Many here have consoles and prefer the controller to the keyboard/mouse. I, for one, love the control you have with a keyboard and mouse. Ability to bind weapons/abilities to keys is crucial in most PC games, especially multiplayer fast-paced FPS games. In the realm of fast-paced FPS genre you have games such as Unreal Tournament, Quake (all), etc. I've been playing a game for a couple years and it's totally free. Plays on all operating systems and the competition is darn good. The game is called Nexuiz, check it out: The development for the game was forked after the naming rights were bought by a company called Illfonic (who are making a console Nexuiz version for XBOX360 and PS3.) This has led to a split in the player community of the game, some have gone on to play the fork called Xonotic. Check it out here: Also, you can check out the console version, which is to be coming out soon and also part of Microsoft's house party edition or whatever: Maybe you guys have some favorite free games for PC, let me know! No League of Legends players in here? I havnt played in a few months myself, but outside of the **** player community there is lots of fun to be had for anyone who enjoys light RTS & hack'n'slash RPG game play. My mains are/were Gangplank & Caitlyn, yeah Im a cheesy little ***** I know.
Also, there are some pretty good independent servers ran for some of the old school MMOs like EverQuest(www.project1999.org), Star Wars Galaxies(www.swgemu.com), and Dark Age of Camelot(http://uthgard.net). The great thing about those emus(other than being free lol)....they are all designed as "pre-game ruining changes". So the SWG server is set up to be just before SONY destroyed it with the 2 game-breaking updates, DAOC is before most of the nerfs to certain popular classes, and EQ is set up to only use the first 2 expansions(ones designed before SONY took over lol). No, the EMUs are not illegal either. Though I believe with the SWG emu that you would actually need the real disc for "legal reasons"(supposedly you get banned using ISO/virtual drive).
I forgot about League of Legends... I lov that game. It is a ton of fun! However, I need a new computer to run it so I haven't played in a while.
