    Really? how?

I love it when people create scenarios and then base their critiques on things they created in their heads.

Also creating scenarios where it will fail because of things that happened in the past.

In case you missed it, Jeff Fisher... the best NFL head coach candidate out there... interviewed with the Dolphins and Rams. He picked the Rams because, basically, Steven Ross is a buffoon. I didn't make that up in my head. Google it for all the details. It happened. I promise.

The Dolphins then went on a world-wide thorough coaching search (just look at them go!) and hired Joe Philbin. He was, apparently, the best candidate out of himself, Larry the Cable Guy, and Master Shake from Aqua Teen Hunger Force.

probably somewhere in the area of 8-8 or Fisher's career record of .542

That is the reason? Everything I read, other than crazy fans, didn't mention that once.

So basically in your world the Dolphins had only one choice. After that it was bottom of the barrel.

    Larry,

I remember reading your posts right before the Fisher decision and you had spent a lot of time watching his career. You also laid out a good argument for why he would be a good coach. Its obvious ou likes Fisher as a candidate. However Think you have become biased so that anyone other than Fisher is a bad hire. There is nothing wrong with being reserved or doubtful, but I think you need to be a little open minded too.

What I read said Ross did not want to give Fisher ultimate say in personnel matters. He wanted Jeff Ireland to have that power. If you're hiring Jibby Joe-Bob Whilbean, offensive coordinator of the college-powerhouse-offense-of-the-year-of-the-week, then, yeah. Don't give the guy the power. This is Jeff Fisher we're talking about. 16 seasons in the NFL as a head coach. All he wanted is the ability to avoid another Vince Young situation, and I cannot blame him at all. According to his history, he is not someone who would abuse that power. You give him that power, and you do not hesitate.

That, to me, in a nutshell, is Steven Ross choosing Ireland over Fisher. That is the very definition of 'buffoonery', to me.

    Mediocre.

Mediocre, yup that is Jeff Fisher in a nut shell.

I saw the Vince Young situation and I saw a coach I do not want on my team.

You might be right. However, I have taken some time to let this whole thing settle in, and it hasn't changed anything. I am still seething.

I said this in another post, and I'll say it again. This is like having a shot at signing Tom Brady, but he picks the Falcons because your team's owner wouldn't let him call audibles. Then, they go and sign Kyle Orton. Then, you have to listen to how 'smart' Orton sounded in his press conference.

I am absolutely beside myself. Fire. Ross. Now. I wish there was a way.

Accept every decision like a good little fan. Got it.

I'm not trying to piss in everyone's cornflakes here, guys. I'm really not. I consider myself to be a very objective person, or at least, I try very hard to be. My Spidey-sense is tingling out-of-control on this one. I'd 'like' to say I hope I'm wrong, but, honestly... I really do not care anymore. This time, I know I'm right. Deep down. Sorry. I'm done.

This list is correct if you are only talking about 2011 teams. Otherwise, you're dead wrong. Just off the top, last years Packer D was good and the Saints Superbowl D was chock full of play makers and always caused turn overs and made plays. But when you look at things black and white, you usually end up wrong.

2004 and 2005 Patriots were 1st and 2nd in defensive scoring.

The offenses were good, but those were defensive teams.

And 2002 Patriots were good at neither.

In listening to him on the internet, Philbin appears intelligent and very down to Earth. Based on comments from players and others he has coached around, he communicates very well and he is very detail oriented. Until his name came up after the season in regards to his interviewing for the job, I admit I had never heard of him before.

Right now, what I am happy about in regards to the head coaching position of the Dolphins is that the head coach next year will not be Tony Sparano. I am certainly willing to give Philbin time to show if he is the right hire or not. He was certainly not my first choice for the position, but he is now the HC and he deserves the opportunity to show what he can do in this position, until I decide if this was a good hire or not.

