''When he was coaching the New York Jets a decade ago, Bill Parcells saw one of his players throwing up during a workout session and yelled, ``Throw up on your own time.''

It will be nice to get that early home field advantage back.

I liked the part about telling the trainers to tell the guy who passed out, when he woke up, he was cut. Something tells me Sparano has the same mentatlity and South Florida will welcome it with open arms. This organization has needed this kind of attitude and swagger especially after hitting rock bottom last year.

Very well put, this is what wins football games, not "Camp Med".

Great read Fins1, thanks for the link.

"throw up on your own time" HAHA I LOVE it!!! Thats hilarious. Im 100% with this, we need guys who are in good enough shape to be able to go out there and play at 100% for a full 60 minutes on game day. If you arent committed to being in shape and playing football for this team, its quite simple. You won't be a Miami Dolphin. In our hot/humid climate, having these guys in top shape will give us an advantage over the teams coming in who aren't used to playing in this heat/humidity. This used to be a huge advantage for us in the past, glad we're working towards getting that back.

Can you imagine Parcells telling the players: "We're going inside the bubble due to lightning, but enjoy the heat because I turned up the thermostat to 90 degrees for ya fellas, enjoy!" Nothing wrong with using the bubble, just turn off the AC in there.

A move like that would not surprise me one bit, nor would it upset me in the least. It will be nice to start enjoying the heat/humidity advantage late in September games that we used to enjoy before Camp Med.

    Parcells Offseason: "not So Voluntary"

Recent article about Parcells expectations for his teams gets into his Off Season program.
    http://www.miamiherald.com/616/story/529475.html

We had a thread going on this some time ago and we had so Dolfans talking about how the off season isn't important.

The article focus is that in our system, the off season isn't a soft program with low end results. It's a vital aspect of our success all season. Parcells understands what a strong off season can do for a team. Not only does it offer better conditioned athletes it also has a way of weeding out the Prima Dona's in Pro Sports. It can also be a great tool for building team unity in the off season that carries over into the regular season.

    NOT SO VOLUNTARY

"The idea of an offseason conditioning program is not unique. Every team in the NFL has one. But it is voluntary throughout the NFL.

    Not in Miami.

Just as it happened when Parcells was in Dallas and New England, with the Jets and the Giants, the definition of voluntary has changed.

''Now it's you-better-getyour-butt-in-there-if-youwant-to-be-on-this-team voluntary,'' former Dallas safety Darren Woodson once told Sports Illustrated about Parcells' program.

Parcells spent his early years coaching at West Point and the Air Force Academy. So it is no wonder he plans his offseason program to resemble a precise military operation."

    FOOTBALL IS LATER

''[Parcells] pushes minicamps back to the latter part of the offseason and focuses more on the strength and conditioning aspect of it, and it didn't intertwine football during that time,'' Payton said. ``He wanted [players] to feel like it was just strength and conditioning, and football would be later in May. It allows us, with injured guys, to get them healed up more before you get to the minicamp.''

Okay, I love old school toughness and the tough love theat creates it, but yelling at a player to throw up on their own time is just stupid and something an ********. would do.

I totally want Bill ripping guys who aren;t giving MAXIMAL effort... but if your body breaks down and starts heaving involuntarily, what are you supposed to do about it?

Anyways, I know it still sends a message that the gridiron is not a place for pansies, nor weakness, so you'd best MENTALLY toughen up too... AND bring your *** to work IN SHAPE.

It's like the Lombardi fear approach... it definitely works.

I guess I'm a hypocrite, because I love having Parcells get tough on our players, but when I think about him being MY boss... no frigging way would I put up with his b.s.

Anyone here think they'd love being yelled at daily by Parcells? I'mn sure a few people will say yes and mean it, more will say yes but really not mean it, and many will say no.

I think he's perfect for toughening up our Dolphins, but sometimes think he's just a miserable, unreasonable, immature a-hole.

I don't think you're getting the message. The message wasn't that the guy was having an off say and had to puke. Of course we aren''t there and don't know for sure, but it is alot more likey that the message intended was "You are supposed to be a Professional Athlete and you are not in prime shape for camp"...? Or "You knew we were going to work and had certain expectations for you in regards to being in Football shape"...and the player didn't get it done despite "being a Pro".

I don't think its about a power trip. Nor do I think it's about being an immature A-hole. I think it's about being a professional and showing up ready to play football. Not being ready hurts the team. None of our football people are going to put up with that for one minute from anyone on this roster.

Just like every family, a team has it's own language and terms that heard from someone outside the family makes no sense or seems harsh, but within the family are perfectly understood by its members.

A good laugh but you better have limits to them otherwise we have another Korey Stringer incident and I'm sure no one wants that.

He doesn't really mean "throw up on your own time" it's just his way of sending his toughness message. He's not going to kick someone off the team for throwing up during practice. It's just a theme he's running. It's bootcamp, have you seen bootcamp? That's how they treat you.

i don't see anything wrong with that. obviously parcells is not trying to be a dick... he's just pushing the players. there is tougher training in the military, and you can't go crying back off the field there. what parcells is doing is neither unprecedented or unwarranted. the fact that our team isn't used to a strict regimen is, if nothing else, a testament to how easy the former regimes were on the players.

This damn cat has cost me over 150 bucks in new wires since she got it. Thats not counting the air-conditioner wire he chewed through thats rendered the thing useless. No idea how much thats gonna cost. Now he's working on my computer power cord. I tell my girlfriend that we don't have a cat, we have a liability.
