So the game comes out in a little over a month. Also there's co-op. Is anyone intrested.
This series was the reason I bought an Xbox so yes, I'm interested. I may not buy it right away though. I've barely broken into Skyrim and the Show comes out soon. I only have so much time for these games. But I'll definitely play it through at some point and finish my character's story. I'm interested to see how well the Kinect features will work. I like the idea of giving the squad voice commands in combat rather than trying to fool with the manual controls.
A month? Holy hell that is awesome. Wasn't even expecting it so soon. Bad that this is gonna time out to the same timeframe as when I move into a 1BR apartment. Recluse warning
Yeah I understand it will be mostly voice. Hopefully they do it well. Barking commands at your squaddies seems like it could add an immersive element to the game which would be nice.
Well I cancelled my PC order since it has to use Origin. Is there going to be any difference between the PS3 and 360 versions? Like future DLC? Also, if you play the Kingdoms of Amalur demo I guess you get some free ME3 armor, and you get a free weapon if you complete the 45 minute demo.
Thats a neat homage to the '64 LBJ ad.
Damn. The more I see of this game, the more I regret not playing the first two. However, I have a nasty habit of not finishing games. Played Bioshock 1, Batman both of them, Bioshock 2 have it, didnt even install it, etc. The only games I actually finished are Crysis all of the first series, and Dragon Age games. Question is, can I get ME3 and not feel lost without playing the first two?
Maybe you could but you need to play the first two. I don't finish games that often either [I also didn't finish BioShock, I didn't finish GTA4, Oblivion, and several others] but I couldn't stop playing ME1 and 2 until I was done. Also you can carry your character from the first game into the following games. The decisions you make carry over, it's one of the things that make ME unique and great. Don't cheat yourself out of that by not playing the first two.
Got the game today & here's how you import your character from ME2, if you are having issues that is.
I am definitely enjoying it so far. They made a few tweaks that irritate me, but that always happens in sequals. IMO they've improved on enough that it evens out. If you were a fan of ME1 and ME2 there is no reason you wouldn't love this one as well. I am not sure that it would be great to someone who hasn't gotten into the previous two. If you haven't played the others, get and play them first before picking up 3.
They kept true to the story line throughout all three games which I really liked. How they explained the ending was a little shocking but enjoyable. I know there are a lot of ppl on BSN that are whining about the ending which i found funny since this is only a game. The letdown for me was: Spoiler not being able to get tons of tail in this game. EG: I banged Jack in ME2 but the only action I got from her was the little touchie while dancing, WTF? But I did get a laugh when Liara told me she knows I got back with Jack near the ending & just wanted to be friends. I don't know about you peeps but if I were in Shep shoes with the end of the world coming, I would be getting as much tail as I can while trying to save the world. I'm Commander Shepard & I'm P.I.M.P! Best relief of this game was: Spoiler scanning of planets & no more driving! thank you BW for making it ridiculously easy to scan planets & not having to drive anymore. Finally got someone to chauffeur you around. Biggest head scratcher Spoiler What the hell is the Normandy on another planet when the game ends? I chose EDI & Liara to accompany in the end & they are with Joker on another planet, WTF?
Ending spoilers don't read them Spoiler Worst ending to a franchise. Sucker punched is the word I'm using. None of the choices you made in all 3 games matter in the end. very depressing.
I use the voice commands when chatting with other people. I don't find it to be all that great in combat though. I'm sure if that's just because I am used to Mass Effect without, or they just aren't that special. I just have not made the effort to use them more I guess.
