Drugs...again. Not confirmed, but I'm pretty sure drugs are involved in some way. Talent down the tubes. Bobby Brown can be partially "thanked" for this. What a guy he is. Should have been that POS.

She didnt need any computer aids or special effects or background music to sound good. She had one of the best voices I have ever heard .What a waste of talent.

She had bad taste in men and that ultimately destroyed her.RIP

I know someone who saw her perform in Monte Carlo 20 years ago. He, a serious muso, said she had the best female voice he has ever heard live. He was working in the hotel and heard her singing her scales and he said she was pitch perfect on every note.

Another person saw her middle of last year. She slurred, forgot the words and couldn't hit a note or carry a tune in a bucket.

Mark this down as a Shakespearean tragedy.

She was incredible but severely disagree that she was "as big as
Michael". That guy was the Beatles of our time. Countless hits, ground breaking music videos, all in all arguably one of the greatest artists Ever. His dancing, singing and longevity make him light years above IMO.

the longevity part is key. Good ole Bobby Brown took care of that. If she had stayed clean, she would've been a arguable second to MJ.

It was 1985, I was a young 19 year old kid and had just enlisted in the Army and stationed at White Sand Missile Range, NM...a desolate area compared to Jacksonville Beach where I grew up. Not much of anything to do there other than "hang out" and listen to music...and on the stereo at that time often was Whitney Houston.

A true treasure has been lost, a testament to the dangers of drugs and the tragedy of a daughter being left to be raised without her mother.

Rest in peace Whitney and thank you for the gift of song you gave us all.

I believe she actually outsold MJ?

MJ was an entertainer, Houston was a singer, two very different things.

Sick, I see you are only 24, I am only bringing this up because in the 80's and early 90's before she meet the scumbag Bobby Brown and drugs she was as big as a megastar as there was on this planet, she had it all and take it from someone who remembers the music scene from back then vividly. She was most definitely up there with MJ, Madonna, you name the artist.

Michael had hit songs from the 70s-late 90s. Bands came and gone, and yet, days before he died, Michael was selling out global concerts, Whitney was doing half assed reality shows on crack.

Believe me, I know MJ's resume, but note I am saying she WAS and at one time you was. She was also is and still the most awarded female singer of all-time. And she did that in a very short span, that's how talented she was.

She was one of the most talented female singers of all time.

I disagree she was as big as Michael Jackson. For one Whitney did tributes to Michael Jackson, it did not happen the other way around. Even though that was the first time I understood the chorus to Wanna be Starting Something.

Also if it wasn't Bobby Brown, it would have been another scumbag. Whitney deserves blame for her fall. It is not all on Bobby.

i cant really feel sorry for her really , she is almost in that amy winehouse doesnt care about life category, drugs and rock'n'roll, at least all the old music from her ist still there, i paid 70€ for a concert some time ago, just to see a woman that was in fairly bad shape that could even sing one song to catch her breath, well anyways RIP whitney houston, you used to be good, but that was a long time ago

"Crack is for poor people, I'm not poor (so I use powder cocaine)"

That is sad to hear, but not surprising, heavy cocaine use leads to serious heart damage, so much so it can be irreversible, that is what Andy Gibb died from, his heart just had no stamina.

Her crack is whack statement went viral years ago. She liked living on drugs. Blame Bobby if you want, but she could have just said no and threw him out on his butt. She didn't. She embracced the life style. Bobby introduced her to demons she didn't want to fight. Such a beautiful singer before she met Bobby.

As Rick James was once quoted as saying once..."cocaine is a hell of a drug" Now that comment of his has been turned into a punchline on Dave Chapelle, but there is literal truth to that. I'm sure there smokers in here. I'm sure there are those of you who have tried to quit and some of you, you just CAN'T quit...nicotine being that addicitve.

The same goes for cocaine. Its addictive properties are so great, that you only really truly "enjoy" cocaine a few times....after that, you're addicted to it.

I put the blame for Whitney's cocaine use on her, but I do wish to God she had never hooked up with Bobby Brown. I think it's fair to say had the two never met, the likelihood of her using cocaine would have been cut in half at least.

She was great, but nowhere close to Michael Jackson. MJ changed music, dance and video simultaneously. Whitney was a once in a generation voice. They're not in the same league.

Robin Williams said that in the early 80's.

As for MJ v Houston, wonder who is on the radio more today?

    :dunno:

It's a shame arguably one of the greatest voices ever. And IMO Brown was only a symptom. If it wasn't him she would have found somebody else to take her to the same place.

Personally, I'll never feel bad for anyone who has enough money to do whatever they want but ends up killing themselves on drugs that we've all known for decades will do that. That's a choice.

And no, I don't consider addiction to be a disease. Aids is a disease. Cancer is a disease. ODing is a choice.
