Starting this thread for selfish reasons as I've been logging in to see head coaching search discussion and leaving disappointed nearly every time.

So simple thread. Post your guess as to who the next Dolphins head coach will be. Feel free to post your reasoning. I'm not going to venture a guess yet as I don't want the thread to turn into a discussion on why my guess is stupid.

my hope is Jon Gruden , Jeff Fisher , Les Miles , or Mike Shula

biggest fear : Brian Shottenhimer , Herm Edwards , Brad Childress.

I think Mike Shula could be a good head coach if he has good experiened assistant coaches around him.

i wonder if Andy Reid would be a good fit if he were to leave Philly ? i know he hasnt really addressed the wr's and runningbacks since he has been in philly but that is my opinion.

Jeff Fisher strikes me as having the least upside and being the most mediocre of the possibilities. But he's probably the safest...

    Hope:

Fisher, Sparano basically built a Fisher team without the heart, he can step in and turn it around Day 1
Gruden, I've cooled on him, but still interested
Mark Trestman, that would be great, dude is either Walsh or McDaniels
Billick: I think his time in the wilderness has been a good thing for him

    Fear
Any stinking Coordinator, 3 attempts, 3 failures, enough with that crap

    Platypus:

Eric Mangini, not sure, interested, but not sure...

I have no idea who the next head coach will be, but as long as Ireland is the GM, it will not be one of the big name coaches on the market. By keeping Ireland, Ross has basically ensured that he will be left with the option of taking a coordinator from another NFL team, which wants a head coaching job and will be willing to suffer with Ireland as his boss.

I suspect that the next head coach under Ireland will suffer the same fate Sparano did and that the Dolphins will be searching for a new head coach in a few years. As long as Ireland is responsible for selecting talent for this team, the Dolphins will remain a bottom feeder in the NFL.

Quiet guy, funny dude to, but I think Ross looks at the Parcells era staff as a sunk cost and is likely to want a clean slate.

Thanks KB, I could recall Childress's scouting report "..a rolling ball of butcher knives..." but could not recall his name the other day, Houston had some great drafts in the early/mid 80's.

Jake Long matches up with what was said about Bill Fralic back in the day as well.

NOT Fisher. **** that. Not Rob Ryan **** that harder. Cowher, Gruden, M. Shula. I would even take Schotty. His luck can't be bad forever. Can we get Vermeil out of retirement? Seriously though, it's hard to say. Just like the QB position, there are so many variables that can determine the success/failure of a coach.

the Baylor coach? I don't like any of the candidates (and you guys want Jeff "QB killer" Fisher). I'd much rather stay status quo with Todd Bowles...see what's available next year. One thing for sure is whoever comes in should be compatible with our current personnel.

Not crazy about Ryan either. Fisher just makes me say meh.
As long as Ireland is around we can forget about Cowher or Gruden.
My gut tells me it will come down to 3 guys.
    Mike Shula
    Brian Schottenheimer
    Brian Billick
Shula gets serious consideration simply because of his name.
Most people around here hate the idea of either Brian, but personally, I don't mind either.
Schotty has been handcuffed for 3 season by Mark Sanchez, that has to count for something.
Billick get hammered around here for reasons unknown to me.

I think the next HC is either Schotty or Billick. Which of course will make the snap factor around here rise to level not seen in a long time.
