I care just as much what Kooch has to say about the current team, as I care what anyone here has to say about it.
Great accomplishments don't just disappear after a few years. Did it ever occur to you that he might have been teasing the Pats fans about the Pats' 07 season? You don't think it's relevant that one of our biggest rivals and their fans thought they were about to duplicate our great achievement and then choked in the big game? That was only four years ago. I suppose he should have just said, "Yeah we're a joke since we haven't done much against you in the past few seasons..." hung his head in shame, and walked away. For all you know the Pats fan started giving him ****, rather than him just walking around beating his chest about 1972. I don't know what fan 'only' associates the Dolphins with the 72 season.
Actually, not stuck in the past. We actually saw our team achieve excellence and then perfection right before out eyes. I won't attempt to describe in words what watching that machine (only way to describe it) win week in, week out did to this city. That is past. What is relevant today is that we want to see excellence again, achieved with modern personnel, rules and stategies, as everyone who is a fan does. The only difference between you youngsters and us geezers is that we've seen it before. Your Dolphins fan in the argument should just have spotted the Pats fan his extra two Super Bowl wins and counted division championships and AFC championships after the AFL-NFL merger. He should then have advised the Pats fan that they may be on top now, but things change and time gives perspective. Sort of like wait till next year, I know, but it's the only argument we have, now that they are indisputably better than we are. Hey, even the Detroit Lions, the paradigm of doormats, are good now.
As as true, long time Fins fan, as divided as I would be, I'd have to root for....a tie....that's the only solution to that dilemma....
Don't ya kind of think that in the 25 yrs or so he's spent on this earth before you were born, that he may have gotten a pretty big head start?
So it is written, So it shall be!!!!!! congrats '72 squad, your deserved and earned place of honor remains!!!!! Now for the those wishing and hoping oneday modern day Dolphins teams will give you something like that to root for....you have the Ceiling, stop setting and settling for the floor and *****ing about the past! Get your act in gear modern franchise and step it up to live up to the expectations of your elders. Dont cry with all this crap about a me, me, me, attitude and instant gratification without appreciation for true success! love it.
Two different things here, Aqua. The fan base [should] show a lot of pride in our team doing something the NO other team has been able to duplicate in the Super Bowl era. To run the table, undefeated from the first game of the season to the Super Bowl. That's an accomplishment worthy of respect from all the fanbase, particularly those of us who were there. The jests fanbase can hang their hats on a SB victory in '69 and that's an accomplishment, but not nearly the same scope as going undefeated. These are two completely different accomplishments...
Yep but he still said, "you have to understand what your watching"!!! Like he does and I maybe I don't... lmao
How`bout dem Chiefs ??? Say what you want but I get great gratification in knowing the record holds,at least for another year. Congrats to the `72 Dolphins and those of us that appreciate the accomplishment.
While the undefeated season is great a feat (the greatest in NFL history) and should be honored and remembered, I think what the younger generation is more concerned with is the absolute abomination this franchise has been over the better part of the last decade.
The younger generation is no more concerned about how the team is now than any Dolphins fan. The undefeated season has nothing to do with whats happening now.
As is every self respecting Dolphins fan. Aqua has been doing some pretty severe backpedaling from his original comment which trashed the '72 team. I think he's caught enough grief for it though, and we should all just celebrate a Dolphins victory today and the fact that the perfect season has been preserved for another year.
I'm sorry but who the hell are you two to decide who is a fan or not? I love this team and I stick by what I said. I am tired of hearing about this record year in and year out while the current team churns out crap performance after crap performance. All it does is remind me how sad this franchise is. All it does is remind me of this team's constant failures since the 70s. All it does is remind me that Shula couldnt get arguably the best QB ever a team so he could have multiple rings. Hell I barely remember Marino playing, I only saw him play live once(great game BTW) and my most vivid memories are of him are when he was slowing down.
I didn't know that Phins "fans" would want the Jets to win a Superbowl. See I can play the "you aren't a real fan" card, too.
I don't decide anything. I don't think you're not a Dolphins fan or any less a fan than anyone else. I just think you and others have a really ****ty attitude about this franchise's storied history. It's fine that you stand by what you said. My "Ha Ha" also stands.
You should be ashamed of yourself.......... period I'm amazed at how some of you younger fans have no appreciation for this team's past glory. The bottom line is that this team could go the next 50 years without a SB appearance. Not holding on to it's accomplishments is extremely short sighted. I was at 5 home games during the undefeated season and believe me, there's nothing in sports like being the only undefeated team in history. Nothing......
You're pissed that the team has sucked the vast majority of the time you've watched it. You don't want to hear about the old stuff because you yourself haven't witnessed anything similar for this franchise. Misery loves company. You want people to forget the past and come wallow with you in your misery full time. So what is really pathetic here? You have a petty and juvenile attitude about that team and that record. If you care for the Dolphins franchise as much as you always say you do it is completely beyond me why you continuously want to trash and diminish that franchise's biggest achievement. Yes it was in the past. Yes it sucks nothing like that is happening now. Taking a dump on the 72 Dolphins does nothing to change that. I never knew there was an expiration date on great accomplishments.
It would still be mentioned every time a team in the NFL got past 10-0. The difference would be that that team might occasionally be a new Dolphins team. Is it sad we haven't had much to hang our hat on in our entire lifetime? Yes. But the 72 team is still something to be proud of. My advice is to do what I do and direct your anger at the right people like Bill Parcells, Nick Saban, etc... I'm not going to go start randomly bragging about something that happened in the 70s [unless that era of football is brought up] but I'm still proud of that team as a Dolphins fan. I think that's all anyone is saying. It's not their fault that our franchise has been lost and it's not their fault the media wants to go to them every time a team goes 10-0 or whatever. There's nothing wrong with them being proud of their historic accomplishment either.
