Not kidding. Accept it: the last four rebuilding years weren't enough. We have some pieces. An offensive line that can give your QB time to throw AND get you three yards at the goal line is not among them. Of course we need a franchise QB. But Colombo and Carey will get your new franchise QB killed. Incognito can't pull. Aren't you sick and tired of having to settle for field goals? We don't have the draft position to get Luck, and Barkley is going back to school. No one else is can't miss. But there are can't miss linemen in this draft. Think DeCastro from Stanford. And when you mention Long, don't forget Pouncey. Get a great line, another great pass rusher and a receiver or DB. Plug the holes, then get a franchise QB in another draft. Until then Moore is serviceable.

Draft BPA OLB/WR. Address Oline through FA and/or later rounds. The whole damn oline can't be 1st rounders. Thats too much money tied up into one area of the team. We draft a 1st rd RT we would have 4 1st rounders on the oline. That can get costly as those contracts mature and second contracts arise. QB may be the end-all-be-all, but you can only do what you can do. Pick the best player to help your football team at the pick you got unless the 1st overall goes to auction.

Yep. The reason the Colts are laying down is because they read these forums.

Riiiiiight. The SFL people are the reason why the team won games. And on Sunday, a big fat man's gonna magically come down your chimney and give you gifts.

If you want explosiveness, you look at Baylor's Kendall Wright. However, where Miami will pick is probably too high for him. I'd also give strong consideration to Lamar Miller as well. I think that guy is going to be a terrific running back in the NFL.

Malcom Floyd has good size, but he is a long strider that isn't very explosive in his first few steps.

Personaly, I don't get all the hand wringing if we happen to get another lineman though. If we can get David DeCastro, we should be jumping for joy. That guy is the one guy in this draft that I'm 100% certain will be an All Pro player at his position.

Assuming RG3 comes out, I would rather see Ireland be agressive and trade up for him. We can find a RT later in the draft, Jerry has looked much better over the last couple of weeks and should be able to slide into the RG position. As far as safety goes, what does anyone think of moving Jimmy Wilson into the Free Safety spot? That leaves me looking for a TE.

Only the Dolphins would lose 4 gms by a combined 10 pts or less, and think "ah-hah! we know, we need more first rd pick Olinmen!"

But hey, he was the highest ranked player on our board!

I'd be mildly surprised if either Carey or Colombo returned, why? The OL has been dreadful at protecting the Qb and those two have a lot to do with it.

I'd stick Jerry at RT, maybe tryout Garner at RG, or Murtha at RT and Jerry at RG.

We cannot overpay for yet another offensive lineman, and return the same Wr corps, and expect better results.

We "need" our own Desean Jackson type of player imo, or the offense will pretty much remain the same, 20th or worse.

Carey is a FA after this year, and I'm not sure if Colombo is a 1st rounder, but I doubt he'll be back anyway.

Aside from Long and I guess Pouncey, there will be very little money tied up int he OL.

How many games would we have won, Padre, if the opportunities inside the 10 had been touchdowns and not field goals? Our sucky line has to be fixed, and not by plugging in the guys who haven"t been able to crack the starting lineup. Can't build a house without a foundation. Need to get guys who can physically beat up the guys across from them and push them off the line. That's football at its most elemental. It makes everything else easier.

Spending your top pick on a receiver is the biggest gamble in the NFL. Can't tell if they have the physical tools to transition success in college to the next level. Look at Ted freaking Ginn, Freddie Mitchell, David Terrell, Charles Rogers. Give me DeCastro, get a stud right tackle in free agency, and do what you want with the rest of the draft.

WELL WHY CANT WE USE free agency for another olineman or a late round draft pick on a olineman we need a freakin tight end or qb with our fist pick. I am getting rather sick or using our first rd picks on olinemen .

instead of pretending we are good on offense lets get to where we are great .

use the first two picks on a wr , te, qb or a defensive end use the third rd pick and 4th rd pick for a olineman then use the later picks for defensive backs.

Exactly, but you have to have them, and they require high value resources to acquire them, they score TD's, which is the root of the problem.

OL having "planettheory" members is the failed legacy of Parcells time in Miami.

Did we really need John Jerry over 2 All pro caliber Te's? Really?

Did we really HAVE to trade Ginn for a 5th rd pick to "be fair to him"?

Now if DiCastro can score 12-15 Td's, then by all means add him, that will remove the need for those pesky Field Goals.

Kendall Wright is the wide receiver from baylor, i've been pimpin him for months, you should pay more attention sir..He's special Pod, for a small receiver he can do big things {pun intended}..

Maybe your thinking of Dwayne allen from Clemson..He's the other guy i've been kookoo for...Tight end.

Either player would be perfect for this team..both players will be big time at the next level.

Or you can go explosive for defense and get Tank Carder..Explosive linebacker, exactly what we need..

Thanks Deej, I've become something of a Draft Agnostic nowadays, once it dawned on me how often these guys never do much I just sort of yawned at it all.

I prefer to keep a look out on the guys who were hyped up, but did not play for one reason or another like Brandon Tate or Aaron Maybin

That Allen kid sounds special though, my worry is the OP is right, Ireland will default to type, take an OL and compare them to Richmond Webb.

Phooey I say, to another OL pick in the 1st round? .

That’s crazy talk. I think the OL will be one of the strengths of the team next year. You already have Long, Incognito and Pouncey as starters and Murtha, Garner and Jerry to pick up the other 2 spots.

If they can’t get a QB, I want Tyrann Mathieu. He’s both an elite punt returner and cover guy.

Think about it, him and Davis at the corners, (Alias) Smith and Jones on the backend with Wilson, Carroll and Clemons rounding out the group.

    That's a secondary.

Forgot to mention that no way Kendall wright lasts to the top of the 2nd, he would be a player that we would have to jump back in to the first if we want him..

Months ago people weren't saying that but the kid is climbing, Ithink he's top 20 all day in this particular draft that lacks depth in dynamic players, same thing with Dwayne allen..

So I really didn't answer your question, lets say were #7 in the 2nd round..If Allen is off the board which I think he will be, than I think you have to look at the available prospects that could take over the #2 receiver role 2maro...If that player is not there, than for my money, Tank is the man at that spot..

If I were running the draft board Deej, I'd look at a Ben Jones if the explosive guys I liked were off of the board.

I'd see it as killing 2 birds with one move, Pouncey to LG, Richie to RG, Jones in at Center, Jerry/Garner/Murtha at RT.

Failing that, take Molk from MI in rd #4, and then go Dwight Jones or Toon jr at #40, maybe Adams from Arkansas at #40.

We may very well be drafting an OT the way this season is playing out. Maybe Jon Martin (Stanford) or Riley Reiff (Iowa) with the 8th pick?

  34. MrClean

    MrClean Inglourious Basterd Club Member

I kind of like that idea too. While Pouncey would always be a solid center for us, he could be All Pro at LG, IMO. Jones at C and move Pouncey would be a good Plan B to just drafting DeCastro for LG.
