Not really. He's more of a Jordy Nelson barring the right QB. Collie doesn't make the catches Hartline does. I really hope #82 becomes half the player that Joe Jurevicious or even Wayne Chrebet were. He's on his way. And for those of you who are offended by the comparisons: Dolphan or not you gotta give Chrebet his credit.
Agreed. A chance to procure his services with a negotiating window would be ideal. Otherwise just wait for him to be released. Probably wont get Tannehill there but Nick Foles, Brock Osweiler and Kirk Cousins could be in play in rounds 2-3. I agree though that the best way to approach Manning is to think of him as your starter, Moore as reserve and then rookie as 3rd string developmental player. Eh, Im not going to not go after him just because of past failures. Im not in favor of being the team that takes no risks especially when youre talking about a guy who is an all time great QB and was able to provide extremely high level of QB play pre injury and if he is just 3/4ths of what he was hes still a top 5 QB in the league with Brady Brees Eli and Rodgers So whats the problem? Too much optimism? People dont all want to dwell on the negative? Seriously dude, if you have nothing to do but mock people dont bother posting. In general there are 2 other things at play here: 1: If hes traded youre probably not giving up anything more then a low round pick. This is a Reggie Bush scenario. hes either getting cut or getting dealt somewhere Indy is willing to deal him for cheap because there is a 28M roster bonus due Peytons way on March 8 and in total hes over a 34M cap hit for Indy this year. Even after March 8th theyre stuck with that even if they trade him. 2: Favre and Warner both recently switched teams late in their careers and played very well. One made and NFC title game and one was 1 drive away from winning a Super Bowl.
I think this situation with Manning is a lose/lose thing Boik. We miss out we are hosed you go after him that opens up a whole set of problems. Negativity yes..... I don't like the idea at all.
Im all in for Peyton, however, I am not buying his "mentoring" program one stitch. IF he wanted to mentor, he'd renegotiate and stay in Indy. If he was a good mentor, the Colts wouldn't be a colossal disaster every time a back up came in.
Agree. Seeing as Manning has a home in Miami AND he grew up a Marino fan the idea of Manning wanting to play here is absolutely not far fetched. Now him being healthy enough to ever play again, that I find far fetched.
The doctors said in December that the fusion had healed. That is what they saw and why he was cleared to practice. What nobody has seen yet is the nerve regenerate. There is nothing that can be done about that. All you can do is hope that as he rehabs it eventually does. Generally, the regeneration starts immediately. That is why most can come back within a few weeks. Manning's nerve has not regenerated. It was actually expected to regenerate back in May. Nobody knew why it didn't. So they opted for further surgery to hopefully solve any problems in the area around the nerve. They can't actually fix the nerve. All they can do is try to remove anything around it that may be damaging the nerve and hope it fixes itself. Sometimes they just don't and the longer it goes with nothing happening the more likely it becomes that it never will.
For those mentioning trade: I think this would result in a huge cap hit on the Colts which would negate the very reason they are likely to cut him.
Damon Berryhill and Greg Olson. /does Tomahawk Chop while strapped to stretcher //Knows no one else will get this ///doesn't care
Youre allowed to be negative, just do it in a manner that doesnt come off as mocking other members please. I disagree with other peoples sentiments all the time but I try to do it in a manner that doesnt mock other peoples opinions. I think the cost of getting him in a trade wont be nearly what you think. Youre not talking 1st or 2nd round picks here. Youre talking late round picks. So whats the difference between using that late round pick on a QB like Chandler Harnish or BJ Coleman or using those picks to procure the services of Peyton Manning? Aside from the fact one is a proven HOFER and the draft pick would be a long shot at best to even make the team.... Heh, thats the way I feel about Weeden. Im allergic to players that come from video game offenses. Not really. if they do the trade before 3/8/12 the colts are pretty much free and clear for the most part. 28M of the 34.5M cap hit Manning is projected to have this year is in the form of a roster bonus due on 3/8/12. His base salary is 6.5M part of which is in the form of guaranteed money. His cap hit will not prevent a deal unless indy hangs on to him past March 8
But you can't make a trade until after the new league year starts, I don't think, which is, of course, after the bonus is due. See third question below: http://blogs.indystar.com/coltsinsider/ Of course, the reporter could be wrong, but I've seen it elsewhere.
I don't know if what I heard was accurate, but I have heard reports that if they trade him, the roster bonus is accelerated and they're going to take the hit immediately. From what I understand, they CAN'T trade him.

LaConfora is reporting the Colts made a decision weeks ago on Manning and will be cutting him loose before the Scouting Combine. I don't have a link just read it from a good source on FB.

What's a "growing legs" thread without the good doctor stopping by? Hey doc, hope all's been well, buddy.
If Philbin says Matt Flynn is going to be a great quarterback, we need to go after Flynn! I'd love to see Manning in a Phins jersey, but one huge hit and his career could be over.
Much like the national media not wanting Lebron to go to Miami, they dont want Peyton in Miami. Typical.
Peter King on NBC saying he suspects Manning retires, that his arm strength is not returning. Dungy says Manning will be a Colt or retired.
John Clayton said the same basic thing on the radio while I was driving just a little while ago, says he will retire or at the very least sit out a year.
No, that's the "hate when others are happy and hopeful" view expressed by "hate when others are happy and hopeful" people for quite some time now....because they are stoopid doodoo heads.
There's no reason for Peyton to not stay in Indy IMO. He wants to end his career there. The city of Indianapolis wants him to retire as a Colt. He knows he may not be healthy. Indy knows he may not be healthy. Therefore they should both sit down, tear up his old contract, and restructure a deal to keep him there for at least 2012. If he's healthy enough to play at a high level, he's the starter and Luck spends a year learning behind him while Indy uses the year figuring out how to properly re-build the franchise around Luck. If he's at 70%, he starts roughly the first quarter or half of 2012 to both ease Luck in and to allow Peyton to retire on the field and as a Colt. Either way, it lets him finish in Indy w/o jeopardizing Luck's future there. Then, following the season, if for some reason his nerves make a full recovery, they reassess the situation and his options for 2013 and take it from there IMO.
I just wasn't sure which party represented the "stoopid doodoo heads" but I'm like 99% certain after re-reading it.