wow. I dont know why but i'm surprisingly underwhelmed so far. Not really sure why, I loved the first 2 games.. maybe I was having a weird day yesterday. I can't really pinpoint what's not working it just wasn't winning me over yesterday
Wow the ending really is bad... I had heard so many different people ***** before the games release because of leaked spoilers, but I thought they were probably over reacting. Spoiler I don't care about the choices... Really, it never mattered to me. It's virtually impossible to make them matter in a significant way. HOWEVER, the explanation for the reapers was pathetic. The cycle of killing every 50,000 years takes place because synthetics (created) try to kill people (creators) and they simply restore order? So, synthetics are killing people because synthetics kill people. Really? I read that the original story line created by some guy named Drew something or other (pretty good sci fi writer, wrote KOTOR, ME1, some of Me2, etc...) had written a broad script for Me3 before he left bioware, that had the reapers killing every 50k years because of dark matter (Haestrome mission in ME2 eluded to it). I didn't understand it too well because I know nothing of dark matter, but the reapers were trying to save the universe. The extinction cycles were all unsuccessful on some level. The cycles could slow down the spread of dark matter, which would consume/destroy the universe, but not stop it. The hope was, they would find a race (humans) who had enough biological diversity to end the spread of DM. Until then, the created more reapers by uploading organic consciousness into synthetics. Every reaper is an entire race of people, basically. Humans were not born with biotics like other races. Genetic mutation of human DNA allowed them those abilities, which they were mastering quickly (ie. in the first game Sovereign explains the species who found the citadel, relays, aka reaper tech, would evolve along the lines of their choosing. Biotics and dark matter were tied together, but i forgot how. I think biotics absorb dark matter or something. Either way, it's why humans were marked by the reapers for "ascension". In the end, Soverign's words from the first game, and Harbingers from ME2 ring true. "We seek salvation. Ours and yours." and "We're your salvation through destruction" The "bad guys" are actually not bad at all. It was kind of a cool twist. We all as people think we're important. Important to our friends, family, employees, etc... In the end an individual life isn't that important in a macroscopic view. The reapers have had millions, billions, trillions years, whatever the number... of experience resulting in foresight and a solution (the cycle). However, despite knowing that our lives probably don't matter in a macroscopic perspective, they still matter microscopically. Remember, that scene with Mordin? Maybe it was just my game, as I've heard several scenes have different tones/dialog based on god knows what, but Mordin Tells Shepard he was wrong to create the Genophage. He only saw the stats, probabilities, etc... The big picture. But he now understands the little pictures make the big picture. He had to undue what he had done, even it meant death. Shepard at the end of ME3 would of had a similar choice. Big picture vs. Little pictures. Allow the cycle to continue, ascending humans to reaper hood, perhaps saving the the future of the universe and all species in the long term. OR, destroy the reapers, stop the cycle, and hope the galaxy could create a solution, which puts the universe in jeopardy. It was just a rough draft/overview, but I would of loved something like that. Instead, the ending of ME3 felt contrived. I hated the idea of the crucible from the moment I heard it. All of a sudden, a weapon of mass destruction just so happens to be discovered on mars? What? Really? With all the advanced tech, they're just now finding a secret room? I loved the uniting the galaxy story plot. I loved seeing the fates of characters from the past and the closure it brought. But the whole reaper thing turned out so badly... BW had the chance to create a truly masterful trilogy. Instead, they use dues ex machinas to resolve their story and turn the reapers motivations from "Beyond your comprehension" - Sovereign into something completely stupid... I did hear a cool theory about shepard being indoctrinated. Notice how Anderson's "kill the reapers/machines" was renegade and the Illusive man's "control the reapers" was paragon? Seems a bit odd huh? Well, one theory is that if Shepard controls the reapers, he does what the reapers want. He is indoctrinated. They can't be controlled, and by not destroying them, he does what they want. If he chooses Anderson's "kill them", he fights it. And if you get the "perfect ending", Shepard (presumed by the N7 uni) is seen taking a breath under rubble, as he survives... Why would renegade Shep survive? It's the only way to get that little "shep is alive" scene too. Indoctrination, according to the updated ME3 codex involves a dream like state (look it up in your game)... And in his dreams, he hears whispers calling to him (the voices guys like Saren and Illusive man ultimately succumb too). He ultimately dreams about this little child over and over... Did the child ever really exist? Or was the image of the child/AI star boy implanted through indoctrination? Not sure how it all fits, but kinda interesting. EDIT: Found a cool fan fic ending that fleshes out the real ME ending a bit. I like it. http://arkis.deviantart.com/art/Mass-Effect-3-Alternate-Endings-SPOILERS-289902125
