Simple answer is yes but a different style. Luck is a dual threat in the sense that he extends plays and can pick up yards here and there. Even though Luck measured in shorts like Cam, Cam still has more athleticism. Cam is also much bigger, he probably plays at 260lbs and has a little more agility.........plus goes over the top at the goaline as good as any one. Luck isn't going over the top of piles at the goaline.

So yes he is dual threat but Luck isn't running the run option like we saw Cam do in college and in the nfl

In the sense of he has the wheels to make those runs, I wouldn't call Rodgers a dual threat qb (4.71 40) colt McCoy? (4.79 40)
dual threat would be a mike Vick who has shown that he would rather run then make a throw getting hit..along with cam newton..and soon to add RG3

The majority seems so quick to make the Luck-Manning cerebral comparison... but IMO Griffin has the potential to be as good of a chess player on the field as those 2, and as much as I like Griffin's natural ability, I think it's his mental make up that I like the most..... or at least as much.

I'm skeptical about the idea that we know the Rams want a similar deal to the Eli deal. How do we know that is what they want? No one is quoted as saying that are they? Not from what I have read. It's unclear to me that the same source saying they are trading the pick said that is what they want in return. And even if it was the same source or someone did say that, why should we believe them?

If I were the Rams and were forced to say what they want I would tell the media that I wanted as much as I could possibly get. Why not? What if some GM was a moron or was having a bad day when he heard that and offered some crazy deal? Basically, my point is that I don't think we know what the Rams want. Sure, we can assume they want a lot. But if we are to believe that their preference is to trade the pick (that's an assumption), it could be that they would accept a lower offer than a team that preferred to keep it. And if that's the case who knows what they would take.

I disagree about Rodgers. He doesn't have to pick up 35 yards a run to be a dual threat b/c offenses typically need 10 yards or less to move the chains, and 5 yards gained on 1st down is considered a "+" play.

Rodgers, as mentioned by his opposing defenders, has the ability to pick up those first downs with his feet, making him all that more effective b/c teams have to worry about him taking off. By the way, 4.71 is faster than the majority of dline guys chasing him. It's faster than what Coples ran IIRC. I think you're giving his athleticism less credit than it deserves.

1,183 yards...4.8 avg (which includes sack yards).. 16 TDs?
I think that qualifies as a dual threat b/c any time you ignore Aaron he can pick up enough yards with his legs to hurt you.

This may be true, but Luck runs an offense and makes pre-snap reads and adjustments like an nfl vet. he has a very rare ability to do that like the Mannings. No surprise since he is mentored by the Mannings for years.

RG3 may be able to do this in the future, but make no mistake about it........he does not do that now.

He is an eloquent speaker and a nice kid. To take that and make the assumption that that equates to being on Manning level pre snap adjustments is a big leap on your part. I know you think he can do everything, but being a nice smart kid to being an elite football Manning mind is a big jump.

23 reps in the bench, arm length 33.25 and beer belly = late first round pick. Cordy Glenn is the best RT prospect in the draft IMO.

I have a feeling the Eli deal could look small in comparision to what the RGIII deal will be. Let's not forget, Eli didn't want to play for the Chargers and the Giants already had Rivers in hand when that deal went down. I didn't read anywhere there were 2 or 3 prospective teams in the mix like there are this time. An auction is always the best way to sell something if you know for sure there are multiple avid suitors.

I believe your argument is based on what his offense didn't need him to do..In the offense that his coaches wanted him to run, he was exceptional, in every sense of the word..If you want to wait for him to be drafted by another team because a timing based system was not implemented in college based on a coaching preference of offense, not because of an inherent weaknesses by the QB, that's you and thats fine, I see an elite skillset from the feet up, that will be able to thrive in a west coast system, which we run..I think that is a dynamic situation, and Id like to have a front row seat to watch it develope.

I think he's highly accurate on his short to itermediate stuff, and as far as anticipation, I believe it takes good anticipation to be able to throw the deep ball that well.

Pretty much a case of whether or not you want that skillset, can exploit it, and whether or not you indict him on the things that he wasn't asked to do.

It wasn't an argument per se. It was a brief breakdown of his weaknesses. A list of observations of his weaknesses since I was asked for them. I gave some reasons why he has those weaknesses and what leads to those flaws. I think you need to make that distinction.

Anyways yes he does have a unique skillset, thats obvious. I just think people are trying too hard to make him the prospect he is not. People trying too hard to make him on the level of Luck as a prospect which he is not. Then again most in the media lack the knowledge and eye to see some of these things so I'm not surprised anyways. I do like RG3,just pointing out he does have flaws and inconsistencies and question marks.

