that's really disturbing. Plus, the one factor we haven't talked about is Philbin. Everyone is ready to play the blame game on Ireland and Ross if we don't get Manning. But when Manning comes back, Philbin's either embrace or lack thereof may be the biggest determinant in whether he picks Miami. All depends on whether Philbin is willing to roll those dice with his first HC stint.

Thats a good point. Part of me thinks Philbin is less than lukewarm to the idea of getting Manning. He would much rather bring a QB to run his system, than to bring Manning to run his own.

If Philbin would act like a petulant child because he's not going to get his own QB and will be "forced" to suffer a first ballot hall of fame QB in Peyton Manning, then we truly hired the wrong coach.

That's just it, I wouldn't want to go with Matt Moore if I'm Ross/Ireland/Philbin. I think he's a good backup quarterback. I don't think he's a good backup plan if Miami doesn't sign Manning or Flynn.

Ideally, I'd prefer they draft Tannehill or Weeden at this points since they knew they didn't want to pull the trigger on a trade with the Rams as Peyton Manning was still out there. I can only hope this potential courtship of Peyton Manning isn't an even bigger opportunity cost to passing on other players than it already is with Miami unwilling to play ball in terms of a trade with the Rams, as Schefter tweeted this morning. I've got a feeling there's going to be a few guys who "walk" from Miami and a few guys who don't visit Miami in the early stages of free agency because Miami is so tied up in courting Peyton Manning.

I think that whole notion was refuted based on what happened in Denver yesterday. They had helicopters and SUVs chasing Manning down all the way to Denver's facility. They interrupted local TV programming to announce Manning was meeting with the Broncos brass. They have a billboard urging fans to vote Manning or Tebow.

That cuts both ways. Moore often held onto the ball far too long, even when he had good protection and took sacks. He missed plenty of open throws on the field and made his fair share of pretty bad decisions. You wouldn't want Matt Moore as anything other than a placeholder for Ryan Tannehill, at most, going into the 2012 season.

Manning expected to visit other teams before making decision. Told that he came away very impressed with Pat Bowlen. Same goals.

How on earth can anyone believe that Philbin wasn’t well aware of the possibility that the Dolphins would be in the Manning race if he was available? Granted, I’ve only seen him speak 4-5 times but he doesn’t strike me as a guy that wouldn’t see the elephant in the room?

This is from Armando Salguero the day after Philbin’s initial presser.

I saw Schefter's report on this and it immediately struck me as "I just need something to throw out there" BS journalism.
I don't respect anyone in journalism anymore quite frankly. It's as dirty a business as politics today.
His whole reasoning for his comments were that Manning was "shocked" by all the media coverage and the news helicopters following his car. Really?????
You're telling me that a HOF QB going through FA never figured his every move would be followed on visits by the local media?

    Give me an effin break.
Schefter's just another guy trying to pump his worth by throwing spaghetti against the wall and hoping something sticks.

I have been checking (lurking) on this board seeing what everyone is saying about the Manning situation but, I had to echo the sentiment of Ronnie Bass regarding the walking dog sig:) It kind of freaks me out!:)

Yes because in other any other teams markets no press will even be interested in this........

You do realize how absurd this viewpoint is don't you?

well, to be honest, Indianapolis is about the most dull, toned-down, boring city that has a pro-sports team. their "media frenzy" typically consists of more than one news station reporting on a subject. I agree with you that all the other prospective cities will be pretty similar.

I agree! They don't allow gifs here of two girls kissing, but allow something obscene like that weird walking dog. I dunno. Makes no sense to me. :shifty:

Bad things happen to us so often that the fact that Peyton hasn't already signed in Miami turns into 'Dolphins losing steam'. If he would have visited us and then went to visit another team rather than signing immediately I'm sure that would have been reported as something similar. One of my Facebook friends who is a KC fan thinks that we were 'leveraged' by Harbaugh and Fisher. That's the perception out there about the Dolphins.

I`ve been as positive as I could be for the last two days but reading all the negatives is taking its toll and I should know better then to listen to all the "professional" minds that claim to be in the know.

The thing is I don't want Tannenhill anywhere near this team. I see nothing in him that makes me believe he is a franchise QB. I see a guy that is made something he isn't because the only two possible franchise QB's in this draft are going to be gone with the first two picks. Barkley went back to USC and people are desperate to believe a franchise QB will be sitting at #8. There isn't one I'm sorry.

I'd take Weeden in the second round if he is still available and let him start from about midseason on if Moore isn't playing well. That is about it. I do like Weeden in a lot of ways but I'm not convinced he is a franchise QB either.

As for Moore, I'm not saying he is the long term solution. What I am saying is that the thought that he is somehow incapable of beating a good team with a good team around him is ridiculous.

This guy has no clue. ESPN is turning into one giant waste of time.

You know what, good. Let everyone spew out opinions we are not the favorites because it seems everytime we were considered a favorite we lost out, so maybe being the underdog is the way to go this time.

This whole "loss of steam" due to a media focus is looking more and more like much ado about nothing. It seems the helicopters follow him in all cities he visits. We were just the first to put up the big top.

I find it funny everyone *****es and rags on Schefter and ESPN simply because they say Peyton isn't gonna choose the Dolphins.
Call them a waste of time all you want, but guess what?
Schefter and ESPN are probably right.
