I would have been content with fisher but I really like the idea of getting our 0wn guy. These were my original 1st and 2nd choices and now we can get one of them!!! #1 choice - Joe Philbin (architect of the packers offense) (we know he doesn't call the plays but I think is still "THE GUY") I think with his son passing that he will be motivated to do something great in honor of him. Oh yeah he is an offensive guy which is what we really need and could bring along a promising QB in Matt Flynn. #2 choice - Rob Chudzinski - Another offensive guy. Helped develop Cam Newton...if we did move up for RGIII...this is the guy we need to coach. Either one of these guys will call the plays! Daboll has been an upgrade but were still weak at the OC position. Both of these guys have never been a HC and deserve a shot. I'd be pleased either way. We see what offenses with weak D and can do in New England and Green Bay. 13-3 and 15-1. Our D is already good we need our offense to step up bigtime. This is why we need and offensive minded coach. NO D side of the ball coaches ie. Zimmer. Thoughts?
Careful what you wish for... Remember Cam Cameron... Offense was key then too... that got us a stellar 1 and 15 record.
Well yeah...but he was considered this offensive guru before he took the Miami job, like the guys above.
Only way Ross saves face now is to fire Ireland and hire Cowher. Or Gruden. Anyone else will be considered a failure unless / until that coach produces.
Imagine if we start going after Chudzinski and he chooses Tampa Bay...Talk about a completely BOMBED coaching search for the 2nd straight year. But I'm pretty sure the Glazer's are terrible...but then that would be even worse if he chose them. I doubt either will be coaching. Cowher has turned down 3 teams apparently, dolphins are probably one.
Not knocking Philbin as I know nothing of him but admit his name did not excite me. I do not know how to say it and mean no disrespect to the man but can he really ever think straight again ? I have grown children the age of the son he just lost. Being me ? if that sad thing ever happened to me, as it did to him, I seriously doubt I could ever think straight ever again. Losing a child has got to be the hardest thing a parent could go through. I would rather be poor, live in a cardboard box and eat out of a dumpster and not lose a child and I would be happy doing so.
I tend to agree that maybe now's the wrong time for Philbin. But I think we sniffing around the right tree. I think we should look at Packers QB coach Tom Clements.
I literally no nothing about him other than he has Devin Hester on his Special Teams Unit. So I don't have much of an opinion, other than I hope Hester didn't make Taub.
Chud hasn't been asked for an interview, and considering we interviewed him for the OC job last year and gave it to someone else, chances are they already decided against him. I think if one of the goals of this hiring process was to land some kind of name or do something to invigorate ticket sales etc, that ship has sailed. That doesn't mean we cant get ourselves a good coach however, so heres hoping.
This is a football forum sensitivity goes out the window in most cases. In my opinion Dave Toub will be a terrible hire. He's been around football for a long time and is only a special teams coach. Not impressed.
But you are impressed with an OC that you admit has little to do with play calling and is nothing more than a figurehead for a completely stacked offensive unit?
I am intrigued by an OC in Philbin even though he doesn't call the plays, however, he is the OC and is heavily involved in the gameplanning (since becoming the GB OC in 2007 the offenses have been top 10 each year). He has the winning experience (Superbowl) and is a part of a system that is highly successful. He could very well bring Matt Flynn with him. I don't want to trade up for RG3. With our first overall pick we have a chance at Blackmon. Flynn - Blackmon - Marshall - Bush - In a highly successful offensive system that won GB a superbowl. Yeah I'll take a shot with this set up.
the problem with philbin is he just lost his son who knows if he is in any condition to even think about football.
It's much more impressive than Toub. Yes he was a ST coach as well but he also was a defensive back coach, a QB coach, was well-rounded in the college ranks and had many NFL ties. Not much of a comparison.
Not necessarily trying to compare them, just destroying your contention because he is a ST coach he can't be a head coach.
Philbin doesn't call the plays in Green Bay and his demeanor reminds me FAR too much of Cam Cameron. PASS. Chud is a good option but is probably 2-3 years away from being ready as a HC. My choice right now is Toub. That is a guy who demands respect, is a leader of men and pays attention to all phases of the game. Plus there are many coaches out there that believe he should be a head coach now.
The problem isn't that he's a special teams coach...it's just since he's been in the NFL that's all he's done.. 2001 - 2012 a ST coach! He had successfull seasons as a ST coach starting in 2006 when Hester came into the NFL. Like I said Harbaugh much more well rounded. "Not just a ST coach" Toub is. That's all he is. Contention continued......BUM.. BUM.. BUUMMM!!!!
U know what though even if Ross hires Toub...I'm still happy as long as we get Matt Flynn. That's my main concern.
One never knows about such things. His wife may not be able to take being reminded about how he died driving by that river every day knowing that her baby boy cried out for help and no one came. A move could be the perfect answer to that problem. If it were me I would want a change of scenery!
I agree completely. I think Fylnn fits right in to our playbook. Draft a pair of linemen to compliment Pouncey, Long, and Carey. Flynn will have all the time in the world to throw, as long as B-Marshall does not drop them
