IIRC we both talked about not wanting a mercenary. I think the goal should always be to hire a guy that you believe has a chance to develop into a long term coach/administrator for you. I have always preached consistency over the reactionary "let's blow it all up and start over crowd". That was my main beef with Parcells, since IMO it almost guaranteed that we'd be starting over in a few years. Although I also complained quite a bit about how he treated people and that his philosophies were outdated.

It does appear that Ireland is trying to step out of Bill Parcells' shadow, dismantling the last of the Parcells coaching selections and bringing in his own selections. Well, his and Stephen Ross' selections.

No more excuses and pointing fingers at Parcells. Ireland, this is the team YOU put together. If the Dolphins fail and you need to find out who's at fault, you need only look in the mirror. I just hope we can TRADE Henne and get something for him rather than just cut him. Chicago could use him.

Our team has an offensive flavor now, with an offensive minded head coach, a former offensive coordinator turned head coach now offensive coordinator again...and a young untested defensive backs coach now our defensive coordinator. I know we've neglected offense for years in favor of defense. I just hope we dont take a big sip of stupid and swing the pendelum tot he other side of the spectrum and become a defensive joke that weak assed teams at will can score on us.

I'm cautiously optimistic and hoping Coyle is a young Don Shula, an untested DB coach who started his true coaching career as DC of the Detroit Lions before becoming the legend he did and not another Eric Mangini. Sherman's credentials are well known, so no worries there regarding competence.

Big step and good news when Ireland reported that Philbin had autonomy in hiring his staff. I would much rather that Philbin is making the choices rather than Ireland, Ross or Parcells were making it for him.
Its hard not to be optimistic even if we are all gun shy and steadily looking for something bad just over the next hill. The Dolphins and their fans are way overdue some good things happening.

Can somebody explain to me where Coyle came from and his credentials? The first time I heard his name was a few days ago.

I am starting to get a little excited about this team, should I stop before they break hearts again?

So I'm browsing this morning and see in a signature that I am actually missed by someone. So this one is for you Stringer Bell......

Within 14 hours of this post and without warning, the woman I loved for 18 years told me it was over. Nothing really mattered after that nugget of information. I spent a year insane or at least unstable. But I ask you about the post above: "How prophetic was that?"

Sucks to hear about your loss. However, I am a firm believer in that everything happens for a reason. Anyway, GLAD to have you back!
