I am making a point also, marshall gets a pass on the drops because he has actually produced something in his career.Ginn just dropped passes as a wr and not much else.Understand.

Funny how I was supposed to come to that conclusion after reading your post. You do have a way with words....

Everyone knows you'd call it a HUGE DROP if it barely touched his fingertips after he jumped 8 feet in the air. So shaddup....

Tell us how many times Tedd Ginn has actually done something as an NFL Wr?

BUT what you said is not true. There were only the few who hated Ginn who would do that, not 99 percent.

He drops too many balls. Also he is not clutch in the redzone.
Lack of consistency. He really lacks mental focus and makes mistakes at key times. Meaning he drops balls that hit him right in the hands on critical 3rd downs that would extend drives.
When Marshall catches the ball he always does that turn around, stop, hitch which allows the defender time to make a play.
With his size and strength an elite WR would be tearing up the YAC. He just doesn't break away. He also lacks true big play ability.
Calvin Johnson does it all. That is why he is elite.

All the top receivers drop balls. Even Calvin Johnson.

He's one of the leaders in first downs for receivers this season. Top 10, I believe.

I can see your issues with him in the red zone. However, that doesn't stop him from being elite. He still gets in the end zone.

When you've done what Marshall has done throughout his career, you will be called elite. He's not the best, but he's up there and at worst top 5.

Edit: Made a mistake. Stevie Johnson, not Calvin Johnson, had as much dropped passes than Marshall last season. And he doesn't have 2 less than Marshall, this season. That was in 08. Don't know what got with me there, lol.

Also, Killer, say what you want about his lack of YAC, but I don't think it matters. He's become a much better vertical threat with us. He's increased his average to 15.3.

I agree he has gotten better here this year. Seems like he has grown up from his head problems too. Not the mental mistakes we saw last year.
Anyways Anon thanks for the intelligent reply. It is nice to have a convo about it without being personally attacked.

Come on Oz. Last week's CBS crew pointed out several times during their telecast that Marshall is among the league leaders in drops this year. He has all of the physical tools in the world and is easily the best WR the Dolphins have had in a long time. It's mental at this point and to his credit, he is better this year than last. Hopefully he will continue to improve. He's not elite yet, just very good.

    Edit:

    Does Marshall make this catch?

Go back and read my reply again. I said he's dropped some passes. Not one person is ever saying otherwise. However, not all of the drops are his fault. Hell, two of them in the last two weeks were GREAT plays by the defense and he still got blamed just because he got his mitts on the ball.

He is damned sure elite! Absolutely, 100 percent possitively and with better Qb play, we've seen the improvements from the Qb...

My list of elite players at a position is only 3 deep. Elite means best of the best. Are you saying you would rather have Marshall than C. Johnson, V. Jackson or L. Fitzgerald?

If I already had Orande Gadsden, I might take a Vincent Jackson over Marshall but if I were starting a Wr group and had a choice between BM or VJ, I would snatch Marshall up in a milisecond.

Just for the heck of it...Marshall and Fitz are extremely close in catches, yards, and tds. I don't think Fitz "looks" as dominant with average guys at QB. While I would obviously agree that Marshall has dropped balls he should have caught, I think I still have to call him "elite."

Anyone remember that non-drop failed TD opportunity (settled for a FG that drive) where he plain ran out of bonds? QB's fault.

Yep it was a dumb play. Does not take away the fact that his Qb last season and the begining of this season was nothing to write home about....

I would take Marshall over Vincent Jackson as well. I do believe he's an elite receiver. I don't agree with some artificial cutoff at 3. IMO what matters is that the receiver makes enough plays and draws enough coverage to help the rest of the team. Marshall is clearly among the league leaders in production so he's making enough plays and you often see him draw the coverage when they give you the wide shots. For example, on the beautiful pass from Moore to Bess where it was looped in to the left side of the endzone, they showed the starting coverage. It was a single high safety and he was aligned way over to the right where Marshall was. I t wasn't a true double b/c he didn't stay with him, but his alignment gave him no chance to get back to Bess despite that looping pass.

I also don't agree that it's a mental thing. Marshall has never caught the ball cleanly. He doesn't pluck the ball often. He usually double catches. He did that at UCF, in Denver and now here. It's just not one of the things he's good at. But he's good at enough other things that he is still an elite WR.

You gotta be kidding with that Vincent Jackson crap.

There are only three elite WR's:

    IN ORDER:

    Andre Johnson
    Larry Fitzgerald
    Calvin Johnson

Then there is the second group..which is headed by Brandon Marshall, Hakeem Nicks, Roddy White, Greg Jennings etc..
