I live in Nashville, so I have heard a lot about Jeff Fisher over the years. I know him probably as well as any NFL fan, and I can tell you the guy is a 'real' leader like Shula was/is. His guys not only like him, they respect him. Fisher is also a no-nonsense head coach. He won't do silly motivational campaigns about feeding a wolf or hanging up lobster traps in the locker room. He's honest and genuine with his team. He doesn't try and 'trick' them into being motivated. He's a great game manger, isn't afraid to take risks, isn't a jerk that rubs anyone the wrong way, and is respectful of other teams and players.

From what I gather, the two reasons Fisher left the Titans were:

    1) Bud Adams forced the team to select Vince Young. Fisher tried his best to coach him up, but Young is/was an idiot with awful technique. Adams could not admit how wrong he was, and probably still can't.

    2) Bud Adams always held a strict anti-nepotism policy. Fisher respected this policy, until Adams hired his own grandson in the front office. Fisher felt this was hypocritical... do as I say, not as I do. So, since Fisher 'technically' had it in his contract to hire anyone he wanted, he brought in his own son.

People need to understand the owner we're talking about here. Adams is a guy who was fined by the NFL for flipping off opposing fans from his visitors luxury box. The guy is a low-class bonehead. Believe me when I say that Fisher and his staff were hamstrung by him. Hopefully Ross wouldn't do the same.

Jeff Fisher, IMHO, when he returns, will be one of the best coaches in the league. He was about one yard from winning a Superbowl. He still wants it.

He also had an 11-7 record vs. Cowher's Steelers.

They also had a special teams unit for the ages. Remember Jermaine Lewis? That group was nearly as good as the defense.

The year after they won the Super Bowl, he went out and got Elvis Grbac, fresh off a 4000-yard, 28-TD season. They made the playoffs, but it didn't go great for him and Elvis left the building after the season. Forever.

I guess I just can't get over an offensive 'genius' running a team for a decade and not once having a Top 10 offense.

He did have a helluva staff though. Lots of really good coaches under him.

I dunno man. Jeff Fisher is 54 years old. Shula was out of the game at 65.

There are similarities though. Definitely a respectable guy. The only 'blip' I can think of is when he put on that #18 jersey at the Dungy event and made that comment, which was really much ado about nothing IMO.

He's certainly connected around the league and no doubt could put together a solid coaching staff.

I don't know about that man. It didn't stop Bill Parcells from setting up shop, or Mike Tomlin and Rex Ryan from interviewing here last time around. Or Mike Nolan from jumping aboard last season.

If there's truly damage, it will have been done in 2010-2011 IMO. From the Ireland fiascos to the Harbaugh stuff. THAT'S what would kill us.

Quite possible this franchise is viewed as a clown car. We'll find out soon enough.

Of all the candidates, Fisher matches that quote the best. Although Shula's Baltimore record far exceeds Fisher's at Tennessee. Regular season: 71–23–4 .755 to 142-120 .542.

I've been saying the same, you know what your gonna get, so it comes down to the personnel dept..

At this point, I would like Fisher because the other 2 do nothing but talk about how they don't want to be a coach.

Larry, I respect your opinion, and I believe you are acccurate in your assessment of this coach.

Little story, couple years ago I was watching the titans against the colts in Youngs first year....This is what I said out loud..''Jesus Christ does that team execute at a high level''...
It was about how they played as a team, all of their assignments seemed to be in rhythm, no penalties, serious toughness, just executed every play where you could tangibly see it in action..They were undermanned from a talent perspective, but were so very well coached it wasn't even funny..

Nothing wrong with 11 years of good coaching.. especially considering the average lifespan of a Dolphins head coach over the past 16 years. If Ireland does a good job I see no reason why Fisher couldn't have success. He recently coached a 13-3 team that had Kerry Collins as its quarterback. I also see posts speculating that Fisher wants to go out west because he's from that area. Is that based off of anything besides pure speculation? I was reading an article the other day that mentioned that he still lives in Nashville. If he's dying to go west wouldn't he have done that considering he's unemployed?

Context Muck, Wayne H threw 25 millie at Parcells, Saban ran out of town, Cameron was run out of town on a rail.

Rexxy and Tomlin were wet behind the yrs Coordinators, and it was 07, not 2012, things have not really gotten better.

It is ominous to me that Mike Nolan wanted to leave and we blocked him, he's been around the block, he knew the score.

As for Ireland, disagree, I'd bet that 99% of personnel men would ask the same thing.

Larry is spot on. I live in Middle TN and watch every Titans game. Fisher would be a very good pickup IMO. His teams execute well and play with a nasty attitude.

Pure spec from what I know. Certainly makes sense. Born and raised in SoCal, went to USC. San Diego's still got a QB.

Maybe he ain't 'dying' to go, but still be his top choice though?

11 years is an eternity. :)

And Rex and Tomlin both had immediate success. Tomlin in '07, Rex in '08. And both were more impressive interviews than the guys we actually hired. **OT: How ****ed up is that? Is it really that shocking we're here? :(

My point was that the last two years would have done the damage. Mike Nolan still came to Miami in early 2010 without a gun to his head. ;)

I've always felt the Ireland-Dez stuff was blown way out of proportion. We weren't the only ones leery of that player.

Exactly. That is what a Jeff Fisher coached football team is like. They guy has my respect. That's what the Phins would be like under him, every game. His guys are always ready to play, they play hard, and they rarely beat themselves (when they don't have Vince Young under center).

The word in Nashville is Fisher is open to anything, but a lot of people like to attach him to San Diego because he was a USC player. If Turner gets fired, that's a distinct possibility. He also played under Ditka and coached under Buddy Ryan in Chicago, so he's been mentioned as a candidate there if that job ever came available.

Little bit of trivia... Fisher played in the NFL as a DB and return specialist for the Chicago Bears. His career was ended when he suffered a broken leg on a punt return. On that play he was hit by a Philadelphia Eagles player named... Bill Cowher.

I am fearful that the game will whizz right by Cowher.
