goin to sign Flynn.....to what he wanted.

My guess..they werent goin to tell him...he would automatically start.

Im down with the approach of Moore and a Tannehill...or Weeden

Yeah players don't usually go out of their way to say stuff like that. It's troubling that he feels so strongly he would put it on twitter. It's hard to just ignore everything that's happened in the past year or so and pretend it's 'normal' and it's happening to every team. I don't think it is.

what has gone on?, our franchise didn't spend 30 million dollars on a player that the head coach didn't want running his team...

You have to consider the pressure Philbin was under, I'am sure that this being his first gig and all, he didn't want to settle..Its his *** on the line if Flynn wasn't franchise caliber..especially for a franchise that is starving for one.

So when Ross and Ireland said the #1 goal in the off season was to upgrade the QB position and no one knew if Manning would be available or healthy enough to play they were actually saying "we intend to draft a QB?" Oh...

Option A) Sign a 26 year old player who has been groomed in the offense for 4 years and use the #8 pick on the draft to fill another need.

    or

Option B) Draft an athletic QB with the #8 pick who is clearly going to need to be developed or a 29 year old QB prone to throwing multiple interceptions a game and has no mobility so probably wouldn't be a good fit for the system being installed.

And what Ross and Ireland meant all along was option B. But they knew that to sell it to the fan base they would need to still bring in option A and offer him a contract even though they didn't mean it so it looked like option A was the plan...interesting.

You're not understanding what I'm saying. Players NEVER say stuff like this in public. The fact that Clark did, means there are others who feel this say but have chosen not to.

One negative issue regarding Ireland, that rarely has been called into question, but likely would have met little opposition if it had, regards his attitude.
Personally, If the guy was selling TV's I'd probably shop elsewhere, and unfortunately, the guy happens to be lead salesman for all our hopes and dreams, every September through January.

If Philbin informed him, "Sure","Matt Ryan can be instrumental in this offense, and can adaquately lead us where we need to go." whereby leading Ireland to reply, "Ok, then leave it to me to acquire him",
I would have serious concerns about Ireland, going up against Pete Carroll in a head to head, come play for my team, shootout.

I understand perfectly well what you're saying, I just think it's meaningless.

One player in the league doesn't like our GM. How will we ever go on?!

And no, it absolutely does not mean what I bolded.

How people can ignore it is beyond me. Every media outlet reports it, and has been since Ross came around, and since the Harbaugh incident... Most will say its just the media picking on us though. But its not just the media, its even players saying it. Where there's smoke, there's fire... There's a reason we've been missing out on free agents for the last few years, its not just because we havent been winning. The Bucs havent done much winning lately, they got a great FA haul this year. The lions were pitiful, nobody wanted to go there, now look. It's time someone in the organization starts paying attention to the perception theyre giving off, because its clearly not working. How some can deny that, is beyond me.

I understand where Ireland gets fire but honestly I do not see why Ross. He has done what good owners do and stay out of football related decisions for the most part. His only mistake if any has been not hiring successful people to run the operation, but you can't say he hasn't tried with Parcells and Ireland. Also reports are that Philbin was his choice and most of us love the hiring.

So if I understand you correctly then the GMs job is to bring in players for visits and offer contracts to players fans want, but not to actually sign them because the coach doesn't want them? Mission accomplished.

Now I understand how things are being run at Dolphin headquarters.

Apparently I don't. So whatever they want? Huh...

Flynn signs a 3 year $26 million deal. Less than $9 million per year. Doesn't sound like Flynn was being unreasonable. That is a "fair" contract for an "average" starting QB in the NFL today. So either the Dolphin's GM doesn't think Flynn is even an "average" starting QB in which there would be no reason to bring him in for a visit and offer a contract at all or the Dolphin's GM is rather clueless when it comes to what is a "fair" offer for a starting QBs these days.

Either way you want to spin it the reality is both Ross and Ireland said the Dolphins #1 priority is to upgrade the QB position. That was said before knowing if Manning was to be available or healthy and anyone would be hard pressed to find a better QB available than Flynn. Obviously, other than Manning once he became available, Ross and Ireland thought Flynn was the next best QB. That is who they turned to. All indications are Smith would have a deal already signed with the 49ers and was after Flynn turned down Miami obviously.

Or is it that when Ross and Ireland said the #1 priority was to upgrade the QB position they were referring to David Garrard all along?

Your response makes it sound like Ireland is a smart businessman by not offering a player what they want. Yet, Ireland was willing to give $5.33 million per year to a nickel CB and $2 million + incentives to a backup OL that is generally considered to suck.

Of course, the other possibility is that Ireland did make a "fair" offer but as is being reported players look at Miami's organization as a joke right now with Ross/Ireland.

Either way Ross and Ireland come off looking like a couple of fools...again.

Or they just aren't as high on Flynn as you think. And his 1.5 games doesn't mean he should be paid average starter money either imo.

    Marshall will be a FS.

Moore is the only signed QB on the roster isn't he? Might wana add another one either way.

They can't upgrade the QB position in the draft?

Ross and Ireland only come off as fools to other fools who want to buy in to what the media is spinning, imo.

So in other words they were clueless when they said their #1 goal was to upgrade the QB position b/c they didn't understand who would actually be available.

Marshall may be the FS or he may be the nickel CB. Either way $5.33 million per year.

Luck and RG3 good argument for upgrading through draft. Everyone else, developmental projects and a gamble.

I guess I am one of those fools b/c I actually believed them when they said their #1 goal was to upgrade the QB position. I guess smart people knew they were lying to begin with.

What are you talking about? Your reply makes no sense. When did I ever say QBs are easy to come by? I didn't, that is why Flynn made so much sense. Flynn has already been developed...he was drafted 4 YEARS AGO! He could have run this offense in his sleep.

I believe it was your suggestion we could just draft one. Like it's that easy, right?

My perspective all along has been to sign Flynn and use the 8th pick to address another need...OL, pass rush, or WR.

That is your argument that we can just get one if the draft.

lol No you only insinuate it when you say the FO has QB as their first priority and act surprised when they haven't easily found one.

lmao Flynn played 1 game! Nobody aside from Philbin knows exactly how developed he is, no matter how much you want to believe he was the answer.

My argument is there wasn't a great QB option out there so I'm not ****ting my pants bc we didn't add one.

I think Miami lost the game of chicken. I think Miami wanted Flynn, and he wanted them. However, Miami was banking on Flynn wanting them a lot more than they did.

Flynn's choice did have to do with the five I'm sure. Not more than the money he was offered by Seattle. But, in essence, he's going to a place with a familiar OC, the system he ran in Seattle, and better personnel, and chance to win at this point. So, I don't think he's lying at all when he says he liked the vibe more. It came down to more money and the vibe.
