What incentive does Henne actually have to sign with us instead of say ... oh ... with the Jets? And what about his play the last few years leads anyone to think he would better than Matt Freaking Moore? Alex Smith was a first overall draft pick, he had talent. Henne was a late second round pick with a good arm and questionable pretty much everything else. Let it die!
OK, that sounds good. Let's have them. I'll do two for you - The 2009 Jets MNF game and the second Pats game that same season.
Because waiting 5 years to SEE IF you have a franchise Qb is WAYYYYYYYY to long in todays, Qb friendly, NFL!!! Henne barely started showing signs of improvement after being in the NFL 3 seasons!! Good coaching or bad coaching, he's had some decent defenses in his tenure here. The theory of "If Alex Smith, why not Henne", Smith is a very rare example. How would you answer this one? If Mark Sanchez, why not Henne? He went to two straight AFC Championship games! What this franchise needs is a bonefied Qb not some 5 year projects and I don't hate Henne, I just want someone much better than a Qb whos lucked his way into a championship game or two, and I definitely want one better than Henne will ever be...
If Alex Smith what???? The SF coaching staff made it a point to hide the QB as much as possible. I'm not sure that is something we should be striving for.
But what if Henne is on the 5 year plan and we are in year 5 next year? It just seems a total waste to let him go when we have invested this much time in him.
"If Alex Smith can lead his to team a conference championship game, why can't Henne?" It was just too long to type all that.
The question should be, if Chad Henne, why is Alex Smith's team winning? Because Chad Henne and Matt Moore played about as well as Smith this season. The difference is that the 49ers ran the ball better than us and their defense was way better. Let's not conflate team success strictly with QB play. Yeah Smith played well against the Saints. It was his best game of the year. But that team has been winning mostly because they play really good defense and don't play in a really tough division.
Haven't you realized that it is now a QB driven league and playing defense and running the ball are no longer factors. The only thing that matters is the QB doing everything himself. Hell even when Henne put the ball in WR's hands it was still his fault. A Dolphin QB has to have Marino like qualities and be able to will his own passes to be caught. He must also be able to telepathically channel the success of the defense or he is a failure.
I caught a lot of flak for saying "throw Henne on the heap of useless University of Michigan QB's", and backing it up with statistics, which outside of Tom Brady shows that, yes, there is a heap of useless University of Michigan QBs to have come through the league. Now, it appears that Henne will indeed be thrown on that heap.
I don't recommend it. I used to think that way with 1 or 2 posters here, but I decided it's better to be able to see their posts for the comic relief.
No thanks! The Miami Dolphins are not what they once were and its thanks to the Qb play thru the last 12 seasons. Henne makes an excellent backup though but seeing how the team has one already in Matt Moore why waste Henne's time
I don't use the ignore feature either MC but the funny thing is I've had people use it on me but for some reason they can't resist the urge to read my posts so they turn it back off. As I have said before you can love me or hate me but you can't ignore me....
Who said Henne can't? I think most people just realize that you're better off trying with someone who is a better QB. Bad QBs win all the time. I mean Mark Sanchez made it to the AFCCG, would you want him to be your starting QB????
I find the entire premise of this thread ridiculous. So since Alex Smith sucked and got better, so might Henne? Okay why not J.P Losman then, I mean some guys just take longer. How about Akili Smith and Jamarcus Russel. Hey where are Brady Quinn and Matt Leinart while we are at it?
I think that we need to be more objective about Henne, especially now that he's a free agent. Let's try separating him from our team. If he was never a Dolphin would we even consider his free agency noteworthy? I think that he does have some untapped potential, but I think that the guy that we already have on our roster has shown a higher ceiling with less game experience.
fixed that post for you. Seems your keyboard left out a few important strokes. Adding to your wise post: -For Henning's abysmal career, his offenses ranked in the 39th percentile in passing yards, passing TDs, and ppg. (I understand why he was fired so often, but I can't for the life of me understand why he was always hired else where.) -Only 4 times did his passing offense rank better than 16th in scoring. 9 times it ranked 23rd or worse. - 7 times his passing offense ranked 24th or worse in yardage. -Only ONCE in his career did his offense rank better than 10th in scoring; however, 10 times it ranked 21st or worse. 5 times it was 26th or worse. -Henning's career "point differential" is in the 43rd percentile, while his "yardage differential" is in the 51st percentile (which is still not good). Only 4 seasons did his team's "point differential" rank better than the "yardage differential". This indicates his offenses have routinely been less effective in the redzone than at moving the ball, just as we witnessed.
Barry Sanders must be terrible at sniffing the endzone as well because Henning's rushing offense in Detroit ranked no better than 19th in TDs. Barry with 3 TOTAL TDs in his 2nd season with Henning as OC? What's wrong with that guy?! He sucks! Get a new running back! *In the Lions 3 season before Henning: Barry & Detroit's rush offense ranked #1, 4, 2 in TDs...... and #1, 1, 5 in YPA. *Then Henning arrived in 1992: Barry & Detroit's rush offense plummets to #19 & 19 in TDs........ and #8 & 7 in YPA. *Then Henning is fired after 1993: Barry & Detroit's rushing offense steadily increases to #11, 8, 7, 3 in TDs..... and #1, 3, 2, 1 in YPA. (During Henning final 9 years, 5 times featured a rushing offense ranked worse than 25th in YPA and worse than 20th in TDs.) If Dan Henning couldn't figure out a way to maximize Barry Sanders' ridiculous talent & potential, then how the heck do people believe Henne (or any young, developing QB) would be any less hindered, especially in an offense predicated on a previous quarterback?
I have a hard time seeing Henne starting for any team, Denver and Cleveland included. He will be lucky to be on a roster IMO.
Yes..... because there's really no definitive way to say Henne wasn't significantly impaired by Henning after Dan's lengthy career featuring terrible QB development, inadequate offensive production, and consistently underwhelming QB play indicates otherwise. When you have a talented QB who showed promise during his 1st year as a starter but then never turned the corner, and you have an OC/past HC (Henning) whose underachieving offenses featured more INTs than TDs during 90% of his 20+ year career, you can't discredit the OC's potential blame in the QB's production woes. You just can't. The statistics are more supportive of Henning hindering Henne than Henne hinding himself.