Todd, yes Rodgers has had great success picking up first downs and running the ball, our versions of dual threat are different based on opinion. He has the yards and TDs but I was basing my arguement more on the rushing attemps per game, Vick 4-9, t-blow 10-13, newt 7-10 all guessed numbers but Rodgers sometimes doesn't even have one, he's good for 1-2 a game for 15 yards... I just meant that it's a second nature to those guys, in turn hurting their passing ability

We basically have 3 categories of QBs with their legs. Dual threat, statues, and mobile QBs. Guys like Rodgers, Vick, Tebow, Cam are dual threat QBs just like Steve Young, John Elway, Tarkenton, and Cunningham were in there day. Those are definitely dual threat guys. Lets make the distinction between these categories:

    1. Statues - Marino, Bledsoe

    2. Mobile - Drew Brees, Joe Montana

    3. Dual threat - Vick, Tebow, Cam, Rodgers, Cunningham, Young, RG3, Luck

they can all get it done in there own way but do it differently. Guys like Marino and Bledsoe are not going to move around much, they are statues. A guy like Brees or Montana will slyly move in the pocket but aren't going to leave it much, a mobile pocket QB. then guys like Luck, RG3, Rodgers, Young, Vick will tuck the ball and pick up yards down the field, a dual threat QB.

I don't think Dan Marino should be considered a statue. Before his leg injuries and his having to wear knee braces he was as mobile as he wanted to be and could roll outside the pocket when necessary. True, Marino couldn't be considered a duel threat quarterback or a running quarterback but he didn't need to run as he could do more with his arm than most quarterbacks could do both running and throwing. Watch highlights of the 85 Bear game when the Dolphins beat the undefeated and vaunted Chicago Bears. Marino did some nice roll outs to buy time for his receivers where most quarterbacks would have taken off running. This was when Marino was still mobile and hadn't had to wear those cumbersome knee braces.

Lol....as far as comparisons go, RGIII reminds me of Eric Crouch with a much stronger arm and more accuracy:

    Heisman winning QBs....check
    Filthy speed.....check
    Unknowns about intermediate throws....check
Ran unorthodox offense(read: simple) in college....check

By the way....this is only half serious....

Even in his knee brace, Dan was pretty darn alrite in that pocket. As someone above stated, he didn't need to worry on dual threat stuff. His release and where he could put that ball are what most QBs wish they could have these days.

  31. My thought is we should consider postioning ourselves in next years draft by offering the redskins our 1st this year 4 their 2nd pick this year and their 1st n 2nd next year. That would give us 2 1sts and 2 2nds in next years draft giving us a real chance at moving up for barkley. If manning looks ok we can sign him and if not we start moore and see if he can hold his own as our starting qb for a full season.

If the redskins won't bite maybe the browns would on a similiar deal.

I haven't thought about this but I think this could be the best move yet... We would grab one of the 3 best Te's this year ( if we sign Flynn because philbin thinks he's worth it ) next year we wouldn't have to think of barkley... We would draft twice in the first and twice in second.. I'm not really happy with the players this year according to our spot in line... I think 6-7 for us would have put us in great position for a falling player but Shula guy I think you hit the nail on the head with your post

Dolphins interviews RG3 and the interest is there. With the 8th pick, Miami just doesn't have the leverage to pull off the deal.

The Rams will end up trading with Cleveland. They can then pick up Blackmon at 4 and then get an OL at 22. It is a huge WIN for the Rams and the Browns get a franchise QB out of the deal with the Falcons last year and the Rams this year.

Luck is as close to perfection as I've ever seen, so that excitement and hyperbole is deserved, and for RG, he's not Luck, but in terms of a physical qb skillset and ceiling, combined with his other attributes, I think being very excited on the opportunity to have it in our uniform would be reason to do fu$$ing cart wheels..

I see that your pointing out some weaknesses, i'am just not sure he couldn't overcome them with that talent and good coaching, so for me it still means excitement.

It's probably all moot though, we're to far back and other teams have more power to move up..

It's sucks, but at least there is another exciting upside skillset in Tannehill.

    Yes really.

He couldn't scramble or break one off, but inside the pocket he was Fred Astaire. Yes, he had the quick release, but he was also very elusive in the pocket.

I think we can all agree that DAN was "nifty" in the pocket. He was agile. He could sense the pressure and take one quick step and make a pass-rusher whiff and look silly. We also can agree that DAN was never a threat to rush for a first down.

Does this ability I think we all can agree on rise to the level of "mobile"? That's up to each person's definition of mobile.

I wouldn't call Marino mobile, however I wouldn't call him a statue. He wasn't Rob Johnson, Drew Bledsoe, or David Carr in the backfield.

I think for a lot of people the last images of Marino was that of a statue. After he tore his achilles heal he did lose mobility fairly quickly as the years went on. But in his prime he was exceptional with his pocket presence and moved around pretty well, much better than a lot of QB's.
