I'm sooo glad he went to the Rams!!! Take him and his .542 winning %. Listen, a lot of Dolphin fans may me upset by this, but they need to realize something. How many "veterans" do well in their 2nd stint? I can think of only Vermiel. So relax....This guy was an average coach with a subpar postseason record. His draft picks basically sucked except for Kenny Britt. Quite frankly, Jeff Ireland has done better in drafts than Fisher. Was he the biggest "name" out there? Yes. Was he the best coach. No way in hell!! This is great news for the Dolphins!! Also..the NFL is changing. Young coaches with different mindsets are the future. Take a look at the 49ers. Take a look at the Steelers. How about the cowboys? All fresh minds with great futures. Let's grab a young mind and move forward. So, let Jeff Fisher take his .542 winning % to St. Louis. Let him have total control. He WILL rue the day he made that choice. We are free to grab a young stud and move in the right direction. While I'm no Ross fan, I think he made the right move in not giving Fisher total control. There's one guy I give total control to and that's Cower, but apparently that is not going to happen. Personally, I try and grab Pete Carmichael as our offense can use some help. Sign Flynn to compete with Moore for QB position and draft Jonathon Martin. Imagine our QB being protected by Jake Long, Pouncy and Martin for the next 8 years!!!
i wouldnt be throwing a party either if we got Fisher. Throwing up maybe. Glad we didnt get him. so overrated its untrue.
I'm just sad he didn't wait longer so some newspaper on a quiet news day could go with the front page headline: FISHER CUT BAIT
Fisher fan or not, it is disappointing that the guys who did want him (Ross n Co...) could not land him. It does not speak well of our front office. I will go even one step further and say if Fisher fails to improve the Rams after he hand picked going there it will make our office look even more inept for pursuing him in the first place.
I'm also glad Fisher didn't choose us. I am very unimpressed. There are very few coached who could be with a team and, even with luck, not get to the playoffs 4 times in 16 plus seasons. We were throwing way too much money at a guy who is over rated. Let the Rams have him. I am almost to the point of celebrating us not landing Fisher. Like I posted in another thread: prettiest girl at the prom...because there were no other pretty girls there. Move on. I feel there are better candidates out there.
They wanted him, but not enough to give him everything he wanted which was too much. That is not failure in and of itself. If Fisher turns out to be a better coach than barely over .500, then not giving him what he wanted will have been a mistake. until that happens they refused to overpay and that's not a bad thing. The point is, they didn't go in there and give everything they could and didn't get him. They gave everything they were willing to give to a career .548 coach. I just don't see the failure in that.
How many times have the Dolphins gone 13-3? Haven't been since the 1980s. Haven't even been 12-4 since 1990. People overlook that the Titans had one of the worst owners in football, do you know how many players they lost to free agency? Not to mention forced Vince Young on him.
Fisher had McNair (the franchise QB you have to have to win a SB), Eddie George (a beast runner), Frank Wycheck (a very good TE), Dyson, Mason and a tough defense during his career. He made it to the SB on a fluke and questionable play and was average overall. I slept solid last night and its time to move on.
