IMO, Harbaugh didn't want to leave his family and his home in SF. Why should he when he just waited for the SF job. There was little chance we would have signed him.

You say potato and I say potahto...here's the thing, it was obvious that Fisher, from the start wanted personnel control, or in his camp's words " some personnel control". I believe that Ross knew that from the beginning as do you, not everyone agrees on that. Once Fisher came back from talking to the StL folks, he knew he had personnel control from them and Ross nixed that saying that personnel control would stay with Ireland. Some say it was written into Ireland's contract, but contracts can be re-written. As it turned out, Ross wanted Irish to have the personnel control and the coach to coach. Fisher turned us down, knowing when he was told that Ireland would not be relinquishing any personnel control. We can argue why Ross allowed the organization to be "on hold" and IMHO, they were while waiting for Fisher to make a decision, however, they did continue more interviews while 'waiting' for Fisher's answer. This has all been hashed and rehashed but the bottom line is that Fisher admitted turning us down and choosing the Rams. I can't figure out why the personnel issue, it that was all it was, dragged the circus on for nearly 10 days. Either way, Ross didn't get 'his man'...as at the time, Fisher was the only 'experienced' HC available.

As for Harbaugh, I can't remember all the specifics, but he supposedly told Ross from the beginning that he would listen to him, but wasn't interested in coaching the Fins. Again, supposedly there never was an offer of any kind, just a conversation to see where Harbaugh stood. Bottom line, Ross didn't get his man.

So, now here we are facing Manning...Ross' guy. I have plenty of reservations about Manning's health but even more interesting is, as you said, will Ross finally get his man ?? This courtship of Manning has started out like the Fisher thing...where we were the leading candidate...

Mr. Ross...go get your man, now. Show us you can close out this deal...

BTW, finally a deal that Carl Peterson's name hasn't been mentioned....don't know if that's good or bad...

I'm pretty sure you don't know the definition of the word "fact".

We have no idea what actually happened with Harbaugh. Fisher did not turn us down.

Everything points to Manning signing with Miami..both sides want it..perfect fit!


interestingly enough: it doesn't appear our Coach is that big on Manning. talks a lot about building through the draft, whatever. all I can say if Peyton decides to ply his wares with another franchise & Ross feels somehow Philbin didn't help the cause, then he better get us to the Superbowl without Manning this year if he want to keep his job.
