I'd pass on Flynn if he was tagged. I dont know if the Packers are bold enough to take that gamble, especially since the QB demand could thin out quickly.

The Packers are obviously set on tagging Flynn and trading him..... seeing as they just announced their intention to do so. lol.

There's no way I'd give the Pack a pick for Flynn. I'd make them pay him the franchise tag QB salary for a year to sit on the bench.

  4. What if he's worth it?

Where are you hearing this? All I've heard is people speculate based on the Finley signing without any regard to Green Bay's cap room. They'd have to shed some $8 million + in cap room and be completely out of the first week or so of Free Agency while trying to take bids.

The Packers will receive a draft choice as compensation if Flynn leaves in free agency. The Packers would figure to get a third-round compensatory pick in 2013 if Flynn leaves and signs a big contract.

Not happening, nothing to see here.

Whats the going rate for Franchise players, is it an average of whats paid to the top 5 players at that same position in the league? Flynn may be all that and then some but I would hate to lock ourselves into that kind of a contract for a player who has only a few games experience.
Its imperative we make a move but I don't want us to paint ourselves into a corner in doing so.

Unless the Pack has a handshake deal in place with some team beforehand, I don't see the risk being worth the reward in tagging Flynn. At most you're looking at getting a 2nd round pick in a trade (nobody will trade 2 #1s for Flynn). You almost assuredly will get a 3rd as a compensatory pick if you just let him leave as a FA. The market for Flynn appears to be Miami and maybe Cleveland (reports are that Seattle won't be pursuing Flynn and if they do it's only if he's not too pricey and Washington is not interested). And Cleveland reportedly will make only a very budget conscious offer for Flynn. So basically, unless Miami is bidding against itself, nobody looks willing to break the bank for Flynn and rightly so. I like Flynn. I think he can be very productive (elite level production) in the right system and is a considerable upgrade over Moore, but he's not an elite talent. He won't be great in most places. Miami is fortunate that with Philbin they might be the only place where he can become an elite producer. That's not a great market for GB to risk getting stuck with a salary cap crippling franchise tag for the hope of moving up one round in the next draft.

In a press conference.... straight from the mouth of the Packers. It was on NFLN yesterday. GB says it's a priority to tag Flynn. Basically said they're going to do it, and they're working on creating cap room.

This isn't like, "Oh, I forgot the onion.... eh, I can do without it".
This is, "We forgot the hamburger meat for the hamburgers, we need to turn around".

If they can get even a 2nd round pick for it, you can bet they're working around the clock to make it happen.

What if he's not? Either way why pay for something you can get for free? Green Bay is going to pay him a top QB salary to be Aaron Rodger's backup? They're going to eat up that much cap space on a backup position? I think not.

Well without a link were going to assume you misheard because Ted's most recent statements refute that.

    http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?sl...packers-dont-rule-out-franchise-tag-for-flynn

But the cost—$14.4 million—would force the Packers to pull of a sign-and-trade with an interested suitor. Should they lose the gamble, the tag can be rescinded, but that could drain the Packers of all but a miniscule amount of salary cap space. The deadline to use the franchise tag is March 5.

"It's hard for me to predict," Thompson said. "I don't think anyone can predict what's going to happen in free agency."

Until I see the Packers start shedding some contracts it's all posturing bs.

And yet there's no quote anywhere on the internet backing that up....and that would be huge news if he came right out and said such. Yet here he was today being non specific still. Hence why we are quite skeptical until we see such ourselves.

I have a sneaking suspicion that is the case. Philbin wants him, Ireland doesn't want to screw up the new coach, so they decide to give GB a pick to make sure he doesn't end up somewhere else.

It may be. My guess is that it if it went down that way it would be either a straight 2nd round pick or maybe a 3rd that's conditional and can become a 2nd.