Here is the ending theory I talked briefly about. Interesting. Not only that but BW employees have been tweeting Spoiler Tweets from ME3 Producer Michael Gamble telling gamers to “hold on to their copy of me3 forever” as well as from BioWare Community Manager Jessica Merizan posting enigmatic statements in regards to fans “reacting before having all of the facts” are only adding fuel to the theory’s fire. Spoiler Here is a series of points from me and others about Mass Effect 3 ending. The possiblity of Shepard being indocrinated. 1. The endgame scenario is Indoctrination/Manipulation from the Reapers (Harbinger) trying to force you into choosing to let the Reapers live. Shepard is not awake during the final sceens! 2. Choosing to control the Reapers allows them to live. Reapers win. They will still exist. 3. Choosing to combine organic and synthetic life: Reapers win. They will still exist. 4. Choosing to destroy all synthetic life: Reapers loose. Shepard lives. Reapers die. 5. Choosing to destroy all synthetic life option is more Renegade in appearence. Controlling the Reapers is more Paragon in appearence. The Illusive Man's choice should not be Paragon colors, just as Anderson's choice should not be Renegade. 6. Shepard awakes at the end of destroying Reapers. But Shepard is not awaking from the aftermath of chosing to control the reapers or combine organic and synthetic life. He is awaking from either after he is hit by Harbingers lazer attack on Earth or after the scene with Anderson and the Illusive Man. 7. Stating that all sythetic life will be destroyed will give you pause; destroying the Geth can force you to a different conclusion. This choice exists for the illusion of choice; the other choices are ment to sound better. 8. Shepard does not awake in the other 2 "endings" because you are fully indoctrinated by the choices you made to allow the Reapers to win. "Assuming Control!" 9. Never trust any child construct, be it a ghost or artificial intelligence, or heck even human. They are just creepy. 10. Shepard awakes at the end because he has broken hold of the Reaper's control. 11. Shepard has spent alot of time around Reapers. Soveriegn, various Reaper artifacts, the Human Reaper, 2 Reaper destroyers, the Artifact from "The Arrival." Its foolish to assume there is not some level of indoctrination. 12. EA/Bioware not only get more $$$ for DLC for the final battle, but big props for INDOCTRINATING A LOT OF ITS OWN PLAYERS! I do not know of another gaming company that has tried to fool all of its consumers, but they look to be the first and reap all of the attention. 13. Definitions: Catalyst = One that precipitates a process or event, especially without being involved in or changed by the consequences Crucible= A severe test, as of patience or belief; a trial. See Synonyms at trial. 14. Shepard is not wearing his armor when he wakes up in the Citadel, implying that this is a dream. 15) As soon as Shepherd "wakes up" after being blasted by the Reaper laser, he's limping. If, as you're playing, you try to look/aim down at Shep's feet, you can't. The view angle get's blocked so that you can't see below his/her knees. If you watch the pace of the legs moving, though, it becomes really obvious that Shepherd is moving considerably faster than he is actually walking, almost floating as it were. At first when I noticed this in the my second play-though I just figured it was designed that way because making Shepherds speed the same as his walk would make the last moments in the game take 3 times longer (and it already seemed to take forever). But if we're rolling with the hallucination/indoctrination theory, then the fact that he's practically floating on his feet just adds more fuel to the fire... 16) The line Harbinger repeated over and over in ME2 was that the Reapers would be "your salvation through destruction." Well, the synthesis and control options are literally salvation for the galaxy through Shep's destruction, buying into a compliance mindset. The only option that leaves Shep breathing is to destroy the Reapers, which has been the point since ME1. All the evidence points to the last sequence being a battle for Shepards mind that is only won when Shep chooses the path that the god-kid tries to convince him not to take. 17. Shepard awakes all tired and sluggish, people saying that they didn't see anyone reach the conduit, how did anderson reach the consil before anyone else unharmed. 