Just heard that a "source" says that Wash is the most likely place for Payton to land..... Imagine, if that were the case and Cle goes after a WR or Richarson..... Who might land in our laps?? RGIII with no trade required! That would be PERFECT,

    Not sure if serious.

I saw that too but I honestly can't imagine Manning thinking WASH is a better scenario. No BM, Shannahan, Snyder, etc.

I would never make that claim. My concern is that Manning will not be healthy and anywhere near able to throw by the time we have to make a decision on Flynn. And no medical opinion can tell you whether Manning will eventually be ready at that point. This then is no longer just a medical decision. It becomes "a we don't have any idea whether he will eventually be be able to play so do we pass on the other available QBs while we sign him and cross our fingers" decision.

Even if we sign Manning, and draft around him this year, that will give us 2-3 years to draft in some good defensive players and possibly trade up for a solid qb Peyton can mentor in his final years, to rule the post brady era. It sounds like a solid plan to me. Assuming his is healthy and stays that way. I wouldn't be against drafting another offensive lineman to help him out even.

    LOL....

With all due respect... your "source" is commenting on a process that has not even started yet.
Any "source" making a comment on such at this point isn't a source, it's just someone wanting to seem important.

I'd be surprised if Peyton went to a team in his brother's division. Not saying it can't happen, but it would mildly surprise me.

We missed out on Brees because he wasn't cleared by our medical staff and we didn't want to take the risk....look where that got us. I think if there is any chance in the world that Manning can play and play well you have to take the risk. Too much upside to say no and you can't win big unless you gamble sometimes

I am as serious as the article written. If its somehow true, and I agree that it doesnt seem likely that Wash is more appealing, then a shot at RGIII seems possible.

BR isn't as bad as it used to be. They paid a lot of good writers a lot of money to make it more legit. Not sure who this Howard Eskin guy is or who his SOURCES are though.

I too have serious doubts as to whether or not Peyton would go to the same division as his brother. I still sort of think that that had something to do with Eli and Archie pulling the power play they did on the Chargers on draft day, years ago. I think a part of that decision was that Archie didn't want his boys duking it out in the same conference for their entire careers.

Peyton is a big boy and ultimately, he will probably go to whatever team offers him the best deal (and personnel) for him, but something tells me that Peyton wants to stay in the AFC on some level.

I totally agree. Divisions rivals are bad enough. No need to bring family into it.

Eskin is a Philly radio guy. I wouldn't put much stock into it. Philly sports talk is. Small time garbage.

I think that reasoning also takes the Jets out of the mix. NYC is Eli's town. No need to tip that apple cart.

$$$ will surely impact where he goes ... but i would certainly offer that he'd otherwise elect to be in the AFC, so that he could at least have the 'chance' to face his brother in a SB ... that has got to be something you can't put a $$$ figure on.

i couldn't see any circumstance that he'd elect to be in the same division as his brother. why would you want to do that -- really ...

all the points rafeal brings up are most relevant ... he is medically cleared, because 'medically' he doesn't have a problem as long as his spine is stabilized. Nerve regeneration is another problem that effects his quality of play ... but is not a threat to his health. Most pundits state 6-9 months is a realistic expectation. None of us, not even Drs can predict his final outcome!

So, where do we go ... well we know 1 thing for sure - Moore is under contract and not likely to go anywhere this year. Is he going to 'lead' us to a SB ... doubt it, but he is good enough to play in a SB with a great Defense and a capable Offense. Fix the OL and we'll have a capable Offense with some improvement from guys like Clay, Thomas and Gates - and another TE. Defense still needs another impact OL opposite Wake and improvement at S.

Signing Manning (and hope that he is ready to go by midseason) ... i don't buy into Manning being able to change his whole life of being a QB and becoming a Pennington. It's not about his 'intelligence' or cerebral ability ... he would have to remap his entire thought process -- not even remotely the same thing as adapting to a new system or scheme. Now, if Ross wants to take a flier ... let him continue to work until he is 100% ready to go -- Manning style ... i'm not sure anyone would disagree with that. That is not the same thing as signing him, giving him the reigns and letting him 'work' thru it. We have Moore, let him run with it until Peyton can SHOW is fully ready to go by OCT.

The last piece is as some have intimated ... what is Philbin willing to sign up for ?? Every coach knows that his success (or failure) is inherently tied to his QB. BAL and TB are the exceptions, but an easy example is: the JESTS are not winning a SB with Sanchez ... so, what level of risk is Philbin willing to take. I don't think we are going to draft a QB in rd 1 of the draft ... i believe it will either be Flynn or Manning in order to make us instant winners and potential playoff team (provided we make a couple good selections in the draft).

If we pick up Manning, hes going to make Philbin look like Don Shula for the next three years, lol.

I have a question that doesn't have anything to do with this, I just don't want to make another Manning thread.

He and Irsay are meeting this week, maybe their final meeting. Let's just say he gets released next week. I know he becomes a free agent right away and can technically sign with anyone before March 13.

But are we looking at a late February/March signing for whichever team he chooses...or could this stretch out into April/May? Well I know that it can, but what is most likely? I assume he may want to join a team before the draft (April 26) so he can influence the choices? (I don't mean actually have a say in the picks, I just mean teams might likely alter their choices if they have Manning and he knows that.) Granted, he might just want to take his time regardless.

Yea good question. I hope its sooner rather than later, especially for our sake. I assume its when the team can be convinced by their medical staff that he's good to go.

Id rather have Flynn or Griffin, so let Wash get him.

    He's old and damaged.

If he's the real deal, I don't think manning will worry about other teams draft situations or free agents. Manning, healthy manning, is an entire offense by himself and he knows it.

I think he'll spend almost the entire offseason making decision. He has no reason to rush. Teams will still pay top dollar for him in training camp if he wanted to wait that long. I know this may sound silly but...It's Peyton manning

    Here and there
I agree, this isnt something that will be quick and easy for any fan of the teams in play for Manning. it wont me march 13th or 14th and he will sign with someone. I can see this dragging out for at least up until a few days prior to the draft as teams get eliminated from 5 to 3 to 2 until his final decision as to who he will sign with. I'm sure each team will want a workout of some sort and maybe a reworkout and then sit downs with the HC OC GM and owner to talk about the offense and his role over all with the team.

As the battle goes on it will come down to best fit and yes money, as much as people wanna believe he will sign some great cap friendly deal, the last few teams will be upping the anti on Manning as a further incentive to play for them. He will not come cheap just by default, he's Peyton fkin Manning.
