I've watched Weeden play a bit, looked into his background, and the throws+reads he was asked to make, admittedly not every game mind you:

-Good arm, this is a Qb who a Coach can have confidence in throwing the ball 40 to 50 times per gm
-Good leadership skills, if you watch the OSU receiver corps, they do not pout or show much disappointment when the ball doesn't come their way.
-Good ball skills, one of the problems with the air raid offense is the technical things a Qb is expected to do, such as play action fakes, Weeden looks as if he has the hand strength and size to master them rather easily.

So what's the problem from my pov?

Valuing him in the draft, not many players of his age come out every yr, so that throws the monkey wrench into what I'll call "NFL think", when GM's sit down and look at players, they think 5 yrs from now, where will he be?

This is an improper valuation of Weeden, how he should be looked at is as a Free Agent Qb, a player who is ready to step in and contribute from Day 1, with that in mind, it is a given such a player would command a 2.5 million dollar per yr backup Qb contract at a minimum, that amount of cash is normally paid to...late 1st rd picks.

Ask yourselves this, Weeden doubters, if Weeden was coming from the CFL and had put up the numbers he has put up, what sort of contract would he command?

If I were the GM, and I struck out out signing or trading for a Flynn or a Manning, I'd have to clench my teeth, and use my #1 pick on him, even the #9 or #8, simply because you cannot overpay for a Qb, and to not use that high pick on him means you are risking losing out on the Qb you've identified as "the guy", if you were willing to pay Manning 15 million, or Flynn 9 million, take Weeden, use the money saved to sign some free agents in your need positions, that way you exit the talent acquisition cycle with better answers then "it's a competition between.."/

I agree! living in Oklahoma I have watched Weeden, heard him speak and have gained a good feel for how he interacts. he is very mature and professional. Whoever grabs Weeden will be very impressed and happy they did.

Wouldn't he have better numbers because of the longer fields :shifty:.

He's the qb I want this off-season if we can't have Luck.

Padre very well put, unless Philbin picks Flynn and he better be right cause his job would be on the line and we don't get Manning,
Weeden makes all the sense in the world.

Absolutely agree with padre! Tired of those doubters saying he has short "life span" then turn around and say, grab manning and a qb to develop. Or worse, get flynn who could cost far more than a 2nd rounder in cap space. We have a team ready for a qb not a team in development. Of all options a couples, weeden, s or te first three picks would be great. Last pick based on bpa and who we acquire in fa. Personally finley/ weeden sounds better than flynn and whomever.
