Today the NFL announced that DT Paul Solia will be attending the Pro Bowl as an alternate for the first time in his career. I really hope all of our young players can really make the next step like this guy did. At one point he was being sent home and questionable to even make the cut. I credit sporano on this one, really sticking with him. Solia really deserves this and I'm glad he gets to go back to his Polynesian roots, I hope he keeps it up and can become a true elite Nose. We can't let this guy walk.
This is actually bad news, now his contract price just went up, so if they do manage to land Manning, no way can we resign him, ditto Flynn.
Soliai had a good year in 2010 but 2011 was just avarage and according to Pro Football Focus he was just grading out as the 38th best defensive tackle! I'm not sure why he is a Pro Bowl alternate at all, probably because there are just not enough 3-4 NT's! No matter if we switch to a 4-3 or stay with the 3-4 (which i prefer) i wouldn't mind if we let him go, he'll probably demands too much money anyways and we need that money to sign other (better) players!
There are probably 2 or 3 teams that could be fielded comprised of players NOT going to the Pro Bowl that would be better than the 2 teams playing.
Frankly, I'm stunned by his selection as an alternate to the Pro Bowl. We have to let him walk, because he's just not worth the money.
