This has nothing to do with Matt Moore per se, though it can if one thinks MMoore has deleted Chad Henne's future in Miami. Is the Henne Era Done in Miami? He is the first young Qb the franchise gave a real shot to develop, who flat out did not develop, in the past: -Bob Griese led a poor Dolphins team before turning into a HoF Qb -David Woodley led us to a SB -Dan Marino we all know about Chad Henne is the first Qb who has been Drafted by the Dolphins given significant starts, who did not have much success in his first 3 yrs Done?
The Henne era ended after last season, when the front office decided that Henne wasn't the guy and began trying to pry Carson Palmer away from the Bengals.
A fair question though VO? To me, after literal yrs discussing him, his prospects, his tatoos, his targets, just the whole bit, it would be interesting to see what clear Dolphin Die Hards have to say about it, where they are at. For myself, I hate that he did not show more, really do.
Is he done in MIA .... likely .... is that a mistake ... also very likely .... but it is what it is ... He will not have a problem getting another shot on another team. If I were Rex Ryan - I'd surely be giving him a call.
We all wish he could have been the next big thing. Let's cut our losses here. He is not going to be anything great, or even above average. No need to waste any more time and resources on Henne. He is what he is, a mediocre QB who won't get you anywhere.
First you have to show something to be done, Henne, IMO and for me, showed me nothing other then he was a decent backup QB. Wish him luck and all that stuff and well, thats it.
Well, this is a stretch, but here is one path he can return: -Ross likes him -Ireland likes him cause he's cheap, also likes Moore -Fisher is hired, sees a young Kerry Collins in him and decides he can live with him -this lottery ticket paysoff, I buy the Dolphins kick Fisher and Ireland in the ball sack before firing both of them.
I really hoped he would be the QB of the future and we saw glimpses of what he could be over the past few years. Unfortunately he only has a few excellent games and hasnt been productive in crunch time. I think he might be an above average QB somewhere else but his time is done here. Its too bad he doesnt consistently play like he did in the Jets game in 09.
To me, I'm 90% d-o-n-e with Chad Henne, my one caveat is I'm willing to wait and see what the New HC's approach is, if he likes Henne then I could live with it.
No he is not my favorite player but yes i would like to see him come back, probably as a backup to RGIII or whoever we'll draft to be our new franchise QB, no it will and should not be Matt Moore!
Personally, i would have loved to see Chad finish the season, then make judgement. Unfortunately injury prevented this, and I believe the front office moves in a different direction. Hopefully Chad gets a fresh start with a new team, because he did show some promise with the new offense.
There is no reason for us to bring Henne back and create any sort of unwanted locker room atmosphere or potential animosity, especially with a player already under contract who is providing similar (if not better) results. There is also little reason for Chad to come back (here as opposed to somewhere new) beyond him potentially really liking his teammates. He is at worst a good back up qb and should have plenty of opportunities at a fresh start out there. I like Henne a lot, but there's just little reason for him to be back.
Agree. But I still blame Henning and Lee for improper development. The Pat White fiasco.... The benching last season as a scapegoat. Yeah Henne will be gone. Let's hope he doesn't get a shot for the enemy and turn into Brees.
IDK Killah, to me, we have no idea what the new HC will do, or what approach he takes at Qb. I don't feel bad for the dude because he will wind up with a MMoore sized contract, 2.5 millie per yr, that is what backups make. I'm just thinking of Kerry Collins whom his career numbers track with, who was run out of Carolina due to booze issues, and went on to play 14 more yrs with pretty good results, Fisher is no dummy, if hired he may see the same thing, if he does I have to go with Coach so to speak.
I have no Henne Jersey but if i had i wouldn't bury or w/e and yes i still have that Chambers jersey and wouldn't do that neither, he was my favorite Dolphin!
Interesting thread Pod but not a chance Henne comes back here. South Florida would burn to the ground. Seriously It's over. The injury was unfortunate and he did get better before it with Daboll. I was always in his corner and if for some freak chance he comes back I'll still be. I just don't see it happening.
Haha, ok ok u got me but i never wear Lederhosen and i ofc i know the meaning... but we better stop our personal stuff in here before our posts will get removed from a mod!
