I don't see it happening, but that's just me and my pessimistic self. However, if this were to somehow happen then I think we have to neglect going after "playmakers" in FA and the draft. We would need to get this man some protection. Sign Grubbs, resign Carey, and draft Riley Reiff with our 1st. I would then move Incognito back to RG and let him, Carey, and Jerry compete for the starting job. I'd also pick up some more prospects later in the draft to help give our OL some depth. Manning will be able to dominate with the current weapons we have on offense. He'd probably turn Fasano into a top 10 TE. So, if we were to pick up Manning somehow, I want us to only focus on offensive line this free agency and this draft.
Not a big fan of the move, the neck is risky, and we still would need to draft a young gun because he could be gone fast.
His legs are fine, we need him to regenerate cells in his vertebrae. He should go to Germany and do that Stem Cell thing Kobe and Christopher Reeves did. EDIT: Looks he already did the treatment, though not in Germany.
It depends on the cost. In terms of Peyton's salary and how much the Colts want in return. I could settle for giving up our 3rd round pick, but I don't think I would give up more than that. Adding Peyton could do wonders for our lockerroom in terms of maturity and the pursuit of perfection. That in itself is worth a 3rd. It's funny though, you think Philban would want to develop/mold/draft/sign a young up and coming QB that he could develop into a elite QB rather than going after a QB that is on the downward spiral of his career. If we give up our 3rd for Peyton we could use our 2nd on a QB prospect to grow behind Manning.
As much as I like Manning he is old and injured, go with Flynn. Miami can't formally show interest in Flynn as long as he is still on GB's roster. And wouldn't be to their advantage if they did and are planning on going after him.
I don't want Miami to be remembered as "that place where Peyton Manning became a less intelligent version of Stephen Hawking".
It could have a great upside.....But!!!! If he is traded for, its going to cost us some valuable picks and if something happens and he can't play or his career is shortened ala ..Trent Green then it would be devastating to the organization. Manning has been a great quarterback but with the type of injury he received, one wrong hit and his career is over. However if he was picked up and he didn't have any lasting after affects from his injury it would be a great pickup and an immediate upgrade to our offense..
I`ve been torn back and forth with the thought of it but now I`m leaning towards `why not`. It obviously depends on his health but acquiring a guy like Manning, wow, that would be exciting to watch. I would only hope we have a definite plan B just in case, possibly a later round draft or a trade and move up.
What about "the place where he became the first QB to win a Super Bowl with two different teams" (as a starter)?
Do you want to be the guy that puts Payton Manning into retirement/wheelchair? perhaps players will be scared to go in hard on him...
I'm down for it but i'd cringe in fear every time he got sacked. The O-Line would have to be top notch for me to sleep well at night.
That'd be fine, but if there's any possibility of the Stephen Hawking thing, I don't wanna witness it...... at least not in a Dolphins uni. Jets uni would be ok. Then NY's 2 best QBs would be remembered as wearing either a dress or a wheel chair.
Why? I mean, from Manning's perspective... sure. But from our perspective... what do we have to lose other than money? Any contract he signs is gunna have protections in it for the team. And its not like Ross is hurting for money. It's a no brainier for Miami if Peyton wants to play...
Glad we arent showing our hand in Flynn. A) he is under contract still considering its still 2011 season. and 2) He will be a free agent, for negotiation purposes we shouldnt show our hand this early anyways.
You want to make an impact in our locker room. What message do you think it sends to guys like Dansby, Burnette, Wake...when you sign Manning. I bet, youd also see JT come back for one season with Peyton.
I'll say this, though, and Sick kinda touched on it; You don't NEED to let anything leak that you're showing interest in anyone. This is what pisses me off about this FO. They hide **** they have no business hiding, and let stuff leak that has no business leaking. Barry Jackson is usually pretty on point, and he's reporting it's either Flynn, RG3 or Peyton. Then again, I have a feeling that the "The Dolphins have shown no interest in Flynn" was probably leaked on purpose. So, expect him to be the next QB of the Miami Dolphins.
Yeah but Sick touches a lot of stuff. I agree with your frustration. Miami seems to do a great job of tipping their hand by trying to "not tip their hand" in a consistently similar manner. Our subterfuge is becoming predictable.
Not sure where everyone thinks Mannings injury is a career ender as well.. A 2011 Journal of Spine study found 40 NFL players who underwent the same surgery, and resumed their careers fully. This includes 2 on the colts... http://thechart.blogs.cnn.com/2011/09/09/inside-peyton-mannings-surgery/
With a green screen behind a wheeled device used for transporting people unable to move on their own, you can accomplish anything really.
One other thing to consider: If you're Ross, and you KNOW Peyton Manning sells out season tickets for X number of years if he signs (not mention merchandising), isn't that in itself enough to take a risk? If it doesn't work out, at least the reward of that risk was worth it.
I'd bring him in if the contract were entirely incentive based and he cost little in exchange draft pick wise. If the down side is minimized, then I don't see a problem. In the very least he can still help mentor Moore & whatever QB we potentially draft or sign as the #2 or #3.
You do the deal and put him through the hardest physical possible. If he fails, the NFL will rescind the trade
This. The Dolphins don't want to show ANY interest in Matt Flynn. They do not want the Packers to know if we are all hot and bothered over him.