18.The kid at the catalysit died in the opening of mass effect 3 and his ghoastly image haughts shepard in his dreams, a constant reminder of the cost of the war.The child's image is taken out of shepards mind and project to him. How can anyone project an image from someones mind unless it is a dream/indoctrination. Why did it take the form of the kid? 19.If the kid is supposed to be some god like power or knowledge then why does he try and convience you not to destroy the reapers (the point of the entire game). The other two options allow the reapers to still be alive giving them the opertunaty to indoctrinate/assume control of people. 20. Shepard is in space yet he is wearing no breathing equipment. But if I remeber right the citidel has a energy feild allowing organics to breathe according too the codex if I remeber right. 21. During the control ending look at the kid behind shepard he lingers for a few seconds, from what I can see the kid appers to be smirking why would he do that? Well the indoctrination was succesfull and the reapers convince sheperd to let them live. The choice was favorible for the reapers. 22. The destroy the reapers ending, if you look behind the kid almost immediately disappers, if shepard is indoctrinated then he disappers it is because it failed to get shepard to show any sympathy for the reapers. Which then leads to the footage of rumble and shepard breathing under it. The rumble around him are all stone from broken buildings no shiny metalic objects that the citadel is made of. And in the background of that scene you can see a building. The ruble is from earth in london, there is no rumble from the citidel explosion so you can assume that shepard never made it to the citadel because nothing from the citedel is made from rock it is made from metal. 23. Some say shepard survived the crash from the citadel in space with no oxygen on the way down and somehow survied the atmosphere not burning up. Look at how died in mass effect 2 it is the same way as how he got to earth and is "alive". He fell from space with no oxygen on the way down and burned up on reentry. Plus the force of him hitting the ground would have killed him even if he survived. 24. Why would this option only have the option where shepard is alive on earth. Because the indoctrination failed and shepard still choose to destroy the reapers. 25.The choice to destroy the reapers is made to look like a renegade choice the bad choice, while choicing to controll the reapers is made to look like the paragon option the good option and equivalent to Illusive man's thinking where you controll the reapers. 26. Many complain that shepard wasen't himself when talking to the catalyst, the fact that he/she didn't question anything. Now think when you are dreaming can you normaly control the dream can you decide what to belive, what to question, and deterime if it is sence, normally no. Their is mine and other theroys on why the mass effect 3 endings were all the result of indocrination by the reapers. I hope other content, dlc, or books come out and get some closure on the real ending if the theory is correct. If you agree post a commit with your own insight and if not I would like to hear your thoughts. http://my.spill.com/forum/topics/mass-effect-3-endnig-the-indoctrination-theory-1
Spoiler Yeah I heard about the Dark Matter plotline was cut out because of the leaked script, so BW had to hurry up and change it to the ******ed "The Reapers are created to stop synthetics and organics from fighting each other because they will never get along" plot. Except for the fact that you can forge a peace between the Geth and Quarians. Also doesnt the destruction of a Mass Relay wipe out a star system? The Arrival DLC pointed that out nicely. Unless these eplosions were different. Plus we do have the old guy and his grandkid at the end on the same planet the Normandy landed on, so I'm guessing hundreds of years later the Mass Relays were somehow replaced. And why did Joker ***** out and run? How the hell did my crew get back to the Normandy? WHERE the hell is the Normandy? What is going to happen to all those ships stuck in the Sol System? and the "Starchild"/Master Reaper AI" was completely unnecessary. So yeah, great game, except for the last 10 minutes which is kind of a **** you to anyone who loves the story.
I didn't mind the ending. It reminded me of Deus Ex a little bit...actually, the more I think about it, it kinda ripped off the ending. Then again, both ripped off the Matrix so whatever. Still an awesome game. There's a really easy way for them to rectify the ending so everyone gets off their *** about it, and I think we all know what that is.
