Meaning you can get Manning for a song to ride the bench while his nerve remains dead.

Its not a matter of wants it's a matter of who is available. Right now Manning is not because of the injury. Like Ross most Dolphin fans are head over heels in love with PM.
Sooner or later you have to make a choice. Is it worth the risk to wait it out. I don't see it.
Also every day that goes by without Manning getting better is another day closer to me being right about him being done. Now that is a fact.
He is not going to wake up one morning with a miraculous recovery like people see in the movies. I don't live in a fictional land.
I reside in the real world.

Even his brother reported after the SB that his velocity is not back.

I doubt he is magically better in the last day or so. :wink2:

That doesn't mean he isn't improving.

Once again it is not an injury that you can measure improvement in a day.
So far in this length of time the status hasn't changed.
You can will it to happen all you want bro but that doesn't make it so.
Dolphin fans need to learn to face these realities instead of wandering around in a fairy tale.

What are the lottery numbers? Wondering around in a fantasy land is having a strong belief that Manning isn't going to be ready by the start of the season. No one here knows for sure.

Fantasy land is hoping and believing you get the premiere QB in the league at full strength for next to nothing.

    I agree.

The question I have is 85% Manning > 100% Matt Moore or Matt Flynn

It's a good question and one Ross will have to decide not me.
It would still depend on whether he could play at all or not.
If you mean where he is at now I would say nope.

    Why?

All it would cost is money the team could afford.

There is no future with an injury prone QB.

Exactly, if he gets injured, we wouldn't have to pay up with an incentive contract.

So basically you're saying Ross' money isn't worth the gamble of him recovering? You know the team is the Miami Dolphins, not Miami Ross'money, right? Why is there this allegiance to Ross' money and just absolute fear of using it for a chance to make the team better.

Once again Dolphin fans lead themselves down the road to disappointment.
Go out and sign an injured veteran QB again. When it fails I will have to hear about the failure for the next five years.
Why do you guys do this to yourselves?

The next 5 years? lol You really sound silly.

You act like we'd be throwing all this money at some random veteran QB while not having a fall-back option, which is wrong on both counts.

But ya, it's everyone else who's overreacting.

My argument is the same. Manning's inability to get guaranteed money would be a reflection of his current ability.

    Obviously.

At the same time it's a reflection that he's a reasonable guy who's already made a ton of money and isn't going to be a dick about being paid a lot when he'll probably still be recovering when he's released.

Now if everyone waited to sign him until he was fully recovered, then the guaranteed money would be a different story, no?

That's what makes it a gamble.

Which means you won't get him for cheap unless he is not healthy. Which in turn what good is an injured aging veteran QB.
    You people are hilarious.

I'm saying that the amount of money guaranteed is going to be based on the outlook of his health. IMO little to no guaranteed money means that the outlook is very bad.

No that was your original argument, which you then changed to "who doesn't get guaranteed money"?

Regardless, the issue at hand is prospective employers' perception. Peyton is willing to sign an incentive laden contract because he's CONFIDENT he can achieve those incentives. If he wasn't confident about his recovery he wouldn't be confident about achieving those incentives. He's basically offering the closest thing to a money back guarantee. Following your logic, companies only offer those if they're pretty sure their product won't work.

You can also negotiate a contract in non business situations.

Football is completely different than doing business in the real world.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Everyone knows Peyton is the ultimate competitor. I've heard all the stories of him competing against his brothers growing up, and his fierce determination to always win at whatever he's competing in. How different is it then that he wants to prove all the nay-sayers wrong? IMVHO, if Peyton still wants to play football, it means he feels confident he can still compete at a very high level. Otherwise, he will simply retire. He's already got his ring, and his success as a pitch man has already proven he has a big career ahead of him on TV after football.

    JMHO...

If he takes an incentive laden contract it will mean he is hanging on for dear life to his NFL career. It would be his only option and his last shot.
Also meaning he would still not be healthy.
Desperation is a waste of time... IMHO.
