The Rams GM has already said it would take about 3 1st rounders for them to trade the 1st overall pick.

It's doable but what if they want more? You can't start adding 2nd rounders.

I'd do it. If all goes according to plan, you have to figure they'll be low 1st round picks anyhow.

Billy Devaney may not have a job in two weeks, so this doesn't mean much.

That said, three 1s for Andrew Luck is worth it. You try to talk them down, maybe this year's 1st and 2nd round picks plus a 1st next year, or maybe a player instead of a 1. But ultimately, if you have to trade three 1st round picks for the best QB prospect since John Elway, you do it.

I have heard that teams value next year first round picks as much as they value this current year second round picks. Not saying it's true just for this particular year, but as a general rule. If a 2011 first round pick is worth an A and a 2011 second round pick is worth a B, then a 2012 first round pick is worth a B.

IF that's the starting price (three 1st round picks), I would try to knock it down to two first round picks and a second round pick. The starting price is usually higher than what they'd actually accept unless there is a bidding war.

It all comes down to three things, IMO. Whether the Rams lose the 49ers, the Colts beat the Jaguars, and if Jeff Ireland is willing to bet his career as a general manager on Andrew Luck. It's easy for us to say we'd do it, but we have nothing invested in the decision other than emotion.

Wasn't that based on speculation by Adam Schefter?

It's sad that the media is actually starting to set a starting price to the general public... the starting price to the general public doesn't matter though, I don't think it's going to be anything crazier than a few players, two first round picks, and two second round picks. I would bet that the pick goes for less, but that's the max I could see it going for. Just IMO.

So the only shot of the Rams getting the 1st overall pick are if the Rams lose to San Francisco and if the Colts beat the Jaguars. Those two games could determine our franchises future for the next decade. My fingers are going to be crossed all week.

I don't know anything about Howard Balzer, apparently he has a decent reputation though. Obviously no team will actually trade six first rounders, but still. The old draft value chart values the last 6 first round picks (so a combination of late first rounders) at 3790, and the 1st overall at 3000. That's before the wage scale was implemented.

Last I heard it would cost the franchises 1st round picks for the next 100 years and they would have to pay off America's debt to China. ;P

That's true according to Jimmy Johnson's (outdated) draft value chart. The Patriots have implemented the reverse valuation, and that's why they have so many draft picks to play with every year.

Jeff Ireland probably won't have a choice. If Luck is available then Ross will give up whatever's necessary. Ireland won't be making that decision; simultaneously, he won't be on the hook if it fails.

If the Rams get the #1 overall pick, its gonna be a bidding war between Miami, Cleveland, and the Redskins.

Miami - We'll likely have the lowest first rounder to trade out of the three teams. We have Big Jake to trade, but Cleveland also has Joe Thomas, so that doesn't really give us an edge. The only other player on our roster that could be seen as a real trade asset is Vontae Davis.

Cleveland - They'll likely have a top 5 pick, plus they've got Oakland's first rounder this year, which should be in the high teens. They also have Joe Thomas. Joe Hayden is a damn good young corner. Better than Vontae, probably.

Washington - Their first round pick will likely be right around where we pick. Laron Landry and Brian Orakpo are nice players, but not elite. I'm not sure they have more firepower than we do.

My Analysis: Cleveland has more firepower than we do. We have more firepower than Washington. I guess it just comes down to whether we want it more than Cleveland, and if Dan Snyder wants it more than Jeffrey Ross.

  18. If it takes that many 1st round picks, look for the Browns to be in the mix considering they have 2 1st rounders this year.

Luck will probably have some input on where he'd like to end up -meanig I have to believe Miami would look a LOT better than Cleveland. Ross is willing to spend big money to improve the team, even if the signings have not always worked out.

I'd be willing to consider putting Jake Long into a trade package, but I'd rather offer up Bess, Odrick, and a couple first round picks instead. The OL would be a shambles with Jake gone. No real need to get too excited until we see how the games play out in the final weekend. It does look very possible for the Colts to win and the Rams to lose though.

BTW, the 49ers will be playing to wrap up a bye week.

I wouldn't be surprised if we dangle Odrick if we resign Langford. Odrick is having a solid yr and this is his first full yr. Some may say he's having a better year than Langford.

How nice it would have been to have just 1 win right now and have the #1 pick, keep all of our draft picks, and draft Luck?

    sigh.

We need all 3 for a solid rotation though. I hope we can keep Langford, as well as Soliai.

I wouldn't be suprised to see langford not get near the contract he thought he was gonna get before the season started, if he has thoughts of 4/28 mill, he's gonna have to find that somewhere else.imo

That's why we have Starks and McDaniel.

There is a decided drop off in performance from Starks, Langford, and Odrick, to McDaniel or Merling.

I was looking at where we would pick last night.

There is a chance of us picking from the 10th pick just as well as picking from the 6th pick. I think we pick from 8th after next week shakes out. I don't see how we get from 8th to 1st. We get the second choice of QBs.

Pfft. You're not a real fan. A real fan would rather us trade 3 firsts and a couple roster players to move up. Don't you feel the pride of being a 5-11 football team?

And at that point I'd rather sign Matt Flynn over reaching for any of the QB's that would be available in the draft.

I thought they had Atlanta's 1st rounder from the trade for the pick used on Julio Jones.

I still wonder if the Luck family would follow in the mold of young Eli and refuse to play for a team that drafted him. Perhaps for a larger market.... a team that seems quite stong sans a good QB? its a nice thought

It is, but between now and draft day, so much still to work out and work through all the details to figure out what we have to offer, and what it will take, etc, etc, etc.
