I know a lot of you are excited about Moore and think he could be our answer at QB. I believe he is a fantastic back up and mediocre starter. Hopefully his play this first half knocks the star dust out of peoples eyes and our need for a QB is re-enforced.
Until you end up with: Ben R Tom b Peyton M Aaron R Drew B you can always upgrade at QB. But what if we pick 10 and there is nobody there to pick. Trade the farm? Reach? Trade down because you know, trading down is so easy?
Yes, trade the farm.. Something has to give sometime.. We win enough to keep away from a top QB draft and not enough to make it to the playoffs or a SB. So when do we take the plunge for a top tier QB?
The need to do whatever it takes to get either Luck or RG3 this draft i believe, they cant sit around on this, this year. We cant afford to pick up another 2nd rd gamble like Beck and Henne and waste another 3-4 years, I think we have a strong foundation right now we just need a good leader out there and we can compete easily.
Or you could throw mad cash at Matt Flynn. He of the 480 yards and 6 TDs today. He'll be an unrestricted free agent. Then you use that Top 10 pick on whatever you want. Matt Moore is a fantastic backup IMO. Fantastic. Has all the qualities you want in one.
Moore is a far better starter then back up though. Have to see how the offseason breaks out, new HC/OC, let's see what they want to do.
This can not be stated and drilled home enough....Moore should be our long term clipboard holder if others in the Flynn, or drafted QB mode come into camp to battle it out. Having a quality backup is valuable too.
Thank the Almighty that the Colts lost today, Polian has said he will take Luck, and the pick is not for trade, thusly sparing us months of "trade for Luck!!!" le merde'
Matt Flynn did that with a 14-1 team, just like Matt Cassel went 11-5 with the Pats who also have a good team. The Matt Cassel in Kansas is not what the Chiefs expected. Matt Flynn can stay right there and I'd like to take my chances elsewhere.
Sort of, Cassel had a outstanding 2010 with 27 Td's to 7 int's. Flynn's started 3 gms, he knows the GB offense inside and out, "if" we hire someone from GB for OC or HC he'd make sense.
Honestly I hope the Colts pickup Luck so I can see this all unfold and slap them in the face. Colts - Manning = 2-11 I dont care who you put in place of Manning the results will remain the same. The Colts as a team suck, they need far more than a QB, realistically speaking how much longer can Manning carry them?
I saw Cassel play live that year. He was a good player that year and still is. Took him several games to get comfy in '08. As for Flynn, he also played very well at New England last year in his first career start. That team wasn't as good as this one. Somebody is going to pay him Kolb money in about two months.
That silly Matt Moore. lays a stinker in the 1st half and then takes complete control of the game with a 21 play TD drive. he did nothing if not cure my apathy this season
I wouldnt doubt that but I just hope its not us because I have a feeling we'll regret it for years to come. Culpepper vs Brees comes to memory, which still makes me sick to this day.
a crazy person might say that Moore actually showed more in this game than he has in other good performances in terms of working the short game and moving out of the pocket as some have dismissed him for those very reasons
He made that TD play work, and it was a proper way to finish a 12 minute drive. Think about that, Griese, Marino, Pennington, none of them accomplished what MMoore did today.
Sadly, I think we have all become complacent with middle of the road play. What game did we win this season that you didn't expect to win? I printed off a schedule before the season and picked which games I though we should win and questionable games. Am I the only one not impressed because we finished the season 6-10? To me its obvious we need an upgrade at QB. The worst we can do is have Moore compete with someone and if he happens to become the QB we all want then great! We shouldn't let the QB position slide because we beat KC, Redskins, Jets, Bills and Raiders.
WE also shouldn't overlook whether or not we have answers on the roster, the 0-7 start pretty much sank the season, Moore and Co rallied back to become the 3rd team in NFL history to win 6 gms after starting out that poorly. This jets team beat us like a drum in the first meeting, in this one I never had a minute where I'd thought we'd lose, that is progress.
I totally disagree with that statement.....so many points and scoring plays and possessions were totally left on the field that game.....it would have and should have been 21-0 Miami in the 1st half easily. No way, we were beat like a drum by the JETS....we beat ourselves and gave them points too, Yes, that I would agree with.
Again, I don't care if we were the first team in NFL history to do that. I don't care that we were a great 0-7 team and I am not impressed that we beat the Jets, Raiders, Bills, Redskins or KC. There is a distinct difference with what a team does with a great QB versus without one. Don't get me wrong. I like Matt Moore. He has grown on me and proved he is a great asset. I don't believe he is our answer though. We may not have too many choices during the off season but I think it should be our #1 priority. Again, the worst that happens is Moore proves me wrong. Great!
I personally think none of you would be happy with a quarterback that throws for less than 400 yards and 6 TD's a game. I really can't wait for the playoffs. I think some of you are going to be surprised when some of these quarterbacks end up facing some good defenses...but not even that is going to change some of your mindsets.
i have been critical of staying w moore and he didnt have his best game bbut may have done the most today to help himself. i still say draft a qb but moore played well and pulled out a close game
Funny you mention Kolb, because I was having this exact same conversation with a friend earlier today. I would be willing to bet that he does get Kolb type money; only difference is he actually deserves it compared to Kolb.
If you want legit progress next year we only have a couple options: 1.) Matt Flynn - You are going to have to pay a hell of a lot of money for a guy that COULD be a "system QB." If you are willing to spend that much money on a player that you only have a few games of tape on him go for it, but it is extremely risky. 2.) Peyton Manning - A long shot yes, but if the Colts take Luck like expected this leaves Manning in an awkward position. Should the Colts try to trade or even ultimately cut Manning do you take a run at a 36 year old QB that has just sat out an entire year and may still have medical issues. Also you will have to pay a ton for him (via a trade or in cash if he is release). PLUS, this would only be a short-term solution for one to two years. This is the type of moves that we are used to making which is why we never progress like typical teams. 3.) Andrew Luck - We aren't getting him, case closed. 4.) Robert Griffin III - We would have to trade the farm to get ahead of Washington (or even possibly Cleveland if they don't sign Flynn, like I expect). Even then you have to hope that he can adapt to the NFL and improve upon his question areas. Everyone keeps saying we need to do something, but its hard when those are are 4 choices... In fact, I think the best thing we could/should do is just go BPA with our first pick and see who is available in the 2nd or 3rd round. This QB draft is a pretty deep draft in my opinion and we could snag someone solid in the middle rounds. And trust me, it pains me saying that.... just look at the picture of Barkley under my name to see how bad I want a top QB.
I just don't see Moore being a long term starter in the NFL. He is a very good backup QB, but that is about it. Fans should not get too excited with how the Dolphins finished the season. The reality of the situation is that the Dolphins finished 6-10 and they played one of the easiest schedules in the entire NFL. In fact they only played three teams this season which ended the year with a record above 500. The Patriots, Texans, and the Giants. Every other team on their schedule finished 8-8 or worse. It should also be noted that they lost every game they played against those teams which ended the season with winning records.
And there, everyone, is the best post on the state of The Dolphins. Any club with anything going for them would have walked into the play offs with this schedule. We didn't. We now must be prepared to scarifice all to get the best available required QB. End of. PS Empty seats for the Jets game?????? Another reason.