Eh, Coaches a funny breed Killah, for example the level of animosity towards Henne pales in comparison to what Alex Smith went through in SF.
Yeah me too and i really think he dip performed well improved from last year in the few games he played and imo he would only gotten better and more confident in this offensive scheme but that's over now and yes it's time to move on...
I could see: MN Denver Oakland Tampa Jax Atlanta NYG All legitimately interested in Henne as their backup, he's young, has a long track record, meets the 60% completion rate criteria, but lacks the TD to Int ratio, which makes him the "can win you 4 games and then lose you 4 games" model of a good backup Qb.
Remember the staring down of receivers? The holding on to the ball too long? The inability to go through a progression? The inability to throw a touch pass? The overthrows? The underthrows? The picks? The inability to deliver in the clutch? Goodbye, Chad. Thanks for the memories. Not.
Matt Moore is our starting quarterback heading into next training camp. Chad Henne, while I rooted my heart out for ye, is history.
Just do to fan base and a coach fired who was considered tied to him, Henne won't be given a chance. I won't be surprised to see him succeed with another franchise if given the chance. Funny how the national, objective media all thought Henne improved from last year, but thought Marshall's drops killed him. Teammates raved about him. Even Marino gave him a vote of confidence. Exactly what I saw on the field this year. Only a bias fan base that had their minds made up heading into this season thought the problem was Henne. Even blamed him in a 3,000 page thread when a pass bounced off Fasano's shoulder pad during the first pass (or second?) during the first preseason game......Yet, we see Marshall continues to drop TD passes resulting in FGs with Moore passing the ball. There is a reason Henne was #9 in TQBR when he got injured. Also interesting how a fan base supports Moore who has only led Miami to victories against Buffalo twice who are on a 7 game losing streak, Washington in the middle of a 6 game losing streak, KC during a 4 game losing streak, and Oakland who traveled 3,000 miles and is on a 3 game losing streak and counting. All of these teams have a combined record of 28-42 and defenses ranked 16th, 22nd, 27th, 27th and 29th in ppg. When Moore went against solid defenses all we see are FGs for the most part (NYJ = 2 FGs, Dallas = 1 TD and 4 FGs). Reminds me of 2008 when Pennington led Miami to 11-5 (glad he did) but the record had mostly to do with the schedule...playing against NFC West, implementing the wildcat against teams not ready to defend it, and barely winning home games against weak west coast teams. Fans seem to forget Penny started out 0-3 the next season before getting injured (after getting owned by Baltimore in the playoffs). Even the OP presented a bias post. Not giving an option for - played well this year before getting injured deserves another chance. And then takes a shot at him. Will Henne be given another shot at Miami? Probably not. Is he better than Moore? Absolutely. Is there another option out there that is better?
I love that you still support Henne, but will point out that some of your case against Moore is offbase: -KC was on a 3 gm win streak when we travaled to arrowhead and beat them -Oakland was on a 3 gm win streak when we beat them -Washington was the 13th or 14th ranked D when we played them -Dallas was one spot ahead of Washington's D when we played them MMoore is highly rated in TQBR and QBR as well, and his 12 td to 6 int ratio is better then anything Henne did in the last 2 yrs.
So....Henne is pretty much gone in a majority of the boards opinion? I guess we can throw him on the University of Michigan heap of mediocre NFL QBs when he is officially done EDIT:Laugh if you want at this, buy why not give a guy like Tony Pike a try? From what I saw in his college days, he is tough as nails, fairly mobile, has decent field vision, and an above average arm.
I thought Henne was improved under Daboll too. For him, the injury couldn't have come at a worse time. I wouldn't mind if he came back at a minimum level contract. He could compete for one of 3 roster spots with Moore, Devlin and the rookie we draft in the 1st round. You could do a lot worse than having Henne as your 2nd or 3rd stringer.
It was thrown behind him..... It was late. Also remember the day Matt Moore was signed. Lots of CTPF that day from most here.
since i dont see us drafting a qb i see him being offered a cheap contract and letting him and moore battle it out next year