I have thought that the HC hires the Dolphins have made over the last 15 years were good hires at the time they were made. Unfortunately none of these hires turned out to be the next ,"Shula". So while I hope for the best with the Philbin hire, I will certainly take a wait and see approach this time. I certainly wish him the best.

You sure don't know me very well if you think that. My take is Philbin is now the HC and I'm going to wait and see before I bash the hire.
I've stated here that I'm not a big fan of rookie head coaches but everyone deserves a chance to prove themselves.
It is obvious that Ross is secure with Ireland and it is his decision because he owns the football team.
To me there is no use in whining about the situation before it even begins. Let it unfold and see what develops before freaking out.
It is a mentality like yours that sours the fanbase and makes us all look bad.

Honest man, I wasn't trying to be insulting, reading your posts it's what crossed my mind. I was on the Fisher bandwagon but because I think he's a very good, but not a savior as you seem to think he is. Losing him to St Louis was not the end of the world and I think you need a little perspective here.

Continuously whining over nothing more than your "spidey-sense" is insulting or at least annoying to other people who're assessing the situation based on the logic and the facts that we have.

Looking at things from an emotional stand-point like you're doing is a mistake. No offense.

People just need to give Philbin a chance. So what he wasn't your first choice, wasn't mine either. No reason to act like a little kid that's pissed off at Santa.

Really don't think it should take a whole lot of arguing for an intelligent person to accept that.

That's ridiculous. Of all the people available, he was the best choice. The haters are now going to say that Ross should have convinced people not available to come coach? Sigh, this is ridiculous. How come Ross didn't resurrect Lombardi? Cause he sucks.

Lol. So, Fisher was a good coach cause he didn't win a lot in a tough division now? Unbelievable. There 3 & 4 year records were winners, Fisher's first 4 was as a loser. Excuse after excuse. Other people won with that owner, Fisher barely did. Who sis they have at QB? Oh only McNair, with Eddie George and Derrick Mason. If Cowher had that, he'd have won SBs instead of lose them, before Big Ben.

We'll see. Though again, offenses are more important than they were when Fisher was relevant. His last good season? When he got stellar play from Collins.

Ok, Philbin's record doesn't count because he wasn't HC. Then out of the other side of your mouths, Fisher's record as a HC doesn't count because of Adama, tough division, whatever other excuse....I mean seriously? When does it end?

Nice. I didn't say Philbin was the ONLY reason. He is the biggest. You can pretend I didn't give any evidence at all if it makes you feel better. I give evidence that points towards the direction I think, you give "but, but Aaron Rodgers!!!!". That's weak on your part. Rodgers has even said his success is due to Philbin.

Yeah, every coach discusses quarterback rating differential with the media at their inaugural press conference. :pity:

    Big surprise.

Not dead wrong at all. The Saints had a good D the year they won, they were more known as a big time offense. Nothing in my post indicated, those teams took the field without the other units that make up a team or that they sucked on those units. Please stop holding me responsible for your misunderstandings, simply because you and Fisher are sittin' in a tree, k-i-s-s-i-n-g.

I haven't heard any 'facts' supporting this hiring. IMO, there aren't any. Reading this thread is like reading the old 'Culpepper Manifesto' from a few years ago, which, at the time, I thought was brilliantly written and I bought into it. It seemed to have lots of sound 'logic' and 'facts' supporting it. However, it was ultimately just a huge spin on those facts, and completely wrong. We all know how the Brees/Culpepper thing worked out. Pretty much the same way the Harbaugh/Sparano thing from last season.

Philbin might turn out to be a great head coach. For the sake of the sanity of Dolphins fans everywhere, I hope he does. However, there is not one single shred of 'fact' to support that. If you look at history, it does not look good for him. The cards are actually stacked against him. If people would take off their aqua-and-orange colored glasses for only a minute and look at this objectively, they'd see what I'm talking about.

However, it looks like that isn't going to happen, so... I'm sorry, guys. I hope another Dan Marino falls from the sky. Otherwise...
